The Biggest Loser Season 10 Episode 5

Yet another woman was sent home in The Biggest Loser Season 10 Episode 4 with the elimination of Burgandy.

At the conclusion of last week’s show, Corey, Anna, Montina, Sandy, and Shanna returned, with a warning that one of them will be making it on the show after all. The player with the highest percentage of weight loss will make it. The other four will be going back home.

Corey: 354 pounds (-37, 9.46%)
Shanna: 221 pounds (-21, 8.68%)
Montina: 270 pounds (-17, 5.92%)
Sandy: 235 pounds (-25, 9.65%)
Anna: 291 pounds (-39, 11.82%)

With her 11.82% weight loss, Anna is in the competition. Finally a woman who’s here to play?

We take a look at the weight losses so far.

Rick: 15.14%
Mark: 14.25%
Adam: 13.93%
Frado: 13.62%
Ada: 13.18%
Jesse: 13.01%
Brendan: 12.98%
Anna: 11.82%
Patrick: 11.00%
Aaron: 10.47%
Jessica: 9.93%
Lisa: 9.72%
Elizabeth: 8.61%

With those stats out of the way, it’s time to change the game again. We’re going blue vs. black. Welcome to campus, Anna. You are picking the teams. There will be 6 blue team members, 6 black team members, and 1 player on their own (with immunity for the week).

Anna goes to each contestant and asks which trainer they work well with. A lot of people tell her to take immunity for herself. I’d be hard pressed to come up with an argument against that.

Blue Team (Bob): Jessica, Aaron, Lisa, Mark, Jesse, Adam
Black Team (Jillian): Rick, Ada, Frado, Brendan, Elizabeth, Anna
Immune: Patrick

Rick asked to be with Bob, but he doesn’t seem too upset about the decision. Ada’s not happy that Elizabeth is on her team, since she is in last place for the season so far. Wanting to be with Jillian, Anna takes the last black shirt. Not only does she not get immunity, but she has managed to inadvertenly break up the alliance, for the time being anyway, leaving Patrick on his own.

During the first workout, Anna breaks down crying about how she failed. Well, that was an unexpected turn. She feels like a failure because she couldn’t save her son.

The wheels are turning on both teams because the losing team gets Patrick. Who wants him more? Who’s willing to throw the weigh in and get rid of a weaker link than him? Granted, as much as they talk about how great he is, his current position on the leaderboard is #9. Each team has weaker members, but he really hasn’t demonstrated much, although he certainly has the potential given his weight and age.

For their first challenge as blue and black, each team will visit 5 food stations throughout downtown LA. At each one, they will answer a trivia question about the food. They are allowed to ask as many questions as they like. If they get it right, they will receive a green card with directions to the next station. If they get it wrong, they will receive a red card, a penalty card, which will mean a physical challenge. Reward is 40 weeks worth of The Biggest Loser meal plan (a $7,000 value), an expensive prepared meal plan that nonetheless when it’s free should be great to have because of its time saving benefits. Additionally, they will get letters from home.

Which dish has fewer calories? Vegetable mosaic or crab salad?
Crab salad. I’d say the butter is the problem on the other one. Jesse is incorrect, but Elizabeth is right. As they run to the second one, Anna is having trouble catching her breath already.

Which dish has less fat? French fries or cheese balls?
French fries. Even with the fry dipping sauce, the cheese balls have plenty of things in them to create extra calories, such as whole milk. Anna is correct, but Aaron is not, resulting in another penalty card for the black team. The challenges will waste a bit of time, but they’re pretty quick things like 20 forward lunges.

Pick one cookie and one ice cream flavor to make the least amount of calories. Chocolate chip, ginger, oatmeal raisin; cinnamon, coffee toffee, peanut butter, strawberry, vanilla bean.
Ginger and vanilla ice cream. Frado is incorrect. So is Adam.

Which dish exceeds daily sodium by 60%? Pot stickers with soy sauce, buffalo wings, or calamari with tartar sauce.
Pot stickers. The thing that jumps out is soy sauce, a huge red flag. Brendan is incorrect, but Jessica is right.

Within 100 calories, how many calories are in the meat lasagne?
804. Ada says 1850. Mark says 1300 calories. This penalty is a little more intense: 21 flights of stairs.

Blue team’s a few flights behind in what is coming down to a stair climbing challenge. Ada’s the first to reach the top. But where’s Elizabeth? She’ll get there eventually. Black team wins the challenge. Brendan gives his letters to Lisa. Anna, too, offers her letters since she just got there (I’ve seen others before her get all emotional over letters after less than a week, as if that were a long time or something). Ada and Frado follow suit. Aaron, Adam, and Jessica get letters instead.

Black team tells Jillian that blue team plans to throw the weigh in, so it’s the blue team’s fault that the black team plans to do the same. She’s not buying it. They can play if they want, but she doesn’t want them to play dumb. All things being even, I would think the black team would have to throw this in order to lose because the blue team has the deck pretty well stacked against them. Jillian warns her girls about what the guys plan to do. As a team, they decide to not throw it. Let’s see if that actually happens. Anna says she’ll be angry if she gets voted out. She could have had immunity, if she wanted it.

Adam has chosen to not use his advantage, which will be worth 3 pounds next week if he’s still around.

Patrick: 346 pounds (-10, 2.81%, immune)

Jessica: 248 pounds (-6, 2.36%)
Mark: 352 pounds (-9, 2.49%)
Lisa: 252 pounds (-8, 3.08%)
Adam: 335 pounds (-11, 3.18%)
Aaron: 407 pounds (-12, 2.86%)
Jesse: 305 pounds (-16, 4.98%)
Blue Total: 1899 pounds (-62, 3.16%)

Frado says that, if there’s gameplay, it’s all good. Alison replies, “Not for someone.” Anna knows she’s the target if black team loses, although I would think the more logical target would be Elizabeth.

Anna: 286 pounds (-5, 1.72%)
Elizabeth: 218 pounds (-5, 2.24%)
Frado: 308 pounds (-9, 2.84%)
Ada: 215 pounds (-9, 4.02%)
Rick: 287 pounds (-10, 3.37%)
Brendan: 313 pounds (-2, 0.63%)
Black Total: 1627 pounds (-40, 2.40%)

Since they’ve lost anyway, the black team would have been better off throwing the weigh in to make things easier for last week. They didn’t do that, though, or at laest that’s how it seems (with everybody other than Brendan, who ended up looking like an ass). He swears on his goddaughter’s life he played it straight. Famous last reality TV words.

In spite of their win, the blue team’s not smiling (Adam notwithstanding) or for that matter celebrating at all.

With the highest percentage of weight loss on her team, Ada is safe.

Votes
Anna: Elizabeth
Elizabeth: Rick
Rick: Elizabeth
Ada: Rick
Brendan: Rick
Frado: Rick

With 4 votes, Rick is not The Biggest Loser. They just voted out the person who is the biggest loser of the season so far, a move that can’t possibly strengthen the team. From his starting weight of 350, Rick is down 120 pounds to a weight of 230. He’s a huge threat to win the at home prize.
