Survivor South Africa: Santa Carolina Episode 4

Survivor South Africa: Santa Carolina Episode 3 was the first episode of the season not to feature a crybaby quitter. Craig, whose tribe has not liked him since the beginning, ended up being the one to get the axe.

Lady Lea is worried that perhaps her tribe is not noticing that she’s bringing something to the table. She’s hoping that she can be a fisherperson, but it’s not working.

The reward challenge is beach golf with catapults and coconuts. Both tribes start off pretty terribly but improve quickly. Sort of. They both score at the same point on their first play through. Chibudu takes the lead 1-0 on the next go. Timbila then scores the next point to tie it 1-1. On the final point, Chibudu wins reward. Darren will be going to exile. Okkert will be joining Chibudu for the night. Their reward is Hein, the bushman who was the first person in the history of Survivor to start a fire without anything manmade. He’s got with him a tool and some fishing gear.

Gys feels threatened by Hein, who then decides to go off on his own to catch them some fish. He manages to catch 5 fish for them for breakfast. All of a sudden, their treatment of him becomes much more warm.

Darren’s looking forward to a day of chilling without the social stuff that’s going on at the other island. Now he, too, has a clue to the hidden immunity idol.

Both tribes will navigate their way across the water to a platform with a hole in it. At the bottom, there are puzzle pieces, which they must grab and bring back with them to the beach. Izak, Sandi, and Darren sit out for Timbila. Chibudu’s got a bit of a lead as they head to the platform. This lead grows pretty rapidly as Timbila aimlessly rows their boat around, unable to get it to the platform. This is quickly becoming a pointless challenge. Timbila finally makes it to the platform, but it’s all irrelevant. By the time Timbila makes their way back to the beach, Chibudu has already won immunity.

Despite the win, Okkert’s already planning ahead. He’d like to break up Gys, Hanna, and Sade by getting rid of one of the two girls.

Knowing his neck’s probably on the line, Darren goes to search for the idol. He finds something, which he assumes is immunity. He wants to target Louw, Ashley, and Izak. He suggests this to Lea, who is getting tired of him. This move would be in her best interest since it’s probably either going to be him or her, with the other one following next time.

The consensus of the tribe seems to be to vote for Darren. Unfortunately, in the South African version of the game, the idol gets played before the vote, so all they have to do is have a backup in mind, without the worrying about how best to split the votes. That said, Darren has decided to play his idol. Would have been far more interesting if he had played it afterward and took out one of the top guns with his lone vote.

Unable to get rid of Darren, the tribe has to settle for the elimination of Lady Lea. The completely out of the loop Lea tossed a vote ProVerb’s way.
