Big Brother 18 Episode 21

For some unknown reason, Paul was desperately targeting Bridgette, but his ally Paulie wanted to get rid of Da’Vonne instead. After Paulie won the power of veto in Big Brother 18 Episode 20, Da’Vonne joined Bridgette on the block.

We’ll get an episode of discussion about how maybe Bridgette will go home, but there is not a mathematical path forward for Da’Vonne. The guys have set this plan in motion, and Nicole knows that Da’Vonne is trying to get rid of her. Paulie, Victor, Nicole, and Corey is 4, which means a tie at worst, to be broken by the HOH Paul.

James lets the cat out of the bag. He would nominate Bridgette and Victor. The same Bridgette who can only still be in the house if Da’Vonne is gone. Oops.

Votes
Paulie: Da’Vonne
Zakiyah: Bridgette
Nicole: Da’Vonne
Michelle: Bridgette
Victor: Da’Vonne
Corey: Da’Vonne
James: Da’Vonne
Natalie: Da’Vonne

By a vote of 6-2, Da’Vonne has been evicted from the Big Brother house. She lasted a lot longer than she did last time, but all the pot stirring created a target. Before leaving, Da’Vonne warns Victor that he will be the next target.

The HOH competition will have them hanging around all night. They have to hold on to ropes with their feet resting on discs while they go around in circles.

Big Brother 18 Episode 20

After Paul won HOH in Big Brother 18 Episode 19, he got the weird idea in his head that he just had to get rid of Frank’s little Cabbage Patch girl Bridgette, followed by the idea that he had to nominate his buddy Paulie.

Paulie’s much less stupid plan is to get rid of Da’Vonne instead. Da’Vonne immediately goes to work trying to get Nicole on the block.

Zakiyah feels Paulie starting to pull away as he finds her to be smothering. This could easily be the sort of thing that causes a downward spiral that sends the pawn home, especially with how divided the genders are, and it would also at least put her name into the hat of potential replacement nominees.

Paul selects Corey at random to participate in the power of veto competition. Paulie selects Victor (houseguest’s choice). Bridgette selects Natalie at random. None of these people should be particularly difficult to convince to create a scenario in which Da’Vonne goes on the block.

The veto competition requires them to hold down buttons with their hands until they see the words ready, set, and then go on the screen, then they run across the yard to press a button. Corey moves on the word no instead of go and is eliminated first. Bridgette and Natalie are both pretty slow, but Bridgette is eliminated in the second round. Natalie unsurprisingly is the next one out. Paul is eliminated in the fourth round. Paulie beats Victor to win the power of veto.

The plan is falling into place, and Da’Vonne proves why, launching back into attempts to get Nicole nominated alongside Bridgette.

Zakiyah warns Paulie that Paul could win this game. He was already unsure about her, and that was a big mistake.

This is all just drama. Da’Vonne’s still the target, no matter how many people open their big mouths or if she throws person after person under the bus.

Veto Ceremony
Paulie removes himself from the block.
Da’Vonne is the replacement nominee.

Big Brother Season 19 to Be Online Only

Right after Big Brother’s 18th season finishes, CBS plans to do it all over again in the fall. Variety reports that the next season of Big Brother will be online only and air on CBS All Access, the company’s online streaming service.

All Access costs $5.99 per month and lets people watch archived and live episodes of CBS shows like CSI and probably CSI: Sheboygan and whatever else is on CBS other than reality TV shows. It is also where the current Big Brother live feeds are broadcast at a much better price than before CBS brought that in house.

This marks the first time Big Brother will air outside the regular summer schedule since season 9 when writers were striking. That show aired from February-April 2008 because a different set of writers script the actions of these casts.

Having an extra season of Big Brother online makes sense. It’s dirt cheap to produce, and the revenue from the online feeds by itself more than makes up for the cost. The people who are subscribing now just for that have an excuse to stick around at least for another few months. This and similar efforts to produce original programming might actually make it seem worth subscribing to people who otherwise consider paying for a single network’s shows to be a waste.

The show will return to CBS on TV next summer like it always has.

Big Brother 18 Episode 19

Frank was predictably voted out of the house in Big Brother 18 Episode 18.

The houseguests are practicing rolling balls down a beam for the HOH competition. Paulie doesn’t care if he wins and is the first to roll his ball badly, a bad strategy considering that a roll this bad is likely to lead to a punishment. Natalie and Corey both make perfect practice shots before bombing out on their real rolls.

Paulie: 6
Paul: 21
Bridgette: 10
Natalie: 2
Corey: 0
Nicole: 19
Zakiyah: 0
Michelle: 16
Da’Vonne: 19

Paul wins HOH with the highest possible score. The four lowest scorers are have nots for the week.

Bridgette is an easy target, but she is hardly threatening now that she’s all alone. Paul wants to use Victor as a pawn, the guy who already got voted out once.

Paulie proposes getting rid of Da’Vonne instead.

Paul opens his pawn plan to a wider audience. One after another, they come up with an excuse why they should not be the pawn. Nicole reluctantly agrees. She doesn’t exactly meet his criteria for a strong competition threat, but she’s the only one who hasn’t said no.

Paulie wants to be Paul’s twin. He’s made some really unfortunate choices with his hair, is walking around with a lot more clothing, and is using the same lingo. I don’t suspect this is what Big Brother wanted when they cast him.

Natalie is the winner of the very first America’s care package. She must open it in front of everybody. Her reward gets her out of her current predicament as a have not because she receives a never not pass. Nice but harmless and not relatively helpful.

Nicole felt pressured into volunteering as a pawn, but she doesn’t really want to do it. Paulie offers to be the pawn.

Nominations
Bridgette
Paulie

Da’Vonne doesn’t get why Nicole is not on the block despite having volunteered. I’m sure Da’Vonne would have liked to have an alternate person like Nicole to get rid of instead.

Big Brother 18 Episode 18

Despite a lot of seemingly pointless drama (welcome to Big Brother), nothing really happened in Big Brother 18 Episode 17, leaving Frank on the block against Bridgette.

The houseguests get a message on the TV screen and start searching the house for the secret. Paul solves the clues, so basically nobody is happy. He is granted a 1 in 12 chance of returning to the house after he is evicted. Not very good odds, but at least it’s something. He feels like he can keep this a secret and prevent Frank and Bridgette from entering, but that seems highly unlikely.

Victor is pretty sure that Paul’s bad story to hide what happened is a lie, and he cracks the code as well. The rest of the house follows on his heels. Perhaps he should have spent a little more time locked in the secret room to come up with a good story.

Julie tells us that the last envelope will be opened on August 18, so that should probably be 4 or 5 chances for someone to return.

Frank gives what amounts to a farewell speech before the vote. He knows like everybody else that he’s going home, leaving Bridgette ironically to seek revenge against Michelle, the one other person who would have wanted to keep him.

Votes
Da’Vonne: Frank
Paul: Frank
Paulie: Frank
Nicole: Frank
Victor: Frank
Michelle: Frank
Zakiyah: Frank
Corey: Frank
Natalie: Frank

By a vote of 9-0, Frank has been evicted from the Big Brother house. His envelope does not contain a ticket back into the house. He realizes that he has a big mouth and trusted too many people in his stupidly big alliance.

In the HOH competition, they will have to roll balls down a beam. They can practice as many times as they want with a practice ball, but only the red colored ball counts. They’re going to keep practicing for a while. They’re so bored in that house they may as well keep going all night.

The next twist is announced, America’s Care Package, which will allow for America to vote for a player to receive an advantage. Stupid popularity contest voting advantages. This week’s vote is for a never not pass, a welcome but modest thing to have. Future much better powers include the ability to eliminate two eviction votes, safety for a week, co-HOH, and $5k to bribe someone else.

Big Brother 18 Episode 17

James made a deal with Bridgette to keep her and Frank safe in Big Brother 18 Episode 16 if she let him win HOH. Then he nominated them anyway.

Da’Vonne, Zakiyah, Paul, and Nicole proceed to dance following the nominations.

James selects Michelle at random to participate in the veto competition. Bridgette picks Da’Vonne. Frank chooses Nicole. Those picks are about the worst possible for Frank and Bridgette, but aside from maybe Natalie they really don’t have any support.

This is the Otev challenge, which is the last one Frank played in before being eliminated in season 14. Having already lied, James has no interest in making any more decisions and throws the first round. Michelle literally falls on her face but still beats Da’Vonne in the second round. Frank narrowly beats Nicole in the third round. Michelle comes in ahead of Frank in the next round. With an obnoxiously loud cheering section rooting against her, Bridgette loses to Michelle, who wins the power of veto.

Logic would suggest that nothing is going to happen here because everybody is rooting against either Frank or Bridgette. Unlike the anti-Frank camp, though, Michelle has a personal problem with Bridgette. It seems she’s bitter that Frank chose Bridgette over her. Michelle’s offer to Frank is that she will use it if he throws Bridgette under the bus.

Then Paul flips out at Frank and accuses him of trying to get him nominated. If people needed a reason to nominate Paul, he is providing them with one. Still, he’s a lot less objectionable than Da’Vonne.

James calls a house meeting to discuss the veto. Not at all awkward.

Bridgette confronts Michelle about treating her how she does, and she admits to being jealous.

Veto Ceremony
Veto is not used.

As much as she wants to use the veto, Michelle doesn’t have much choice. The house wants Frank gone, so she has to play along, becoming the primary target for the person who is most likely to stay in the process.

Big Brother 18 Episode 16

In a special night for one player to battle back, Victor beat the other first evictees in Big Brother 18 Episode 15 and won the opportunity to return to the house.

The question is whether Victor is an easy vote to just send packing again, or if he’s a number to be used in this house that is split down the middle.

Paul is convinced that Victor will listen to him more than anybody else, but both Bronte and Tiffany were steering him toward Frank.

The HOH competition is an endurance competition requiring them to keep their hands raised while stepping over a rope. Paul is the first one eliminated. Nicole is the next to fall at 1 hour and 19 minutes. Zakiyah is eliminated third, followed by Michelle. About an hour later, Corey drops. People are passing a water bottle around, and Victor, who’s way on the other side, asks for it to be tossed to him. James isn’t sure that’s a good idea, but Victor insists, eliminating himself in the process. Frank starts goofing around and also eliminates himself. Natalie drops just after the 4 hour mark.

James, Da’Vonne, and Bridgette are still standing after 6 hours. Da’Vonne’s standing on the far end away from everybody else, and Frank tries to make a deal with her. The people who are left standing sort of trust James, but neither Bridgette nor Da’Vonne really trust each other. Frank throws Nicole under the bus in the process, and eventually Bridgette and Da’Vonne agree to throw it to James.

James did make a deal to keep both Bridgette and Frank safe, and Natalie doesn’t want to see her fellow Spy Girl be eliminated. This deal goes against what everybody else in the house wants, though.

Nominations
Bridgette
Frank

Harsh, but they probably should have seen it coming instead of throwing a competition they desperately needed to win. Of course Frank is the target, and Bridgette is just guilty by association.

Big Brother 18 Episode 15

Tiffany became the last of the first five eliminated houseguests in Big Brother 18 Episode 14. In a special battle back episode, Glenn, Jozea, Victor, Bronte, and Tiffany will fight to return to the house. Can’t say I want most of these people to return.

Each person must compete in the order in which they were evicted and then will advance if they win.

Glenn and Jozea run the berry balance beam competition. Jozea is overconfident as is his nature, still referring to himself as the messiah. Glenn’s taking the long route, while Jozea goes the shorter but more difficult way. Glenn may be slow, but Jozea is the first to fall. He falls a second time before deciding against the short path. Each person has a poison berry that they can use to reset their opponent’s column. Returning seconds late with his pretty much spells game over for Glenn. Jozea wins.

Jozea’s next opponent is his buddy Victor. Bleh against less bleh. Their challenge is to knock down targets by bouncing balls off rackets. Victor takes the lead 1-1 before Jozea ties it. Victor takes the lead again 3-1 before Jozea ties it. Victor hits the next two to win. At least Jozea won’t be returning. He was one of the worst players ever with the personality to match.

Victor’s next opponent is Bronte, the next person who got brought down by foolishly following Jozea’s lead. Their task is to review a series of photos and answer questions, and both have the strategy of just randomly guessing. Victor’s first guess has three incorrect answers, but that is better than Bronte’s five. Victor’s second attempt has just one wrong, while Bronte just keeps guessing over and over. Victor wins on his third attempt.

The final battle is between Victor and Tiffany. They will search through their bins for puzzle pieces. It’s a puzzle challenge, but it’s a giant puzzle that also requires a lot of climbing.

Victor wins the final battle and will return to the house. Meh. Tiffany’s not done playing, though. She tells him to trust Frank but not Da’Vonne. What a difference a week makes because if they took her out last week, she would have just gotten done calling Frank a dictator before being evicted.

Not finished there, Julie tells us about another twist, a secret room that contains a special power.
