American Idol Season 8 Episode 31

Matt Giraud was saved by the judges in American Idol 8 Episode 30.

Tonight, the top 7 sing again. Let’s hope the producers have come up with a more competent plan to manage time.

This week’s theme is the 70’s and celebration of the disco era. There is no mentor and no clips of the contestants. Finally, after two weeks of sheer stupidity, they seem to have figured it out. Was it really this difficult?

Lil Rounds
Song: I’m Every Woman by Chaka Khan
Randy: Got the party started, but it sounded so wild to me. Didn’t really show your vocal control.
Kara: Not sure it was worth the wait. You’ve been every other woman but yourself on that stage.
Paula: In Lil’s defense, she had no voice yesterday. But didn’t hit quite the boiling point Chaka Khan did.
Simon: I think this is going to be the last week we’re ever going to see you.

Kris Allen
Song: She Works Hard for the Money by Donna Summer (playing guitar)
Kara: Took a real risk, and it paid off big time. Sounded like it could go on your record.
Paula: Not many men willing to shop in the women’s department. You shopped and found a perfect fit. That’s why you’re a contender.
Simon: Original, well thought out, not karaoke. Fantastic performance.
Randy: Proves that you are ready for the big time.

Danny Gokey
Song: September by Earth, Wind, & Fire
Randy: Really worked for you tonight.
Kara: Pitch is always so right on. Another solid performance.
Paula: One of the sexiest voices.
Simon: Can’t fault the vocals. Didn’t get any kind of star power from the performance. A bit awkward and clumsy.

Allison Iraheta
Song: Hot Stuff by Donna Summer
Randy: Didn’t love the arrangement, but you’re one of the best singers in this competition.
Kara: Agree with Randy on the arrangement, but you picked the right song. Also agree you’re one of the best singers.
Paula: Authentic edginess.
Simon: Brilliant performance.

Adam Lambert
Song: If I Can’t Have You by Yvonne Elliman
Randy: You are ready right now.
Kara: Brilliant. Most memorable performance. Inspiring.
Paula: Felt your pain and vulnerability. Fascinating, brilliant, awesome. Will be in the finals.
Simon: Original. Memorable. Immaculate vocals.

Matt Giraud
Song: Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees
Randy: Didn’t love the song choice or the arrangement, but you can really sing.
Kara: Vocals were pretty good.
Paula: This was a strike. Saved yourself tonight.
Simon: Didn’t like that performance. Came over as a bit desperate. Not great vocals. Didn’t hear any originality.

Anoop Desai
Song: Dim All the Lights by Donna Summer
Randy: You can sing also.
Kara: Great song choice. Sounded like it could actually be on the radio.
Paula: Real men know how to wear pink. Beautiful vocals.
Simon: Mediocre at best. Horrible version of that song. Your worst performance by a mile.

And we’re done in the 61 minute time frame. Well done. Only took three tries.
