Big Brother 17 Episode 23

Steve won the power of veto in Big Brother 17 Episode 22 and removed himself from the block. In his place, Vanessa was nominated against Shelli, successfully completing the planned backdoor nomination. This will be the first of two evictions tonight.

Becky lied to Vanessa about not nominating her, and her defense is that her word was forced from her, not given. I’m not sure that explanation makes sense to anyone else.

Vanessa’s hope is to convince people that Becky has been playing both sides, which she has been. She may have chosen a side now that she’s in power, but it’s been a month and a half.

Votes
Austin: Shelli
Steve: Shelli
James: Shelli
Meg: Shelli
Jackie: Shelli
Julia: Shelli
John: Shelli
Liz: Shelli

Well, that didn’t work. Shelli’s a good person for Becky to get rid of, but that was not her target. By a vote of 8-0, Shelli has been evicted from the Big Brother house. Her role as the head of the power couple sunk her, no matter how strong a game she played, and being up against a very strong nominee sealed the deal. Shelli says she’s rooting for Steve and John, which seems a bit random considering she has multiple alliance members left in the house.

The HOH competition is based on video memory loops. Everybody gets the first question correct. James, Liz, Meg, and Jackie are eliminated on the next question. Everybody gets the third question right. Julia and Vanessa are out next. Everybody gets the next question right. Austin and John are incorrect, and Steve wins HOH. Just yesterday, we watched John say nobody’s targeting him because he can’t win anything, and then he wins the veto and this lame HOH competition.

Nominations
Meg
Jackie

John, James, and Vanessa join the veto competition. They must roll balls down a slope and get one ball in each of three holes in order. John is in the lead the whole way and pulls out a veto win.

John does not use the power of veto. I must have missed the part where John and Steve considered these two the big threats. What happened to Steve supposedly targeting Becky? This does reduce whatever alliance James had going, though.

Votes
Vanessa: Jackie
Becky: Meg
John: Jackie
Austin: Jackie
James: Jackie
Liz: Jackie
Julia: Jackie

With a nearly unanimous vote, aside from the again alone Becky, this was obviously planned. By a vote of 6-1, Jackie has been evicted from the Big Brother house. She says there was some miscommunication with Steve. This is one problem with the double eviction night. I have no idea what just happened.

Big Brother 17 Episode 22

Becky won HOH and nominated a pair of pawns in Big Brother 17 Episode 21. Her choices were Shelli and Steve, both of whom she would be fine with going home, but her actual target is Vanessa.

Steve may not be the target, but Becky is going to be his target if he gets the chance. Unlike Vanessa, he’s pretty much alone. His strategy conversations are even carried out in large groups of one.

Vanessa’s pretty sure she’s the target. She makes the same deal to both Shelli and Steve. If they pick her as houseguest’s choice, she’ll take that person off the block if she wins. I’m not sure if this is smart or shady.

John feels he doesn’t have a lot of allies in this house, so now he is trying to get closer to Shelli, who is herself slowly losing her allies. He also wants to get closer to Steve, so he tells him, too, that Vanessa is the target, but he’s not willing to guarantee Steve he will pull him off the block, unlike what he promised Shelli.

Liz was protesting all season about how she supposedly does not like Austin, but now she’s admitting he is growing on her, even if her sister hates him.

Becky selects Austin to compete in the veto competition. Shelli chooses Vanessa (houseguest’s choice). Steve picks Meg.

As much as Becky and John didn’t want Vanessa to compete in the competition, Shelli didn’t have much choice, unless she wanted it to be completely obvious. Of course, she’s favoring the target over the people who are in power. On the other hand, if Vanessa wins, it doesn’t really matter. She can remove Shelli, and they’re both safe.

Their challenge is to select the correct super hero comics (each with slight differences) of their housemates and put them in the correct order based on the ones they zipline past.

Meg – 15:30
Becky – 17:02
Shelli – 25:31
Austin – 21:20
Steve – 13:57
Vanessa – 21:44

Steve wins the power of veto. Simple enough. He saves himself, and Vanessa goes up.

James gets busted by Vanessa. She knows he’s lying to her as he tries to convince her that he doesn’t know that the “plan” to keep her safe has changed. Somehow, Becky, who is excessively dismissive of Vanessa just in general, convinces her not to worry.

As expected, Steve uses the power of veto on himself, and Vanessa is named as the replacement. She’s the only one who is surprised. Vanessa is hurt that this move is personal, perhaps not the best message to send the first member of the jury.

Big Brother 17 Episode 21

Shelli and Clay were split up in Big Brother 17 Episode 20 as Clay quit so that Shelli could stay.

Now back to the running back and forth HOH competition. Becky is leading the competition. Julia, Shelli, Jackie, and John are competitive, but the gap continues to widen. Becky wins and grabs the have not pass, $5,000, and HOH. This is kind of silly that it only takes about 30 extra seconds to get all the prizes.

Even though he was on his way out, Clay still managed to stir up some controversy in his final hours as a shouting match ensued between Clay, James, and Vanessa after John made a comment to Clay about how he’d rather keep Clay. John spoke to Clay, Clay told Vanessa, and then Vanessa ran around the house confronting everybody. Now John’s target is Vanessa because she flipped out and is too emotional.

Becky had been playing along with whoever was in power, but now she has to pick a side. That side is with James, Jackie, and Meg. More specifically, she’s thinking like John and wants to get rid of Vanessa. That fight from earlier is still fresh and is the last straw that is providing the justification for many.

Becky told her group that she wasn’t going to let anybody know. So she tells Shelli.

Vanessa offers a deal. Becky doesn’t even want to listen. This is an obvious red flag.

What I find interesting is that nobody is trying to break up the twins (still).

Nominations
Shelli
Steve

A pair of pawns have been nominated, either of whom Becky would be fine seeing go home if it comes down to that.

Big Brother 17 Episode 20

Despite their efforts to throw their alliance under the bus for the bad decision they made last week, Shelli and Clay remained on the block at the conclusion of Big Brother 17 Episode 19.

Now James asks Austin about being Judas. These are questions you probably should have asked before the veto ceremony.

Of course, Austin twists James’ words (twist meaning make up new ones) to try to use it against them with the rest of the alliance.

Here’s the problem with Shelli’s and Clay’s and now Austin’s attempts at damage control. Whichever one stays, by going after their alliance like this, they’re just potentially creating enemies they didn’t have before.

James would rather get rid of Shelli, but it’s not his side of the house that is controlling the vote. Would it really be that bad if Clay went home instead, though? Shelli may be the stronger player, but he’s a physical threat and either way you at least split up the pair that has been controlling the game. Of course, for all the talk about how Clay going home would be the worst case scenario, James did something most others have been too dumb to do when they tried to be “clever”. He nominated only people he wanted to see go home, not messing around with pawns.

As for Clay, his plea to stay does not exist. He asks for them to keep Shelli.

Votes
Vanessa: Clay
Meg: Clay
Austin: Clay
Jackie: Clay
Liz: Clay
Julia: Clay
Steve: Clay
Becky: Clay
John: Clay

By a vote of 9-0, Clay has been evicted from the Big Brother house. Of course, it can be pointed out that going against the rest of the house last week was the catalyst for this eviction, but ultimately Clay’s elimination comes in no small part from the fact that he gave up.

They begin the HOH competition where they run back and forth transferring liquid from one side to the other.

Big Brother 17 Episode 19

Shelli made a deal with James to keep herself and Clay safe in Big Brother 17 Episode 18. That lasted about two seconds, and in the end, Shelli and Clay were nominated.

After the nominations, Clay starts talking smack to James. Shelli tries to put the leash on him. Of course, Shelli’s mouth was the one running during the ceremony, which only served to harm her. After they calm down, she starts asking why they are the ones to blame for the decision they drove, not their allies. And then Vanessa walks in, leaving in tears and unable to stand people.

James provides an excellent calm and rational explanation to Shelli and Clay for his nominations. They can say whatever they want, but the Jason vote wouldn’t have happened if they shot it down.

Vanessa’s willing to forgive and forget, but Austin doesn’t care. He just wants to go to jury with Liz.

James picks Jackie (houseguest’s choice) to play in the veto competition. Shelli selects Becky at random. Clay selects Vanessa. One person from one side, one person from the other side, and someone somewhere in the middle.

They start off on a spinning platform and must shoot darts to try to not get the lowest number. Jackie loses the first round and receives the power of veto. Shelli will wear the armitard all week long, but she trades it for the veto. Vanessa wins an Ireland castle vacation and keeps it. Clay may not leave the side of the knight (Jackie) for 24 hours, which he trades for the trip to Ireland, sticking Vanessa with Jackie, which does not seem strategically sound. Becky wins and keeps $5,000. James wins the ability to complete the swordsman training regimen 2400 times in 24 hours, which according to John is the equivalent of 30 miles of walking. Well, that’s another dumb “prize”, which he’ll obviously pass up, and he takes the veto from Shelli.

John would like to know why Meg and Clay aren’t staying off each other. Shelli’s body isn’t even cold yet.

Clay and Shelli have one final chance to convince James to save them. Time to throw Austin under the bus again or more specifically, his alter ego Judas. But if they really wanted him out, they had that chance last week. Apparently, he was trustworthy enough to save last week. Why not now?

James decides not to use the power of veto, but the power has provided him some interesting information about Austin.

Big Brother 17 Episode 18

All the drama of the prior week led up to a rather uneventful eviction, as Jason was eliminated in Big Brother 17 Episode 17. We left off at the start of an endurance competition for HOH, the first individual HOH competition of the season now that the battle of the block is dead.

After 25 minutes, Steve falls, and Austin is right behind him, saying goodbye to Liz’s shameless offer of a kiss if he were to win. Julia and Meg are next. Jackie falls after 1 hour and 28 minutes. Liz is the next to fall. Becky is next. Then Clay.

After begging Clay to hold on, Shelli starts talking about how she’s not sure she wants to win again anyway. She makes a deal: safety for herself and Clay. Not Vanessa or anyone else in the alliance. As they’re talking, James says John is good anyway, so John jumps off. After James agrees to keep her and Clay safe, Shelli drops. James wins HOH.

Julia confronts Liz about Austin being shady. Liz believes Jason twisted everything, but Julia is not buying it.

James may have made a deal with Shelli, but it’s not sitting well with him. They want to get rid of her anyway because she’s the queen of that side of the house. They think Becky’s on their side, but she tells Shelli and Clay who their target is.

Vanessa’s not willing to stick her neck out for Shelli this week. For their part, Shelli and Clay wouldn’t mind Austin going home.

Nominations
Clay
Shelli

James has decided not to mess around with pawns. He goes right after the targets instead.

Shelli denies any involvement in last week’s nomination of Jason, a statement that Vanessa logically views as throwing her under the bus. They’re not helping their case by speaking during the nomination ceremony.

Big Brother 17 Episode 17

All the talk about backdooring Austin amounted to just that, talk, in Big Brother 17 Episode 16, as the actual replacement nominee to go against Becky turned out to be Jason.

There’s a lot of emotion in the house following the veto ceremony, but Jason notices who’s not upset: Shelli and Clay. Their plan was to make Vanessa the bad guy, but perhaps they will not escape unscathed.

There is also a lot of surprise. Apparently, there was some belief in a final 8 alliance. Yeah, with 12 people left in the house, a final 8 really works. Even this concept of a final 6 is silly, as we have seen this week. Those in power play dumb, all denying responsibility.

Jason can easily get 3 votes, which means they would need one of the pairs in order to save him. He approaches Shelli to try to make her and Clay paranoid. He pretends that Becky is coming after them. More bad lies.

Votes
Austin: Jason
Meg: Becky
Liz: Jason
James: Becky
Steve: Jason
Jackie: Jason
Shelli: Jason
Clay: Jason
John: Jason

As split as the house is, the vote still doesn’t show it. By a vote of 7-2, Jason has been evicted from the Big Brother house.

Some of these people know how to play the game when talking to evicted houseguests, who history has shown can always come back in the house. Then there are people like Liz, who is a bitch to Jason in her goodbye.

It has been 5 weeks, so it’s time to reveal the “twin twist”. Shocking. Nobody saw this coming. For weeks.

One more bit of news: the battle of the block twist is also over.

The first single HOH competition of the season is an endurance one. They will have to hang on to the crumbling cliff for as long as they can.

Big Brother 17 Episode 16

Vanessa was convinced that she came up with the perfect plan in Big Brother 17 Episode 15. Except for the part where she didn’t let enough people in on the plan and put Clay in a spelling competition for her. Jackie’s nominations James and Liz won the battle of the block, leaving Clay (who volunteered) and Becky in danger.

Liz suspects James tried to throw that. Austin thinks Vanessa needs to know. Oh, she knows.

Speaking of Liz and Austin, she’s been leading him on, and it’s getting really awkward, as he pursues unwanted kissing.

Vanessa picks Shelli to compete in the veto competition (houseguest’s choice). Clay picks John at random. Becky picks Liz.

Their task is to toss giant nuts back and forth across a ramp and catch them on the other side. They have to do this 250 times in a row. Clay jumps out to a big lead, although who is in the lead is not necessarily relevant since all they have to do is drop once to be reset back to 0. In the end, Clay hangs on to win pretty easily.

Now it’s time to tell Liz what is happening. She trusts that Austin never had any intention of harming her game. That is true. She also trusts that he never had any intention of harming her sister’s game. That’s where she is wrong.

Then Vanessa has to confront Austin. He insists she can trust him. Perhaps she can, but doing so has been shown to be problematic. In this process, she pushes it back on the house, saying she must do it after having given her word.

His next move is to see if he can get Shelli and Clay back on his side. If Vanessa really wanted Austin to go, she wouldn’t have given him this warning, so she’s opened up a door. Shelli and Clay know that this makes her a bigger target, but that doesn’t matter to them. Their concern is that Austin is a number. Keeping him and shifting the target from themselves to her works out perfectly for them.

Clay uses the power of veto on himself. In his place, Jason is nominated as the replacement. Vanessa played this all wrong, and aside from Jason, she’s the person it is most likely to burn.
