Survivor: The Australian Outback Episode 3

Kel was tried and convicted of having beef jerky witout any evidence other than Jerri’s word, which was enough to get him voted off the island in Survivor: The Australian Outback Episode 2.

Mike wants to go hunting for a pig. Nobody else is interested in participating. His plan is to build a spear. He really doesn’t know what he’s doing, but he will just make it up as he goes. Jeff hopes he loses the knife (their only knife) so he can go off on him.

Reward is an outback fishing package complete with line, hooks, lures, and a net. The challenge is for both tribes to get all the buckets of water loaded on the shoulders of the other tribe’s strongest member. One person will load the water on the opposing tribe’s water bearer, while the others run across a balance beam with buckets over their shoulders. Michael and Colby will be the water bearers. Rodger and Michael are the loaders. Amber is first across with Elisabeth behind her. Keith falls off, and Kimmi follows him in. Then the challenge gets all blurry as bucket after bucket makes its way across. Once they run out of buckets, it’s about who can hold on the longest. At least that’s the plan. They are each holding over 400 pounds. The individual aspect of this challenge is pretty rough this early in the show. Michael’s pole ends up breaking in half because it was not strong enough to hold that weight, so there is no winner yet. They will do a 5 minute timed race. The tribe that gets the most buckets on the other tribe’s water bearer wins. With 2 minutes left, they’re even at 10. Ogakor leads by 2 with 20 seconds remaining, and they retain their lead to win reward.

Now that they’ve got the proper equipment, they’re able to catch their first fish (granted, Michael was catching fish without this equipment). Jerri’s mostly just happy that Keith and Kel were wrong when they said there are no fish there. Now that they’ve caught some fish, it’s time to let Keith be the chef again. Colby noticed that Keith has merely played the role of instructor on how to cook fish, with many others looking on to see how they could do it themselves.

Elisabeth and Rodger are bonding right away. She’s going to protect him, whether it’s a wise idea or not. In his favor, his weak challenge performances may possibly be balanced by his outdoor knowledge.

Over on the other side, Maralyn and Tina are bonding because they are closer in age. Then there’s Jerri and Colby. She’s been crushing on him from the beginning, and he’s starting to like her no matter how much he hates her.

Jeff wants to go to the final four with Alicia, so they need to find two people to go with them that they could beat. They definitely don’t want to compete against Elisabeth, and they’re also concerned about Nick, who’s lazy anyway.

After a rough night of rain without much sleep, Ogakor’s worried how they will handle the immunity challenge. The challenge is an obstacle course. They will race through a log chute, down a steep sandslide into the river, through a series of obstacles on the other side, and then sprint to the finish line. The twist: they will be tethered as a team. Everybody from the winning tribe must finish, one way or another. The tribes are pretty even as they get to the river. Kucha overtakes Ogakor as Maralyn struggles with one of the obstacles. Colby decides to get behind her and start pushing. This helps a little, but it doesn’t look like Ogakor has any prayer. Then Rodger falls. Then Maralyn and Rodger both fall some more. In the end, Kucha edges out Ogakor to win immunity.

Ogakor realizes they made a stupid decision last time. Had they voted for Maralyn last week instead of Kel, they probably would have won. Now they know they have to get rid of Maralyn.

Jerri, Colby, Mitchell, Amber, and Tina have formed an alliance of sorts. That means they can choose between Keith or Maralyn, and voting Keith doesn’t make sense.

Keith has his own agenda. He’d like to keep Maralyn around, instead getting rid of Mitchell due to his work ethic at camp. He discusses this plan with Colby, believing he won’t tell anybody. Colby goes right to Mitchell to tell him what’s up.

Colby and Mitchell say it’s too early to trust anybody. Maralyn has decided they’re all her buddies, especially Tina. Jerri has bonded with Colby, Mitchell, and Amber.
