18 new contestants, this time celebrities, make up the Survivor South Africa: Santa Carolina cast. In addition, Mark Bayly, who hosted the first two editions and was often accused of being too wooden, has now been replaced by actor Nico Panagio.
This season we head to Santa Carolina, an island off the coast of Mozambique in East Africa that was also called Paradise Island, now a deserted paradise.
Before being tossed overboard, 7 of the contestants are told that they’ll be receiving shoes and a machete, but no more. What they don’t know is that there actually are supplies in boxes written in Portuguese, which will be lugged by an additional group of contestants. Some of the boxes contain useful supplies; some contain junk. Hopefully there’s nothing explosive in these boxes that they’re throwing down sand dunes. Given how rough they’re being with them, they’re slowly finding out what’s inside. One box contains nothing. One has golf clubs… good luck finding a green area here.
The group of 11 who remain land a little ways away from Santa Carolina. After their trek through the desert, they are told that they will be taking a boat to the island. Well, some of them will. Two people will receives votes right now. This is not an anonymous vote.

Kaseran must have pissed somebody off, receiving the highest number of votes. Craig came in second last. Yeah, it’s all a trap. They will not be taking the boat. Instead, they will be flying there by helicopter, and they receive a note. When they arrive, Kaseran has decided he wants to vote out Craig, as he thought he had already done previously.
It turns out that the note leads them to a set of buffs. They are the leaders and will be able to choose their tribes. This allows Craig to believe he’s the boss. In a thoroughly chaotic picking ceremony that shows the producers have not quite found their way just yet, they choose the two tribes.
Timbila: Kaseran, Louw, Ashley, ProVerb, Lady Lea, Cindy, Darren, Sandi, Izak
Chibudu: Craig, Garth, Jub Jub, Christina, Sade, Hanna, Okkert, Gys, GiGi
The first bit of business is to fight over who gets to keep what supplies. Then one tribe heads north and the other goes south.
The immunity challenge is to hop on a platform and use a pulley to get across a platform, go to the tower and untie bags, tie the weighted bags so the tribe can swim under an obstacle, and swim to the beach where they will dig up their flag. Izak takes the lead for Timbila. Since he can begin untying and dropping bags before anybody else arrives, the other struggling tribe is losing a lot of ground. It becomes obvious pretty early what the end result of this challenge will be. Timbila wins immunity and flint.
Christina is crying about missing her daughter. Seriously? It’s day two. Day two. She wants to quit the game. The guys say the real reason is that island life is too tough for her, which she does not deny. Rather than wait until the tribal council that night and letting her tribe vote her out, she just walks away right then and there. Putz.
Craig, who already made a poor first impression, continues to rub his tribe the wrong way.
Meanwhile, Garth has injured an arm and a leg, but he refuses to go home unless they vote him out, unlike that quitter who already left. This may be Craig’s only hope of surviving another vote.

Due to his injury, Garth has been voted off the island. Since he wouldn’t have been able to get past his injury, they probably would have lost either him or Christina next episode anyway, so her quitting is now a moot point, aside from that it makes her look like a quitter.
