The Amazing Race 23 Winners

Posted by Shane on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at 7:45 pm

Leo & Jamal were non-eliminated in The Amazing Race 23 Episode 10, though they would have deserved to have been, setting the stage for tonight’s final four showdown to determine the winner.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Jason & Amy
Second: Tim & Marie - 2:25AM
Third: Travis & Nicole - 2:26AM
Fourth: Leo & Jamal - 3:19AM

Teams must now fly to Tokyo, Japan. Based on the departure time, everybody should be on the same flight. Worst case scenario is that some teams are 10 minutes behind. Arriving at the airport first, the three teams who are not Leo & Jamal agree to work together as a team of six. Ironically, Leo & Jamal somehow end up on the first flight, giving them a slight advantage over the others, which turns out to be worth a 5 minute head start.

The detour is a choice between knock it down or call it up. In knock it down, teams will participate in a wacky Japanese game show called Human Bowling. In call it up, teams dive into phone booths filled with fish to get a phone message.

Knock it down: Leo & Jamal, Tim & Marie
Call it up: Jason & Amy, Travis & Nicole

Despite the fact that the three teams are supposedly working together, Nicole & Travis and Jason & Amy plot at the detour to lose Tim & Marie because only two teams can partcipate in the detour at a time. Unbeknownst to them, Tim & Marie aren’t even doing the same detour, but they realize what’s happening as they see the others dash in the opposite direction.

Knock it down provides an opportunity for Leo & Jamal to be loud and obnoxious and for Tim and Marie to talk about hating each other. That’s new. The other detour puts Amy in a speedo. And Travis, too.

Leo & Jamal must complete a speed bump, in which they must capture two people dressed as a rhino. This should eat into that 5 minute lead they had.

The road block gives teams a chance to build a robot.

Road block (in order of arrival): Amy, Nicole, Leo, Marie

Amy and Nicole agree to work together at the road block. It’s here they find out that Leo & Jamal actually beat them there and were slghtly ahead, rather than missing their flight like everybody hoped. When she arrives in last place and asks where the model robot is that they are supposed to be looking at, Marie gets ignored by Nicole and Amy, no matter how much she yells. Leo helps her instead.

Meanwhile, Amy and Nicole are literally doing each other’s tasks. How is this not a violation of the rules? Not that it matters too much because neither of them seems to know what they are doing, and Marie jumps ahead of them, saying thanks a lot for the help as she leaves, while Travis mocks his wife for being weak. Eventually, Amy figures out what’s wrong, but she stays behind once again to help Nicole recover, while Jay gets annoyed. After about 10 minutes of helping Nicole, Amy leaves her behind to fend off Leo, who likewise is struggling. Her placing third is not good enough for Travis, who berates her as they leave the road block.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is Konno Hachimangu Shrine.

First: Tim & Marie (win a trip to Aruba)
Second: Jason & Amy
Third: Nicole & Travis
Eliminated: Leo & Jamal

Completing the road block last, Leo & Jamal have been eliminated. Placing first again, Tim & Marie agree to put this trip and their Hawaii trip into a hat and go on them separately.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

Tim & Marie: 6:08AM
Jason & Amy: 6:15AM
Nicole & Travis: 6:22AM

Their final destination is Juneau, Alaska. All teams are on the same flight.

Marie explains that she has a contract, which Tim agreed to sign, that grants her a 60/40 split of any prizes they win. They are here for the money, not the relationship, since they hate each other.

Having carried a team that otherwise probably would have been eliminated by now, Jason & Amy discuss how all bets are off, and they will no longer help each other in the final leg. At the end of the day, despite how stupid it may have seemed that she was helping people as she limped along close to elimination, they are now competing with a team that on more than one occasion has come close to falling apart.

The road block requires teams to simulate a supply drop, hitting a target from a flying plane.

Road block (in order of arrival): Nicole, Amy, Marie

This is the type of task that’s bound to be a lot of trial and error with results that may be largely luck. Amy gets it on her second try. The other two are far more hopeless. Marie gets it on her 12th attempt. After 21 attempts, Nicole finally does it.

Teams must helicopter to a glacier and take place in an ice expedition. They have to rapel down the glacier, cross a ladder connecting the two sides, then climb their way up the other side. Then they’ll have to chip away in the ice for clues, most of which say try again.

From there, teams must paddle a tandem kayak to the marked island. This clue sends them via helicopter back to Juneau.

Their final task is to build totem poles spelling out the name of the currency from each place they went to. Amy took a lot of notes, but currency was not one thing she noted. Tim & Marie say they remember all but one, which they hope to remember by process of elimination. Nicole & Travis even manage to catch up to the lead teams. This seems like their kind of challenge, but they’re pretty far behind.

The end of North Douglas Hwy is the finish line for the race. It’s really hard to root for anybody other than Jason & Amy. Tim & Marie are a strong team, but they hate each other (in addition to her generally hating everybody). When they were winning, Travis & Nicole were likeable, but he’s become increasingly hostile over the course of the past couple legs.

The Amazing Race 23 winners are Jason & Amy. Tim & Marie place second. Then Travis & Nicole come in third. The results were already determined at the road block, and the rest of the episode was largely a formality.

The Amazing Race 24 will be returning in February. They are dubbing it The Amazing Race All Stars, for lack of a better word. They should just borrow a page out of The Biggest Loser’s book at call it The Amazing Race: Second Chances.

The Amazing Race 23 Episode 10

Posted by Shane on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at 9:06 pm

Despite being at the front of the pack on the train, Ally & Ashley fell behind on the detour in The Amazing Race 23 Episode 9 and were eliminated.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Leo & Jamal
Second: Tim & Marie - 7:26AM
Third: Jason & Amy - 7:40AM
Fourth: Nicole & Travis - 7:42AM

They will now head to eat some king cobra. Each member will need to eat their own serving. When they arrive, they get a glimpse at their upcoming meal as the live snakes greet them. For the most part, this seems to be a pretty simple task. Everybody is grossed out, but nobody is gagging and throwing up. This has nothing on gross eating challenges of the past. Before they can even get to this task that Marie is most squeamish about, Tim & Marie go to the wrong place and wander around aimlessly for a while. Marie struggles some, but she doesn’t have much trouble either.

The road block requires them to cook a dozen hard boiled eggs in the hot springs.

Road block (in order of arrival): Jamal, Travis, Jason, Marie

Travis and Jason stay there for about 8 minutes, but it’s not long enough. Jamal decides to be safe and stay an extra 2 minutes, but that’s not long enough either. On their second attempt, Travis and Jason stay for 20 minutes. As they are leaving, Marie arrives, and Tim knows that the key requirement (patience) is not something that describes her. Unlike the others, she doesn’t even have a watch, but that doesn’t matter because it takes her a while to even figure out that the eggs go in the water rather than above it. For all the drama of not knowing what she’s doing, she is the only one to get it right on the first try.

Right from here, we go to the detour, which is a choice between paint your partner or turn over a new leaf. In paint your partner, they will make each other up as traditional Japanese brides. In turn over a new leaf, they will search the tea fields for a pair of clipping sheers.

Paint your partner: Jason & Amy, Travis & Nicole, Tim & Marie
Turn over a new leaf: Leo & Jamal (switched from turn over a new leaf to paint your partner and back)

Travis & Nicole just tailgate Jason & Amy because they figure she’s a makeup expert. Leo & Jamal do the searching task, which is just asking for trouble. Marie knows to avoid the searching, though she doesn’t wear makeup. Leo & Jamal finally realize their choice is futile and switch. When they realize they have to put makeup on and worse yet shave, they switch back, however. The good news for them is that, although Jason & Amy look great, the other teams are terrible, particularly Travis.

They descend 500 steps to the waterfall that is the pit stop for this leg of the race.

First: Jason & Amy (win a trip to Cancun)
Second: Tim & Marie
Third: Travis & Nicole
Non-eliminated: Leo & Jamal

Despite their stupid detour choice, Leo & Jamal have been saved by non-elimination.

The Amazing Race 23 Episode 9

Posted by Shane on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 7:45 pm

After being U-turned by Tim & Marie in The Amazing Race 23 Episode 8, one of the least threatening teams bowed out of the race, as Nicky & Kim were eliminated.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Nicole & Travis - 12:38AM
Second: Jason & Amy - 12:52AM
Third: Tim & Marie - 1:15AM
Fourth: Leo & Jamal - 2:06AM (slept in)
Fifth: Ally & Ashley - 2:06AM

Jason & Amy have decided they want to keep working with Nicole & Travis. Marie remains delusional and argumentative even with her own partner. Leo & Jamal find out the reason they were U-turned: they lied about having used the U-turn themselves.

Teams will now fly more than 4000 miles to Bandung, Indonesia. Everybody will be on the only flight.

Their first task is to pick up two rams, watch them butt heads in a ram head butting arena, and load them back on the truck. They will then travel by train back to where they came from.

First train: Ally & Ashley, Travis & Nicole, Leo & Jamal
Second train (1 hour later): Jason & Amy, Tim & Marie

The detour is a choice between for the elephants or for the birds. For the elephants requires them to pick up food from a market, transport it on hand trolleys, and feed the elephants. For the birds requires them to pick up birds, bring them to a competition arena, and get them to sing.

Elephants: Leo & Jamal, Ally & Ashley, Jason & Amy, Tim & Marie
Birds: Travis & Nicole

Ally & Ashley show up at their final destination rather than the place they are supposed to start. Being at the front of the pack didn’t last very long for them. Eventually, they get into a shouting match but still refuse to switch detours, despite being the only team whose taxi won’t let them transport the massive sugarcane, which effectively puts them in last place.

The road block requires teams to properly assemble an angklung, a traditional Indonesian instrument.

Road block (in order of arrival): Nicole, Leo, Amy, Tim, Ally

Nicole can’t figure it out, so she goes to the judging area to try to peek at Leo’s. His response is that she’s a hypocrite, so he takes his apart so she won’t see it. Tim, who it turns out was in chorus and is very musical, manages to leapfrog Nicole, but he ends up a minute behind the lead team. Then Amy passes Nicole, too. Jason insists that Amy go back to help Nicole, then he gets frustrated that she takes too long to help. Not only did they just screw themselves in the event they end up getting lost, but it also would have been smarter to let them get knocked out in favor of the weaker team. This is the failure of the concept of an alliance on this race. Help people when you can… but not to your own detriment.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is Bosscha Observatory.

First: Leo & Jamal (win $7500 each)
Second: Tim & Marie
Third: Jason & Amy
Fourth: Nicole & Travis
Eliminated: Ally & Ashley

I expected things to come down to the train ride, but these teams completely blew that expectation apart. Having fallen behind on the detour, Ally & Ashley have been eliminated.

The Amazing Race 23 Episode 8

Posted by Shane on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 7:52 pm

After finishing the detour last, Nick & Kim were last to the mat in The Amazing Race 23 Episode 7 but were saved by non-elimination.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Leo & Jamal - 7:10AM
Second: Jason & Amy - 7:15AM
Third: Nicole & Travis - 7:23AM
Fourth: Tim & Marie - 7:44AM
Fifth: Ally & Ashley - 7:53AM
Sixth: Nicky & Kim- 8:02AM

Teams must now drive themselves to the sand dunes, and they are provided $1 for this leg of the race, which means they aren’t going anywhere.

Once they arrive at the sand dunes, they get on dune buggies and follow the flags into the desert. Easier said than done. Leo & Jamal do fine, but Nicole & Travis get stuck for a bit. Jason and Tim don’t have any problems, and then the ice girls do okay, too. Unlike Nicole & Travis, who managed to get out of the dirt with a little effort, Nicky & Kim end up needing a replacement vehicle.

The detour is a choice between wedding guests or beauty contest. In wedding guests, they must prepare a traditional ceremonial meal. In beauty contest, they must pick a champion among the beauty queens (camels).

Wedding guests: Nicky & Kim
Beauty contest: Tim & Marie, Jason & Amy, Ally & Ashley, Leo & Jamal (switched from wedding guests)

Most of the women opt for the beauty contest, assuming they will be dressing up other women. The concept of camels being beautiful and having nice little humps seems absurd, though I suppose no worse than people who put clothing on their dogs. Seeing Tim & Marie finished first convinces Leo & Jamal to join the group.

Having already decided to use their express pass before the leg began, Nicole & Travis bypass the detour before it starts. They U-turn Leo & Jamal because they lied about previously using the U-turn. Feeling as if they have been spared, Jason & Amy decline to U-turn anybody. Having used their U-turn before, Leo & Jamal can’t use it now. Despite being in a good position, Tim & Marie U-turn Nicky & Kim, saying it’s because of the little “stunt” they pulled at the airport, still upset they were smarter than them and pre-arranged standby.

Factor in already being in last, their speed bump, and having to do a second detour, and it’s a foregone conclusion how this leg will end. Don’t even bother trying to edit it like they have a chance because nobody is going to be fooled. I’m not buying how Ally & Ashley are lost.

Before the road block, Nicky & Kim must complete their speed bump, making their way across a wave generating pool, which creates a 6 foot wave every 90 seconds.

The road block requires teams to navigate the world’s largest man made rapids, collecting flags as they go.

Road block (in order of arrival): Nicole, Jason, Tim, Jamal, Ashley, Nicky

The pit stop for this leg of the race is Jebel Hafeet.

First: Nicole & Travis (win a Ford each)
Second: Jason & Amy
Third: Tim & Marie
Fourth: Leo & Jamal
Fifth: Ally & Ashley
Eliminated: Nicky & Kim

They might have made a good run at it if they weren’t U-turned, but the third time is a charm as Nicky & Kim have been eliminated. Marie felt good getting her “revenge” on them, but this seems to be the most pointless U-turn ever.

The Amazing Race 23 Episode 7

Posted by Shane on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at 8:22 pm

As the last team to depart from the singing road block in The Amazing Race 23 Episode 6, Tim & Danny were eliminated.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Nicole & Travis - 12:03PM
Second: Nicky & Kim - 12:09PM
Third: Leo & Jamal - 12:10PM
Fourth: Tim & Marie - 12:23PM
Fifth: Jason & Amy - 12:28PM
Sixth: Ally & Ashley - 1:00PM

Teams wil now fly to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. All teams are bunched together already, as the last leg seemed pretty simple.

First flight (arrives 5:50AM): Leo & Jamal
Second flight (arrives 6:00AM): Nicole & Travis, Nicky & Kim, Tim & Marie, Jason & Amy, Ally & Ashley

As the only team smart enough to book their own tickets before heading to the counter, Leo & Jamal have a 10 minute lead over everyone else, in addition to the fact that they speak some Arabic. Plus their first destination is a mosque, so of course this presents an opportunity to pray to god to ask about coming in first.

While at the airport, Jason and Tim kiss and make up, or at least they are keeping up the pretenses of doing so. Tim explains that dudes don’t stay mad at each other for more than 10 minutes.

The detour is a choice between sort it out or sew it up. In sort it out, they have to search through a variety of dates and create an elaborate display. Sew it up requires them to assemble a traditional fishing net. Unlike last week, both detours sound potentially difficult. The fishing task is outside in the sweltering heat, though, and that alone makes it seem the worse choice. However, this risk of suffering in the sun for an hour or two may potentially pay off as far as being the quicker task.

Sew it up: Nicole & Travis, Jason & Amy
Sort it out: Leo & Jamal, Tim & Marie, Ally & Ashley, Nicky & Kim

Nicky & Kim find the “secret” stash of other dates that nobody else is smart enough to notice. Leo & Jamal spot this and ask for their help, but they refuse. The reason they give for this is because Leo & Jamal have big mouths and will tell everybody, which is exactly what happens when they finally figure it out. Then they keep yelling and not shutting up the entire rest of the leg. Now that everybody knows, Nicky & Kim are left eating their dust. They are far enough behind that the other teams bail on them about 30 seconds before they reach the boat, putting them in last place by 15 minutes.

The road block requires teams to rapel 200 feet and get into a race car with a professional driver, keeping their eyes peeled for the name and time of the record holder. If they are incorrect, they will have to take another lap.

Road block (in order of arrival): Leo, Jason, Travis, Marie, Ally, Kim

The pit stop for this leg of the race is the champions podium at the race track, and based on the difficulty (or lack thereof) of this task, it seems Nicky & Kim will come in last, even though Ally does keep it a little interesting by being seemingly unable to understand the task for multiple laps. The good news for them is we’re about due for non-elimination.

First: Leo & Jamal (win a trip to Paris)
Second: Jason & Amy
Third: Nicole & Travis
Fourth: Tim & Marie
Fifth: Ally & Ashley
Non-eliminated: Nicky & Kim

Unsurprisingly, Nicky & Kim place last but are saved by non-elimination.

The Amazing Race 23 Episode 6

Posted by Shane on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at 8:15 pm

Brandon & Adam switched detours in The Amazing Race 23 Episode 5, and it was all downhill from there, culminating in their elimination after a double U-turn.

Teams depart in the order on which they arrived.

First: Tim & Marie - 8:33AM
Second: Jason & Amy - 8:34AM
Third: Nicole & Travis - 8:35AM
Fourth: Nicky & Kim - 8:48AM
Fifth: Tim & Danny - 8:51AM
Sixth: Leo & Jamal - 10:10AM
Seventh: Ally & Ashley - 10:18AM

Teams will now travel by rail 640 miles to Vienna, Austria. The trailing two teams are on a later departing train, but all teams have the same connecting train in Warsaw.

Leo & Jamal pretend they didn’t U-turn anybody, a lie that nobody believes. It would have been dumb of them to not U-turn somebody, even if their race wives ended up placing behind them anyway.

The detour at the opera house is a choice between light brigade or masquerade. In light brigade, they will need to assemble a chandelier. In masquerade, they will need to match the masks they are wearing with those of a dancing couple.

Maquerade: Leo & Jamal, Ally & Ashley, Tim & Marie, Nicky & Kim, Tim & Danny, Nicole & Travis, Jason & Amy

Nicole & Travis and Jason & Amy go for the fast forward, but Nicole & Travis realize that Jason & Amy are ahead of them and change their minds en route. They are warned on the clue that this is weather dependent. Although it is pleasant outside, it’s too windy for their 500 foot bungee jump. They now have to decide whether they want to stick around until the winds die down. Jason agrees with what he calls a dumb decision by Amy to wait. Eventually, they accept that they will not be able to jump today, returning to the race in last place

Not a single team shows interest in assembling the chandelier. The mask detour seems simple enough and very fast, though they all make some mistakes due to similar looking masks.

The road block requires teams to join the Vienna Boys Choir and learn how to sing a song in German. They will be judged on musicality and pronunciation.

Road block (in order of arrival): Leo, Ally, Nicky, Tim, Travis, Tim, Amy

Some of these teams would have enough trouble singing in English, let alone having to learn a song in another language. The boys in the choir struggle to keep a straight face. Travis is the first to finish on his second attempt, and if his rough performance is any indication, the bar isn’t set terribly high. Nicky confirms this with her complete inability to carry a tune, getting by mostly on her pronunciation. Tim and Ally struggle the most with the language, which makes the last place fight between them. It takes each of them five attempts to skate by.

Jason & Amy kept their cab driver waiting, but he doesn’t want to wait any more. He decides to remove their bags so that Nicky & Kim can get in instead. They’re allowed to steal the cab if they have no part in the bag removal. They decline to take the cab anyway, but Tim & Marie are not so noble. Going a step further, Marie wants to blame Leo & Jamal, who finished just before them. The silly thing about this is it’s not like it’s hard to get a cab here, and Jason & Amy lose no ground as a result. Because they’re not far behind, they learn at the pit stop who stole their cab, and shouting ensues.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is The Gloriette.

First: Nicole & Travis (win a trip to Anguilla)
Second: Nicky & Kim
Third: Leo & Jamal
Fourth: Tim & Marie
Fifth: Jason & Amy
Sixth: Ally & Ashley
Eliminated: Tim & Danny

With the detour being so easy, it all came down to the road block. As the last team to leave that challenge, Tim & Danny have been eliminated.

The Amazing Race 23 Episode 5

Posted by Shane on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 6:45 pm

It seemed like a lost cause for the baseball wives in The Amazing Race 23 Episode 4, though Tim & Marie’s stupid decision to ignore their clue was helping keep things somewhat interesting. Regardless, it was a to be continued leg.

Their next destination via boat and plane is Gdansk, Poland, more than 1500 miles away. The boat leaves that night at 8:30, more than 14 hours after the lead team departs, allowing all all teams, including last place Nicky & Kim, to be bunched together.

On the boat, Tim & Marie agree to quietly give the express pass to Nicole & Travis. They hope this subtle exchange still will allow them to trick other teams into helping.

Multiple teams are having the biggest taxi meltdown of the season, struggling to find multiple destinations. Three teams (Tim & Marie, Leo & Jamal, and Ally & Ashley) are all together, and none of them have a clue where they are.

The detour is a choice between pose and polka. In pose, teams must copy the stance of a historic statue to earn donations from spectators. Polka requires them to learn a dance routine, and the all male teams will have to determine which team member will wear a dress.

Polka: Tim & Danny, Nicole & Travis, Nicky & Kim, Brandon & Adam, Ally & Ashley, Leo & Jamal, Brandon & Adam (switched from pose)
Pose: Nicky & Kim, Tim & Marie

Being attractive is no use to Nicky & Kim because they’re covered almost entirely from head to toe. So they resort to begging instead in what seems to be the easier of the two challenges. Not willing (or smart enough) to use the same tactic, Brandon & Adam have to switch.

In hopes of avoiding the U-turn, Tim & Marie use their express pass, though they are in fifth place at the time they use it. Seems to be an unnecessary waste, but it makes sense to avoid a U-turn when you have made a habit out of making people your enemies.

Regardless of which task they choose, they must continue wearing their ridiculous costumes until the end of the leg.

After their first detour task, they run into a double U-Turn. Jason & Amy decline to use it. Making good time finding the U-Turn, Tim & Marie do as well, mostly because they’re unsure who may have passed them. Nicky & Kim don’t use it either. Tim & Danny U-turn Leo & Jamal, who they know for a fact are behind them. Seeing this, Nicole & Travis don’t need to follow suit. In turn, Leo & Jamal know Brandon & Adam, who stupidly switched detours, are behind them.

The road block requires them to visit the longest residential apartment building in Poland, which is over half a mile long and home to over 6000 residents. Their task is to go around and bite into pastries until they find a rose paczki, though by the end many of them are just tearing them apart with their hands, which apparently does not warrant a penalty.

Road block (in order of arrival): Marie, Amy, Kim, Travis, Danny, Ashley, Leo, Brandon

The pit stop for this leg of the race is Sopot Pier, the longest wooden pier in Europe.

First: Tim & Marie (win atrip to Hawaii)
Second: Jason & Amy
Third: Nicole & Travis
Fourth: Nicky & Kim
Fifth: Tim & Danny
Sixth: Leo & Jamal
Seventh: Ally & Ashley
Eliminated: Brandon & Adam

By switching detours on a double U-turn leg, Brandon & Adam all but guaranteed their own elimination.

The Amazing Race 23 Episode 4

Posted by Shane on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 6:59 pm

After Chester & Ephraim had multiple flight delays, there was no amount of editing that could hide the fact that they were going to be eliminated in The Amaing Race 23 Episode 3.

Teams depart in the order in which they arrived.

First: Nicole & Travis - 11:08PM
Second: Jason & Amy - 11:14PM
Third: Nicky & Kim
Fourth: Tim & Danny
Fifth: Brandon & Adam
Sixth: Leo & Jamal
Seventh: Ally & Ashley
Eighth: Tim & Marie

Teams must now travel more than 2000 miles by train and ferry to Svolvaer, Norway. Unlike the drama of last week, there is only one flight, so everybody will be bunched together. They arrive at 11:05 the following night, and the sun still has not set, nor will it apparently. Unlike most locations, this allows them to participate in a challenge right away rather than spend the night waiting. Of course, the potential problem this is creates is that there are few cabs, and most of the teams don’t want to run 1 mile.

The detour is a choice between hang your heads or hammer of the cods. In hang your heads, they must tie fish heads together and hang them out to dry. In hammer of the cods, they must collect 15 pairs of cod then pound them with a giant hammer to make 1 kilo of fish jerky.

Hang your heads: Brandon & Adam, Tim & Marie, Jason & Amy, Nicole & Travis, Leo & Jamal, Ally & Ashley
Hammer of the cods: Tim & Danny, Nicky & Kim

These two very physical tasks leave the two all female teams bringing up the rear. But Leo & Jamal pick a wheelbarrow with a flat tire, pushing them back behind the ice girls. Ultimately, the hammer task, where they must carry their fish rather than having a wheelbarrow to push them in, is the deciding factor in position, and the two teams who chose that stumble into last.

Throughout the task, Marie is being her usual self to both her partner and the other teams. Her threats about having an express pass don’t encourage Brandon & Adam to help her since she’s promised it to every other team, too.

On the other hand, Amy keeps stopping to help everybody, including Marie.

The road block is to jump off a bridge on a rope then disconnect and take an arctic plunge.

Road block (in order of arrival): Brandon, Jason, Tim, Nicole, Ashley, Jamal, Tim, Nicky

Their next task is to do an advertisment for Ford trucks by using one to pull a boulder. Surprisingly, this task proves to be a problem for some of the teams. Tim & Marie just drive away, saying there is no clue for their next destination, even though they were told in the clue that there is one. Nicole offers to help them in exchange for the express pass, which Marie is reluctant to do. Then there’s Ally & Ashley, who can’t drive stick, which is just stupid on this race because it will be a requirement sooner or later. Lucky for them, Danny helps them out, despite being in second to last.

The pit stop for this leg of the race is Viking Longhouse.

First: Brandon & Adam (win $5,000 each)

Though the baseball wives are completely hopeless and Tim & Marie are wandering around aimlessly, none of that matters since it’s a to be continued leg.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Amazing Race 23 Episode 5, which airs Sunday at 8/7c on CBS.
