American Idol Season 10 Episode 38

Haley Reinhart was finally eliminated in American Idol Season 10 Episode 37, leaving us with a final two battle between young country singers Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina. Thankfully tonight’s show is only 1 hour long.

Lauren blew out one of her vocal chords, but the doctor says she’ll be fine to make it through the hour. At least the rumors of Haley returning did not end up coming true.

Scotty starts off with Gone by Montgomery Gentry, and Lauren kicks off the night with Flat on the Floor by Carrie Underwood.

Then Scotty sings Check Yes or No by George Strait (chosen by George Strait). Seems we’re not going to be getting much judging tonight. Not that we normally do. All we get from this panel is how everything is beautiful. Lauren follows with Maybe It Was Memphis by Pam Tillis (chosen by Carrie Underwood, who at least didn’t pick her own song).

Randy gives round 1 to Scotty, but he gives round 2 to Lauren. Jennifer agrees with him. Steven offers no useful insight. Next they’ll both sing their winner’s songs, which typically just get chucked aside quickly. The only memorable one is Kelly Clarkson’s A Moment Like This.

Scotty McCreery
Song: I Love You This Big
Randy: Not the perfect song for you, but the range was great. Brilliant vocal.
Jennifer: Amazing job.
Steven: Come a long way.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-01 or 1-866-IDOLS-03 or 1-866-IDOLS-05 or 1-866-IDOLS-07

Lauren Alaina
Song: Like My Mother Does
Randy: Great song. Finally the Lauren we grew to love in Nashville.
Jennifer: You may have just won.
Steven: You are it in my eyes.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-02 or 1-866-IDOLS-04 or 1-866-IDOLS-06 or 1-866-IDOLS-08

Randy gives round 3 to Lauren. Jennifer just says it was a tight race. Steven finally makes a decision, giving Lauren the win.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of American Idol Season 10 Episode 39, where we will find out who the American Idol Season 10 winner is, which airs Wednesday at 8/7c on Fox.

The Biggest Loser Season 11 Winner

Sisters Hannah and Olivia managed to secure the first two spots in the finale in The Biggest Loser Season 11 Episode 20.

Jay and Irene are competing for America’s votes for the final spot in the top 3. The winner of America’s vote is Irene, so no matter what happens, this year’s Biggest Loser will be a woman. In a season full of quitters, there were a few shining stars. I think we have the right trio there.

Tonight marks Jillian Michaels’ final episode of The Biggest Loser. Supposedly, she was leaving to focus on being a mom, although recently we found out she’s got a gig with Dr. Phil.

Jay now joins the other eliminated contestants to compete for the at home prize of $100,000.

Ana: 146 pounds (-109, 42.75%) – a high starting mark to beat for somebody who left in week 1
Courtney: 213 pounds (-110, 34.06%)
Marci: 152 pounds (-86, 36.13%)
Dan: 163 pounds (-124, 43.21%)
Don: 179 pounds (-130, 42.07%)
Q: 344 pounds (-93, 21.28%)
Larialmy: 217 pounds (-84, 27.91%)
Moses: 287 pounds (-153, 34.77%)
Kaylee: 179 pounds (-54, 23.17%) – 14 pounds gained since leaving campus in week 17
Ken: 219 pounds (-158, 41.91%)
Austin: 222 pounds (-174, 43.94%)
Sarah: 155 pounds (-106, 40.61%)
Deni: 131 pounds (-125, 48.83%) – excellent numbers for this season’s oldest female at age 59
Arthur: 344 pounds (-163, 32.15%)
Jesse: 210 pounds (-83, 28.33%)
Justin: 192 pounds (-173, 47.40%)
Jen: 164 pounds (-114, 41.01%)
Jay: 219 pounds (-181, 45.25%)
No Rulon (if anyone cares)

Deni is The Biggest Loser At Home winner. Well done. Her daughter looks like a completely different person, too.

Next we head into the battle for the top prize. As The Biggest Loser on campus, Irene will decide the order.

Before we get into the final weigh in, it’s time to announce the newest trainer. Because three is not enough, apparently, even though two has been plenty for the past seven seasons. Anna Kournikova will be joining the show as of next season. Perhaps they’re getting rid of Brett and/or Cara. Who knows? What we do know is Bob’s not going anywhere.

Hannah: 128 pounds (-120, 48.39%)
Irene: 139 pounds (-116, 45.49%)
Olivia: 132 pounds (-129, 50.19%)

Beating out her sister, Olivia Ward is The Biggest Loser for season 11. Not to be outdone, her husband has lost 113 pounds.

With its continuing popularity on an otherwise lackluster network (thanks for cancelling The Event and Outsourced by the way), The Biggest Loser will be back in September.

The Celebrity Apprentice 4 Winner

Following the interview round elimination of Lil Jon and Meat Loaf in The Celebrity Apprentice 4 Episode 11, the final two of John Rich and Marlee Matlin got to work on their final task for 7UP Retro.

First thing’s first. Donald Trump has made the ever so shocking announcement he has no plans to run for President. Although it was all just an attempt to grab some attention, Trump’s not the worst person I can think of to run the country. He’d be hard pressed to do worse than we’ve seen the last several years. Immediately after NBC said he was expendable and would be replaced on this show if he were to run, he all of a sudden made the decision to stick around. Some fresh blood wouldn’t be the worst thing for this show. It’s not like Survivor where Jeff Probst is a critical element to the show’s success. Sure, they don’t want to do another Martha Stewart season, but it wouldn’t be difficult to drop a business person into the show’s current format and basically keep things going as is.

We were left with a cliffhanger, one that I doubt will hurt either team for long.

First, Marlee’s team is dealing with Geoffrey Holder refusing to sign his contract. Yeah, because I’m sure an 80 year old who’s most well known for some commercials in the 1970s has more pressing matters than appearing on the season finale of a popular TV show. Eventually, he does show up as expected.

Meanwhile, John Rich has to deal with Def Leppard. Unlike the other team, which has no backup plan, John is willing to just do the show and send these guys packing, complete with all the bad publicity that refusing to do a celebrity performance would entail. They still refuse to bow to his idea of using a kickdrum, but they’re willing to work with him. I don’t get the sense they weren’t willing to work with him. This is so lame.

Ivanka is pregnant. I’m sure we’ll see her child appearing on the show some time soon, like the rest of the Trump family. Remember when people who were not related to Trump used to be able to get on this show? Or people who were friends of Trump were not given instant get out of jail, go straight to victory cards no matter how poorly they and their offspring performed? Don Jr. is expecting his third child. We’ve already seen his other kids on this show. Speaking of which, Marlee’s basketball game is the perfect opportunity for them to make another appearance.

Marlee’s team knows they have things to do. Except they just don’t know what needs to get done, or who’s supposed to do it, as nothing has been delegated. La Toya’s getting worried John Rich is going to win. By the time the Globetrotters show up, they seem to have everything in order.

The whole cast is back for the live show, minus the jailed Richard Hatch. Even NeNe the quitter is back, although the season’s other quitter Jose Canseco is not. David Cassidy is happy Hatch is in prison. Lisa blames Star for her departure. She’s not alone, but for all the people complaining about Star, she was just better than they were.

It’s not a fundraising task, but that’s not stopping John Rich from getting donations without trying. He raises $25,000, then he gets another $250,000, putting him over the $1 million mark.

Marlee had Meat Loaf greeting people at the door. John Rich decides not to greet anybody, including Trump.

John has another problem. He’s running ahead of schedule. It’s 6:40 when he introduces Def Leppard. He told them 7. They’ll be down at 7 and not a minute sooner. His resolution is to play some songs to fill time. I find him more entertaining than they are.

Both events go well. In the end, I’m not clear how it would have been possible to screw up either.

The 7UP execs have decided they will be using the cans from both teams, which isn’t going to help Trump in making a decision about the winner.

NeNe stands by being a raving lunatic. Star is embarrassed for her. La Toya says NeNe has a good heart, deep down.

Now for the final boardroom. First up, they bring out the cans. La Toya says the other team’s can pops.

John’s defense for the timing mishap is that he was rattled by having raised $275k just before they went on stage. This puts Marlee on the defensive, although Trump says he’s not going to give a bonus for it.

In total, almost $3 million has been raised this season, mostly by Marlee and John.

Everybody initially dances around the question of who should win. Meat Loaf says Trump’s broken the rules already, and should break the rules again and let them both win. In season 4, Trump made this offer to the winner, but Randal declined to share. Star finally gives an answer, saying the money raised in the final task by John Rich takes it over the top. Lil Jon obviously supports his buddy John. La Toya continues this trend. David supports Marlee. Mark McGrath supports John because he had the best season ever, not just one great week.

They keep talking about how close this is, but it has been John Rich’s to lose from the beginning. Either way, they’re both a lot better than either Joan Rivers or Bret Michaels were.

The Celebrity Apprentice 4 winner is John Rich.

NBC has already confirmed that the show will be back next year for season 5.

American Idol Season 10 Episode 37

The top 3 performed in American Idol Season 10 Episode 36. Tonight one (presumably female) will go home.

Between Casey and Haley, I’m quite done with the growling. Quite.

With only three people left, Seacrest has a lot of time to waste. Even the first result may not come in for 55 minutes. Strangely, though, I found this episode more watchable than the typical elimination show.

It goes without saying that the first person with a shot at this season’s title is Scotty McCreery.

That leaves us with a battle between the girls as expected. The person who will compete against Scotty in the finale is Lauren Alaina. So basically neither person in the top two can drink. Or vote. 6 weeks after her first trip to the bottom three, Haley Reinhart has finally been eliminated.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of American Idol Season 10 Episode 38, which airs Tuesday at 8/7c on Fox.

American Idol Season 10 Episode 36

With the elimination of James Durbin in American Idol Season 10 Episode 35, one of the frontrunners departed the competition earlier than many expected. Could be worse. America could have voted out Pia while keeping far weaker singers around instead. Oh. Wait. At least we get to watch Haley get all mad when the judges give her criticism.

Okay, for starters, two hours? Really? Even for three songs each, I repeat. Really? Still, less filler than the fastforwarding I’ll be doing tomorrow.

First, they will sing songs chosen by themselves with guest mentor Beyonce.

Scotty McCreery
Song: Amazed by Lonestar
Steven: Saw you get angry. That’s what I’ve been waiting for.
Jennifer: Good to see you use your vibrato.
Randy: I recorded the song. I produced it.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-01 or 1-866-IDOLS-04 or 1-866-IDOLS-07

Lauren Alaina
Song: Wild One by Faith Hill
Jennifer: Gotta attack it like that every single time.
Randy: Nice song choice. Could tell you were loving it.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-02 or 1-866-IDOLS-05 or 1-866-IDOLS-08

Haley Reinhart
Song: What Is and What Should Never Be by Led Zeppelin
Randy: What it’s all about. One of your best performances ever.
Steven: Superb.
Jennifer: I’ve fallen on stage.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-03 or 1-866-IDOLS-06 or 1-866-IDOLS-09

The judges give round 1 to Haley. I don’t get it. For round 2, Jimmy Iovine will make the song choices. Oh joy. We’ve seen how well that works.

Scotty McCreery
Song: Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not by Thompson Square
Steven: You were living that one.
Jennifer: That’s what the zone feels like.
Randy: Great song for you. Approaching that Garth level performance.

Lauren Alaina
Song: If I Die Young by The Band Perry
Jennifer: Most beautiful tone of our finalists. Got caught up in the honesty a couple times.
Randy: What she said.
Steven: Beautiful song, beautiful voice, nailed it again.

Haley Reinhart
Song: Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks
Randy: Perfect pitch. More of a somber moment.
Steven: Remind me of why I fell in love with Stevie Nicks.
Jennifer: Thought you were going to take it a little further. Nice contrast to what you did earlier.

He may have picked some pretty obscure songs, but Jimmy didn’t do too badly after all. Steven gives this round to Lauren, while Jennifer and Randy give it to Scotty. Jimmy goes with Scotty, too, I think. The judges get to pick for round 3.

Scotty McCreery
Song: She Believes in Me by Kenny Rogers
Steven: Haven’t heard you sing a chorus yet like that.
Jennifer: I guess you showed us.
Randy: So sweet and tender in the front. Hit the chorus.

Lauren Alaina
Song: I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack
Jennifer: Goosies from head to toe. You won that round for me already.
Randy: Sure Lee Ann’s watching and saying dude you slayed it.
Steven: Like you owned the Grand Ole Opry.

Haley Reinhart
Song: You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette
Randy: Some amazing choruses for you. Loved seeing you rock out. A little problem with the rhythm.
Jennifer: Nobody who can match you in the choruses.

Steven gives round 3 to Haley. Jennifer gives it to Lauren. Randy agrees.

The Biggest Loser Season 11 Episode 20

The girls continued to stick together in The Biggest Loser Season 11 Episode 19, leading to the elimination of Austin. That brings us down to on trainer per contestant.

It’s the final week heading into the final weigh in that two people will survive. The other two will have their fate in America’s hands.

The contestant who makes the best turkey burger will get $5,000 plus, for the guest of their choice, a two week stay at The Biggest Loser Resort at Fitness Ridge. They’re going to be cooking for kids. I didn’t even know kids like turkey burgers. Time to break out the green slime and volcano burgers. The concept of healthy eating pretty much is going out the window here. Irene and Olivia only score a few votes. Hannah gets 22 kids with her cheesy burger, but Jay wins with 31 votes for his volcano burger.

Now they have one last challenge. They get a visit from season 10 winner Patrick. Each person has a golf bag filled with weighted flags representing the amount of weight they lost each week, which they must drop off at each station along the way. The winner will get a $15,000 at home gym. Everybody starts 100 pounds or so heavier. After the first station, Olivia calls for a medic. Hannah grabs the lead. Around week 8, they’re able to jog a bit. Irene hopes to catch up to Hannah. Jay figures he’ll probably end up in last, but at least he’ll finish. Hannah keeps her lead throughout the challenge and wins. Although only Hannah gets the complete gym, they will all be receiving an arc trainer.

This season has not been significantly longer than some of the earlier seasons, but those extra few weeks are making the transformations we see throughout this challenge that much more impressive. Even Jay, who started out at 400 pounds, should be under 200 by the finale. Their finale weight is likely to be their bottom weight, from which they’ll go up to varying degrees, so the more time they have on the ranch or for that matter even in the at home competition, the better.

1 hour left, and it’s time for the weigh in. How are you gonna fill that? I’m half expecting a 90 minute The Voice, but know that’s not going to happen.

Irene: 144 pounds (-3, 2.04%)
Jay: 242 pounds (-4, 1.63%)
Olivia: 149 pounds (-4, 2.61%)
Hannah: 146 pounds (-4, 2.67%) – over 100 pounds lost (the third woman to lose more than 100 pounds, alongside the other two final four females)

That puts Olivia and Hannah in the final three, marking the first time two sisters have gotten that far together. Jay and Irene will now compete for America’s votes. Irene leaves the house as The Biggest Loser on campus.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Biggest Loser Season 11 Episode 21, when we will find out who The Biggest Loser 11 winner is, which airs Tuesday at 8/7c on NBC.

The Celebrity Apprentice 4 Episode 11

In an eventful three hour The Celebrity Apprentice 4 Episode 10, NeNe Leakes quit (good riddance), La Toya Jackson got fired again, and then Star Jones got fired when Meat Loaf should have.

They will be interviewed by the three Celebrity Apprentice winners, one of whom, Piers Morgan, actually deserved to win. If the other two are anything to go by, it’s not about necessarily being the best. A sympathy vote apparently goes a long way for Trump, and being his friend doesn’t hurt either.

John Rich would get rid of Meat Loaf, who has been a little erratic. As for Marlee, she’s raised a lot of money, but that’s it. His strength has been writing, but Piers says he’s not impressed. He promises a completely new gear because this is an individual situation.

Bret thinks Lil Jon’s a sleeper who didn’t get here by accident. Strangely enough, he thinks that the final two will be John Rich against Marlee Matlin. This is a fair answer, but you wouldn’t expect it from one of their competitors. Meat Loaf, however, is too emotional.

Meat Loaf thinks that being the oldest was an asset. It worked for Joan Rivers. That was the only very lame excuse Trump had for giving her the win. He doesn’t believe his anger management and emotional issues are a detriment. He thinks Lil Jon is a little lazy, and he didn’t know who John Rich was before he came here.

Marlee calls this the hardest thing she’s ever done. People may think she can’t do some things because she’s deaf, but she’s done well regardless. That said, she had one amazing task, but without that, there’s not much else. Piers questions whether she’s got anything left, and she says she’s been pretty much tapped out.

The three winners were in agreement with the two people they chose.

John Rich would pick himself and Marlee. Lil Jon would pick himself and John. Marlee would pick herself and John Rich. Meat Loaf would pick himself and John Rich. So all four people say John.

Because he said earlier Marlee and John should be in the finals, Lil Jon has been fired.

Meat should have been sent packing last week instead of Star so we weren’t merely delaying the inevitable. Having displayed too much emotion, Meat Loaf has been fired.

That leaves us with a rematch of the highest earning task in history, John Rich vs. Marlee Matlin.

The final task is to launch 7UP Retro, a product made with real sugar. They will design the packaging and in store display, write/create/produce a commercial, and launch the product at a star studded event. One of them will celebrate the 1970s and work with the Harlem Globetrotters, while the other will work with Def Leppard to bring the 1980s to life. They will be judged on creativity of design, commercial, launch event, and inclusion of decade/charity/personality. Both charities will receive $50,000 to get started.

Marlee’s just happy it’s not another fundraiser.

As the leading money winner, Marlee gets her choice of the two tasks. She selects the Globetrotters, which surprises musician John Rich, who thought there’s no way she would give him the rockers. John Rich gets to start team selection. Even though she realizes she may have given John an advantage, Marlee loves sports and would rather have something very visual.

John: Lil Jon, Mark McGrath, Star Jones
Marlee: Meat Loaf, Richard Hatch, La Toya Jackson

That pretty well gives John the musical dream team.

La Toya quickly finds out what the guys have had to deal with all this time as she sits there listening to Meat Loaf’s rambling. He’ll arrive at a good thought eventually, though.

John thinks he’s come up with a hook that’s going to work: 7UP, Still Keeping It Real. They will be going with zebra striped cans.

The other team arrives at a slogan of Feel the Love. They have a disco ball and a boombox for their cans and boxes.

Star’s happy to be on this team with all the guys. John Rich is just lucky he’s married.

Ivanka’s a little concerned that Marlee will be dominated by Meat Loaf again.

Once Meat Loaf leaves, Richard Hatch and Marlee decide to dump his boombox idea. When he finds out, he warns that they’re making a huge giant mistake, one that could cost her the entire game.

John wants to get Dee Snider from Twisted Sister, but there’s a problem. He’s got facial hair that he can’t shave because of his Rock of Ages contract. He calls to get the okay to shave. Their concept is that they’re auditioning really bad 80s talents, and Dee is bad as well, until he gets some 7UP Retro and turns into Twisted Sister.

Marlee wants to bring back the guy who did the original 70s 7UP commercials, Geoffrey Holder. They dial 411 to find him. How quaint. He’s available. The team members will also be starring in the commercial. Hatch has a fro, La Toya’s a superhero, and Meat Loaf is Meat Loaf.

Since we’re approaching the end of part one of the finale, it’s time to throw up some curve balls that at the end of the day won’t make any difference. John Rich gets into a bit of an argument with Def Leppard’s road manager. Marlee gets a call from Geoffrey Holder, whose lawyer refuses to sign the release.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Celebrity Apprentice 4 Episode 12, where we will find out who The Celebrity Apprentice 4 winner is, which airs Sunday at 9/8c on NBC.

Survivor: Redemption Island Winner

Grant’s elimination in Survivor: Redemption Island Episode 13 brought us down to the final four: odds on favorite Boston Rob Mariano, young girl pairing Natalie Tenerelli and Ashley Underwood, and no prayer of getting a vote crazy person Phillip Sheppard. Those girls are the main obstacle to Rob finally winning a million dollars on his sixth attempt, and we have seen him robbed right at the finish line before (The Amazing Race 7 comes to mind). The other twist is that it’s still anybody’s game because Grant Mattos, Matt Elrod (and God), Mike Chiesl, and Andrea Boehlke all have the opportunity to return back to the game. If it’s somebody from the Zapatera tribe (now down to just Mike), many of them have made it clear they intend to make personal decisions and are bitter that they got themselves eliminated.

Since Probst only read three Grant votes, that leaves open the possibility in Grant’s mind that perhaps Rob did not betray him.

When Grant arrives on Redemption Island, Andrea is not happy to see him. Now she’s got three formidable challenge opponents to get past if she wants to earn her way back into the game.

Rob’s gut is telling him Ashley has to go. Still.

Matt has, apparently, decided that God is no longer punishing him, letting him live in a special place for the past month. Don’t tell him God has bigger problems than who wins or does not win Survivor.

It’s time for the final duel, in which one person will remain and reenter the game. They will place their foot on one end of a balancing board. On the other end is a ceramic vase. When the vase falls, they’re out of the game. They’re all still in it at 20 minutes. Then still at 40 minutes, in yet more pain. Shortly after 40 minutes, Grant is the first person eliminated, good news for those watching, if perhaps not the best news. Matt is the next person to fall, finally being eliminated from the game in his eleventh duel. If there’s anything Andrea can win, an endurance competition is probably her best hope. Mike is out, and Zapatera is dead. Andrea returns to the game.

Andrea’s strategy to get back in is to form an alliance with the girls. First, she says the others on the island called the girls Rob’s puppets, then she says multiple people are thinking about voting for Phillip. She admits this is all random stuff she’s making up that may or may not be necessarily a lie. This is just what Ashley was hoping for. Now it’s a question of which way Natalie swings.

For today’s challenge, they’ll race across a balance beam collecting a series of bags containing numbers, which they must place in order from 1-100. Typically I’d look at this as a girl’s challenge to win because if you don’t have balance you may as well not bother, but we know Rob’s got good balance, too. Rob is the first one to complete the first 10. Andrea and Ashley are behind him. Natalie’s in fourth not far behind, while Phillip’s out of it. Ashley and Rob finish their second bag containing 20 pieces at the same time. Rob falls behind on the third bag of 30 pieces, and Ashley is the first back with the fourth and final bag. Rob loses a lot of time on the third bag, and while he and Andrea are about tied for second, the outcome here is obvious. Ashley wins immunity.

Not what he would have wanted for sure, but now Rob’s target shifts to Andrea. Since she proved herself in the recent endurance competition and has spent some time with the Zapatera tribe, she may not be the worst person to get rid of.

Rob’s not at all worried, but he should be. Andrea and Ashley both want him gone. Natalie promises Ashley that her vote is going toward Phillip next time.

When Rob returns from fishing, Phillip gives Rob his full report of how the girls were talking in the woods. Phil has this conversation with Rob openly, while Andrea’s sitting right there. Rob thanks him for his info, and welcomes him to day 37.

Andrea reiterates what she said earlier at tribal council. The other two girls haven’t done anything yet. In turn, Rob points out why they don’t want to be sitting next to her at the end either.

In spite of his earlier joke that he would take the hidden immunity idol home as a souvenir, that’s just not a smart move. With this being the final tribal council in which the idol can be played, Rob does indeed play the idol he’s been sitting on for quite some time. Better safe than sorry.

Andrea had a logical argument that was ultimately moot whether it worked or not because Rob had an idol in his back pocket. She has been voted out again, talking about how the girls should have done something to prove they were playing the game. Which would have accomplished what? Same result regardless, only at least now they can say they had Rob’s back so he doesn’t try to get even.

When they get back to camp, Rob promises the girls he’s taking them to the end.

Now we head right for the final challenge. They will race through a giant maze, collecting four bags of puzzle pieces. They will use those pieces to solve a word phrase. A maze is anybody’s game, though I think we can count Phillip out as usual. Rob gets the first puzzle bag, and Ashley follows him to get hers. Phillip also has his first bag. Natalie’s a bit lost and in last place. Ashley and Rob continue to follow each other to their next set of pieces, and Phillip continues to run neck and neck with them. Ashley continues to follow Rob around, keeping both of them in first place. Know what would have been smart here, challenge designers? Higher maze walls that you can’t see over. Rob’s got his final bag with Ashley still behind him. Phillip’s got his third bag. Natalie remains lost. As we head into the puzzle, Rob has about a 10 second lead on Ashley. Ashley has two of the four words when Rob suggests working together. They both pretend to not have anything yet, but both are getting close. Rob wins immunity.

The question now remains what it’s been all season: who does Rob want to get rid of?

Getting rid of Phillip would be very simple and require no work at all, but nobody’s going to vote for him, so keeping him around basically brings us down to a final two rather than a final three. Ashley, however, might actually get some votes. Can’t imagine why, but let’s just say she at least has better odds than Phillip.

At the last minute, Rob goes to Natalie to tell her of the plan to get rid of Ashley, who keeps asking Natalie whether Rob has mentioned her being in danger, but she does not reveal that anything is happening.

With 3 votes, Ashley has been voted off the island.

Natalie says she played a great social game and was loyal to her alliance. Phillip thanks Boston Rob (aka the mastermind) for getting him this far.

Andrea tells Phillip he’s weird and wants to know who he really is. His answer is that she’s right. She doesn’t know who he is, but she’s had 39 days. She calls Natalie’s relationship with Rob borderline creepy, and asks why she turned on her best friend. Really? Andrea eventually gives up her fight, not getting an answer she wants from either of them.

Ashley is sick of Phillip, so she’s going to speak, and he’s not going to comment. Of course he will, and she can call him pathetic all she wants, but her telling him he can’t talk is equally pathetic. She’s also not happy with Natalie because she betrayed her friendship. You’ll get over it. Don’t play Survivor if you can’t. Speaking of which, she doesn’t like that Rob deceived a lot of people. Okay, are you done whining yet?

Grant asks Natalie and Rob about their alliance. Rob explains that he agreed to take Natalie to the end if she listened to what he told her, and he got rid of Grant because he thought he was going to kick his ass.

Ralph and Natalie never talked. Can’t blame her. Phillip likes Ralph’s work ethic and thinks he’s funny and a decent man. Well, that was unexpected.

Matt asks Rob where the line’s drawn. Granted, this is the same guy who thinks God cares about Survivor (he doesn’t), so maybe it’s not just a game to him.

Julie doesn’t think any of the three played a respectable game. Oh, and it was respectable to throw a challenge for the sake of getting rid of one of your own for no good reason? She doesn’t want to hear any answers from any of them, merely wanting to lecture them. Phillip tells her he didn’t come out here to get her respect. Just to kick her ass. Well said.

Mike asks whether they learned anything about themselves. Natalie learned that she’s stronger and more capable than she thought she could be. Rob says he needs to stop playing games, and this is the last day he will ever play. Phil learned he could stand on his own.

For a change, Steve congratulates Natalie for making it to the end, rather than ripping into her for being Rob’s carpet. He also congratulates Rob for being a warrior and having lasted 117 days in this game. As for Phil, however, he’s a shameful, sorry man. Hard to say I blame him after that stunt midseason where he brought race into a place it didn’t need to be.

David merely wants to talk to the jury. Rob controlled everything and everyone. A little ruthless but brilliant. Having played the best strategic game ever, Rob should get their vote.

I think we all know who should win this game, though a bitter jury casting a thoroughly questionable vote is never out of the question. The question is whether it will be a clean sweep, which we find out it will not be, as at least one person (Ralph) has sent a vote Phillip’s way.

The Survivor: Redemption Island winner is Rob Mariano. Fourth time’s a charm. Well deserved. Jeff says that was as close to a perfect game as he’s seen.

Russell tells Jeff to keep his number. He’s not entirely opposed to coming back, no matter how much he dances around the issue.

Phillip apologizes to Steve for playing the race card. And he really did train to be a federal agent. Whether he made it or not is still anybody’s guess.

The Sprint player of the season with a $100,000 prize came down to two people who dominated the voting with 76% of the vote between them. Boston Rob against Matt. With 40% of the vote, Boston Rob’s total for the season is up to $1.1 million. How the hell did somebody else manage 36%? Kudos for lasting so long in exile, but it’s not like Matt actually did anything in the game, having been voted out twice in the span of three votes.

David hooked up with Carolina Eastwood from Survivor: Tocantins. Now would be as good as time as any to propose to her then, whether they’ve only known each other for a few months or not.

Still a top 20 show even with the move to Wednesdays and up against American Idol (a show that has not aged nearly as well 10 years later), Survivor will be back again in the fall. Redemption Island will return in Survivor: South Pacific, and 16 new contestants will be joined again by 2 returning players.
