Big Brother 8 Episode 19

Following the nomination of father and daughter, Dick won veto in episode 18 and used it to remove his daughter from the block. In her place, Dustin was nominated. This leaves Dick with a best case scenario of a 3-3 tie, assuming Jen (the “ally” he detests) and Zach (the wildcard) vote for him. Ah, but then things get interesting thanks to America. America can potentially save Dick tonight by instructing Eric to vote Dustin out. Aside from the fact that Dustin’s never had much support as far as I can tell, Dick has had quite a bit, which seems to be going up after this week when a lot of people found his antics funny (for more than two seconds). I’m not so sure anyone’s going to actually want to run the risk of either forcing a tie or hoping for a stray vote, but it could easily happen and be one of the biggest moments in the game thus far. Granted, this wouldn’t make much strategic sense, but this year’s motto is pretty clear. Strategy? What’s that?

Danielle is touched by her father’s gesture with the veto. Jen couldn’t care less who leaves. Dustin thinks he’s safe but either way was dumb enough to offer himself up when it would have made more sense to put up Zach.

Eric’s got some splainin to do but has managed to bury the hatchet with Jessica. Until the next time he’s given a task. Zach cooks dinner for Jessica to kiss up to her and get the chance to try to talk some strategy and make a bond. He says he will vote however she wants. This may be one of the few attempts he’s made at this sort of gameplay this season.

America votes for Eric to try to get Dustin booted. Yeah, he’s about as surprised as I am, which is to say not at all. In between flirting, he makes somewhat of an effort to convince Jessica that Dustin’s a threat. Dick makes a deal with Eric that the two pairs (Danielle/Dick and Jessica/Eric) go to the end together. If this sticks, two pairs is very dangerous. Someone needs to pull in a third wheel. After that, Eric actually makes some logical points with the silly and broken puzzle pieces he’s been receiving as America’s Player, and does throw forth a more compelling argument about why Dustin should go. The fact that he and Jessica aren’t in bed with her talking about her boobs seems to help the conversation flow a bit better than the first one.

Because Dustin’s on the block, we get to see Joe again. Why? Didn’t this guy already get kicked out early because he was obnoxious? Much bitterness ensues, but with some valid points in there somewhere… I think.

Jessica tells Julie she trusts Eric and Jameka the most. She also says she has a great time with Eric but wants to remain focused on the game rather than having a showmance.

Votes to evict:
Amber-Dick
Eric-Dustin
Jameka-Dick
Danielle-Dustin
Zach-Dustin
Jen-Dustin

Well, the popularity contest voting influencing the game continues, as America saves Dick, and probably not for the last time this year. By a vote of 4-2, Dustin has been evicted. This has the potential to have a long lasting impact on the entire season. One interesting thing is that Jessica ultimately is responsible for Dustin’s boot because she could have controlled Zach, yet is also the only one who won’t be blamed.

Dustin’s clearly shocked that volunteering himself for nomination was stupid, and he jumps on the Eric is a weasel bandwagon. Dick believes he’s the reason Dustin has been evicted.

For the HOH competition, the house is invaded by a vertically challenged person, barbershop quartet, and a pirate on stilts repeating random phrases, along with some rabbits wearing playing cards and a living statue. Jameka can’t compete for HOH because of the veto competition sacrifice. Gee, it’s a true/false game based primarily on luck. Another big surprise.

Jen is eliminated on the first question.
Dick and Zach are eliminated on the second question.
Eric is eliminated on the third question.
Amber is eliminated on the fourth question.

Danielle is the new HOH. I’d believe Amber and Jameka are the main targets, but it’s unclear what Dick will do with his HOH power.

Big Brother 8 Episode 18

On Big Brother 8 Episode 17, Jessica nominated Dick and Danielle for eviction as expected. Not bothering to wait for veto to see whether he or his daughter would be safe, Dick proceeded to turn up the heat in an attempt to make sure everyone in the house hated him enough so they’d not only vote him out but also contemplate strangling him in his sleep, a great plan considering he’ll be with them in sequester and his actions will linger and be blamed on Danielle by those who remain. Jessica revealed her true target is Danielle. Because they fear that one of them is going home and without anyone else in the house to trust, though, Dick and Danielle do appear to be starting to bond some.

The veto selections:
Jessica randomly selects Jameka.
Danielle randomly selects Dustin.
Dick randomly selects Zach.

The veto competition is a combination gross food/croquet challenge. The more drinks you finish, ranging from plain water to BB blood (I don’t want to know), the more shots you get. Jameka gets stuck on a bacon/egg/OJ drink. Dustin doesn’t appear to have any problems, nor does Dick. Zach wimps out and pretends he threw it. Danielle’s gagging the whole time but does decent. Jessica also has trouble keeping it down, just what I need to see while I’m eating. Then comes the croquet, which is mostly moot because it’s really just about who has the most shots.

Zach-3 shots, 6 points
Jameka-4 shots, 10 points
Jessica-5 shots, 17 points
Danielle-7 shots, 20 points
Dustin-10 shots, 32 points
Dick-10 shots, 33 points

Dick wins veto. Will he save himself or sacrifice himself for Danielle? While Dick celebrates by starting fights, the entire house, including Jen and Zach, runs upstairs to get away from him. Danielle eventually follows and gets into a long debate about how she’s tired of being blamed for what he does.

Jessica jokingly says she’s going to put Dustin up if Dick saves Danielle. Dustin requests that he be put up instead. Never a smart move, but Dick is probably the best person ever to be nominated against.

America tells Eric to give the silent treatment to Jessica. Great. Why doesn’t America just say we never want to have any more say in this game ever again? Jen convinces Jessica Dustin has a deal with Dick. And Jessica buys it. Huh? Eric obviously fails this task but does manage to irritate her to the point where she gets paranoid and believes he has a deal with Dick, too.

As promised, Dick uses the veto to save Danielle. A respectable move that most parents would do, even if Dick does top Marcellas. Per his request, Dustin has been nominated alongside Dick.

As per usual, America gets to tell Eric who to evict. Oh hell. Why not just kick him out the house now? It’s pretty obvious the choice will be Dustin, which will only contribute to the growing conspiracy theories in the house. This stray vote is, however, Dick’s only chance of staying in the house, albeit a small one.

Big Brother 8 Episode 17

Jessica emerged victorious in the HOH competition on Big Brother 8 Episode 16, which means there are about 2-3 people who will be surprised if the nominations are Dick and Danielle, but there’s still plenty of room for fireworks and drama.

Dick is upset about being lied to and tells Eric he doesn’t deserve to be here (as if lying is something new in this game). The LNC goes nuts over Jessica’s HOH win, reminiscent of season 6. There are no secrets any more how this house is divided. For a change, instead of just listening to what Dick says and taking it, everybody gets up in his face. And it’s another argument about religion between Jameka and Dick… because that won’t piss anybody off.

Dick plans to sacrifice himself for Danielle if they’re both nominated. He says he will do whatever it takes to make them hate him so bad they won’t be able to stand him for one more minute. Apparently that would be a change. At some point we go from entertaining and lots of drama to just uncomfortable to watch. Tonight’s theme seems to be religious wars.

Danielle, who turned on her alliance last week, attempts get Jen on her side. Unlike the alliance with Dick, which was most likely equally fake on both parts, this one may actually work. They don’t exactly trust each other but don’t completely hate each other either. Jen’s still just a big floater, but it doesn’t hurt to have people at least not hate her.

The food competition had to do with smashing guitars. Looks like a lot of fun and a great way to relieve the tension that’s been building up in the house. Dick, Danielle, Jen, and Eric lose and are on slop, but Dick wins a slop pass. Dick tries to give it to Danielle, but she tells him to give it to Jen instead, which is a great strategic move.

America wants Eric to get Dustin nominated. Great. Trying to screw him over again, and this time he lets us know. Now it’s Dustin’s turn to start with the bashing. Alcohol never works out well in the BB house. It does, however, open the door for Dustin to say he wants to go up as a pawn, which gives Eric an opportunity to at least make a weak effort in pleading for a Dustin nomination.

So we don’t forget he’s in the house, we get to see some footage of Zach in a bunny suit.

It’s nomination time.
Jameka-Safe
Jen-Safe
Eric-Safe
Amber-Safe
Zach-Safe
Dustin-Safe

Danielle and Dick have been nominated for eviction. Wow. Shocker. Jessica wants Danielle out rather than Dick because Danielle’s a stronger player, but Dick wants no part of that.

This week’s America’s Choice question: Who should Eric give the silent treatment to this week? Yikes, another heavily loaded question.

Big Brother 8 Episode 16

On Big Brother 8 episode 15, Jen pulled herself off the block after winning veto, and Eric was nominated in her place as planned. Dick and Danielle scrambled to get the votes to make an Eric eviction happen, including plotting to join their fiercest enemies, Kail and Jen. Tonight is eviction night. Did they get the 4 votes they need?

Kail is concerned because Eric has no real enemies except for D&D. Eric, who’s been pretty much liked by everybody thus far, proceeds to threaten (to Dick of all people) to tell everyone about a story Amber told him about how she lied about being pregnant to her boyfriend twice, while on drugs. Not a good move. Way too aggressive and desperate. Amber used the overused reality TV phrase of swearing on someone’s life when promising not to vote for Eric, which puts her in a position where she wants to vote for him but doesn’t want to go back on her word. She then confronts Dustin and asks him to vote out Eric for her, and explodes about it in front of the entire house (an excellent way to ensure the dirty laundry is aired to all of America). In exchange for a vote from Dustin and/or Amber, Dick promises a one week deal where neither pair will go after the other, which means Dustin/Amber would be in the position of putting their allies in danger, up to and including potentially nominating one of them (or just lying and putting up Dick/Danielle anyway), in addition to seriously shifting the balance of power in the house.

In her HOH interview, Danielle says that living in the house with her father is difficult but slowly improving. She also tells Julie that whether she’s right or wrong about Eric being the one who cast the stray votes, she’s okay either way because she knows he’s the biggest threat.

It’s time to vote…
Dick-Eric
Jen-Eric
Jessica-Kail
Zach-Eric
Jameka-Kail
Dustin-Kail
Amber-Kail

By a vote of 4-3, Kail has been evicted from the Big Brother house. Eric got lucky that it just didn’t make any sense to boot him. Dustin then tells Dick he voted Eric out because they had a deal. Dun dun dun.

Kail becomes the first person to walk out the door in a bunny suit. She says she doesn’t believe Dick’s attitude is all about strategy because he kept it up for 6 weeks. All the houseguests have pretty positive things to say in their goodbye messages.

The HOH competition is Let’s Make A Duel, which is about what evicted houseguests have said in the diary room. Jameka is not allowed to compete because of the veto competition. Danielle picks Dustin and Eric as the first pair.

Eric buzzes in correctly. Dustin is eliminated. Eric selects Dick and Zach.
Zach buzzes in incorrectly. He is eliminated. Dick selects Eric and Jessica.
Julie screws up the first question, giving the (obvious) answer, and preventing Eric from answering.
Jessica gets the followup question correct. Eric is eliminated. Jessica selects Jen and Dick.
Dick buzzes in incorrectly. He is eliminated. Jen selects Jessica and Amber.
Amber buzzes in incorrectly. She is eliminated.
Jessica answers correctly. Jen is eliminated. Jessica is the new HOH.

Jessica’s sitting pretty. I don’t know whether the HOH win helps her any, but once it was down to her and Jen, she had no choice but to take it. Dick and Danielle made their own bed, with the assistance of a banner ironically intended to help them, and are the likely targets this week. It appears one of them’s pretty much guaranteed to be gone.

Big Brother 8 Episode 15

Previously on Big Brother 8, Jen and Kail were nominated for eviction. Then Jen and Kail were nominated for eviction. Then Jen and Kail were nominated for eviction. Again. Will one of them finally go home? Will one of them get off the block because of the veto? Again? And will I finally wake up from this recurring nightmare? Stick around for another live blog.

Jen finds her nomination hilarious. Definitely taking it better this time than last.

Dick and Danielle want Eric gone, turning on the original alliance, since they know Eric’s lying about the votes. The problem now is securing the votes. Jessica plans on playing along. Dick will obviously go along, Jen is unlikely to vote against Kail, and Zach’s a wildcard who may remain loyal to Nick, despite disliking Kail. The four others seem to be remaining strong together, though.

Time to pick for veto:
Danielle picks Zach at random.
Jen picks Dustin at random.
Kail picks Jameka (houseguest’s choice).
Amber is the host.

It’s a bidding game. The houseguests have to bid highest on various tasks of sacrifice.

First up: bunny suits. Dustin is eliminated with a bid of 100 hours. Jen, Kail, Zach, and Danielle will wear bunny suits for 120 hours.

Second: manure will be dumped on the houseguest who bids highest. Everyone offers to have it dumped on them every hour for 24 hours.

Third: $10,000 cash. Because this didn’t cause any problems last time. The high bidder will be eliminated but will get what they write. Everybody bids 0.

Fourth: how many hours are you willing to live on slop over the next 30 days? Jen and Kail go the max: 720 hours. Zach is eliminated by putting the lowest amount, 250.

Fifth: how many HOH competitions are you willing to not participate in out of the next 5? Massive risk here, but then again, winning HOH generally isn’t that good anyway. Kail and Jameka put 5. Danielle puts 3 and is eliminated with the lowest bid. She attempted to change her answer to 4 at the last minute but was told it’s too late.

Sixth: how much of the grand prize are you willing to give away, up to $250,000? Jen goes the max amount and wins POV, allowing her to pull herself off the block for the third week in a row. The cost to her: $250k if she wins, slop for 30 days, bunny suit for 5 days, and manure on her head once an hour.

Jen, despite being on the outside, has also heard the rumors that Eric will be nominated. Dick hatches a plan to apologize to Jen and attempt to get her on his side. The most insane alliance ever. Neither of them trust each other, but they may need each other. After Jen has a discussion with Jessica, who may be a key swing vote, Jessica begins to wonder whether Eric’s playing her. At the same time, Eric’s closer to her than anyone in the house.

America gets involved again but gives Eric a task that won’t screw him over this time. His assignment is to convince Jessica he wants to take her to the final two, which is easy because it’s true.

Jen uses the veto to save herself. Danielle replaces her with Eric.

Since Eric has been nominated, the vote this week for America’s Player is: Which houseguest should Eric flatter incessantly in order to ensure his safety in the house?

Big Brother 8 Spoilers

Since the Big Brother house is under surveillance 24 hours a day, it allows us to know quite a bit of what’s going on before the show airs. Some people would rather not spoil the suspense. If you’re impatient (like me), though, you may be interested in knowing.

I have created a new page on this site in which I will post the major spoilers as they happen. This will primarily include: nominees, veto winner, and replacement nominee (if applicable).

If you don’t mind being spoiled, head on over to the Big Brother 8 Spoilers page.

Big Brother Pilot Stopped By CBS

TMZ reports that lawyers for Endemol, the production company behind Big Brother, have sent a cease and desist letter to the pilot who has been flying banners over the house for years.

This development happened after it was learned that a banner was going to be flown that spoiled the twist that Eric is America’s player. It also follows on the heels of episode 14 last night, which pointed the finger at Eric as being the one who’s been screwing with the vote all along, though it ironically may just backfire and harm those who it was intended to help.

Pilot Jerry Hider told TMZ, “If I had a bunch of attorneys I would fight this, but it’s not worth my time.”

Big Brother 8 Episode 14

When we left the houseguests in BB8 Episode 13, they were hanging upside down fighting for HOH. Those of you who read the spoilers in that post already know the results of the competition, but tonight we get to watch it play out and see who gets nominated. Dustin is of the belief that it’s 6 against 3. We’ll see how long that lasts.

Amber is first out at 6 minutes.
Eric is disqualified at 9 minutes for going too high.
Jameka is eliminated next.

Generally, they force everyone inside when banners fly over the house because it had such a big influence over the game in season 1. However, since it flew over with perfect timing during an endurance competition, the entire house got to see this one: “We love Nick. Amber & Eric are Liars. LNC is the nerd herd.”

Zach falls at 32 minutes.
Dick is next out at 44 minutes.
Jessica is out at 59 minutes.

Around that time, the gloves come off. Dick starts (again) with the personal attacks on Kail and Jen. Jen then starts about Danielle’s relationship with Nick. Eric for some reason jumps into the battle and begins yelling at Jen, an odd move for someone who’s been pretty much safe and in the middle most of the time.

Jen falls at 1 hour 31 minutes.
Kail makes a deal with Danielle that she’ll be safe, even if she puts her up. As if Danielle controls the vote (she can’t vote, and her father probably won’t even listen to her, let alone anyone else). Kail drops at 1 hour 36 minutes. Danielle is the new HOH.

Danielle believes the second vote to keep Nick was to set her up. America voting on the basis of popularity is wreaking havoc on the house, but at least it’s keeping things interesting. She realizes based on the banner that Eric was responsible for that vote.

Dick and Danielle decide to confide in Jessica because they don’t really have anyone else to count on, telling her Eric’s in an alliance with Jen and Kail. This again? I was impressed they figured the first part out, but then they come up with the theory Jen’s in yet another alliance. Jessica, who’s been getting closer to Eric lately, brings this information to him.

America wants to see Jen get nominated, giving Eric yet another simple task to complete, but perhaps not as simple as last week. While Eric’s pitching the scenario, Dick blows up at him because he knows the voting is screwy.

At the nomination ceremony:
Dustin is safe.
Eric is safe.
Jameka is safe.
Amber is safe.
Dick is safe.
Jessica is safe.
Zach is safe.

Jen and Kail have been nominated. For the third time in a row. Surely a surprise to at least three people. It appears, however, that the actual plan may be to backdoor Eric. Who do you think will go home? Jen, Kail, or neither again?
