Survivor South Africa: Santa Carolina Episode 2 marked the second episode in a row in which two people went home. After being cleared by medical as having nothing wrong, Jub Jub still quit, claiming he had something wrong with his inner genitals. His tribe won immunity anyway, so Timbila decided they needed to take out a threat even though it’s still really early in the game, and Cindy got the axe.
Not that anybody liked him before, but the talk of Craig being useless is resurfacing. In his effort to prove he’s useful, he breaks their hook while fishing.
ProVerb refuses to carry a giant clam back to camp. He’s afraid of it and insists it made a shrieking sound.
Treemail tells them they need to pick someone strong and light as a feather. Assuming the other tribe will pick Izak, Sade volunteers, and she gets upset when GiGi suggests that her against Izak may not be a good match. Okkert would also like to volunteer, so they pick him. Timbila as expected chooses Izak apparently without much discussion or the amount of argument that went into the other tribe’s decision.
Izak and Okkert show up for the reward challenge. It’s a duel. They would have looked pretty stupid if they chose Sade. With Okkert, they at least have a fighting chance. They must knock their opponent off the beam. Pick n Pay has put together various food items. In a pitiful start, both of the guys fall off almost immediately with nobody actually being hit. When they get back up, Izak scores first. Then Okkert scores. Okkert scores again to take the lead 2-10. Then 3-1. Chibudu wins reward. Okkert’s given a choice between receiving the reward or the clue to the idol. If he takes the clue, Izak gets the food. Horrible trade. There would be no hiding that, and it would cost him the game sooner or later. Okkert declines the deal, opting instead for the food.
Izak beats himself up over the loss, and his tribe is not very helpful, suggesting that he didn’t have a chance anyway.
When Chibudu opens up the chest, Craig takes a handful of chips. We’ve seen people gets sent home for less.
Darren remains worried that he’s on the outside. That worry is warranted. Now that his role as chef has been threatened by Sandi, his stock just dropped.
At the immunity challenge, both tribes must pick one male and one female competitor to be their load bearers. They will continue to add weight until only one person is left standing. Sandi and Darren will load water for Timbila; Sandi and Sade will load for Chibudu. Louw and Lady Lea will be the load bearers for Timbila; Okkert and Hanna will be the load bearers for Chibudu. Louw and Okkert are targeted first. They start off with 8kg (17 pounds) and will be heading up to a maximum of 100kg (220 pounds). Louw and Okkert continue to receive the weight as the challenge continues. After several minutes, Okkert has 24kg, Louw 20kg, Lea 8kg, Hanna 4kg. 15 minutes in Okkert has 52kg, Louw 40kg, Lea 20kg, Hanna 8kg. It’s around this time that it looks as if Okkert’s getting ready to buckle. After 26 minutes, Darren tells his team they need to focus on Hanna because there’s no way Okkert is going to last much longer. The first person out of the challenge is actually Louw at 80kg. Okkert, meanwhile, continues to hold strong, strangely enough finding a way to stop holding the bar and just let it rest on his shoulders. He finally drops a few minutes later at 84kg. The girls are roughly even, so it’s a matter of who can hold it longer. Lea’s been holding more weight longer, but it’s ultimately Hanna who drops. Timbila wins immunity.
Everybody has been questioning Craig for a while, making this a good opportunity to get rid of him. Craig starts looking for the idol, but he left the clue with Kaseran, so it’s all fuzzy. What he does know is that it’s on their island somewhere. This is a bit of information he shares with GiGi.
Craig says that the wrong people were picked for that challenge. Maybe GiGi should have gone up instead of Hanna.
