American Idol Season 8 Episode 27

Megan Joy Corkrey went home in American Idol 8 Episode 26 after telling Simon she didn’t care.

Tonight’s theme is songs from the year the contestants were born.

Danny Gokey
Song: Stand by Me by Mickey Gilley
Randy: Did not love the arrangement, but you’re an amazing singer.
Kara: Just killed it at the end. Made it your own.
Paula: Opened the show setting the bar so high.
Simon: Beginning was good. Middle was lazy. End was terrific.

Kris Allen
Song: All She Wants to Do is Dance by Don Henley (playing guitar)
Kara: Very excited you picked up tempo, but that kind of felt like jazz funk homework.
Paula: Uniquely your own. One of the most likeable contestants ever.
Simon: Likeable contestant, yes. But indulgent, boring, forgettable. Came over as a guitarist who wanted to sing. Stupid song choice.
Randy: Arrangement was a little self indulgent. Lost you with all the other noise.

Lil Rounds
Song: What’s Love Got to Do with It? by Tina Turner
Paula: Not able to take the reigns. Becoming a beautiful karaoke rendition.
Simon: Second or third rate version of Tina Turner. Ghastly copycat performances. No idea who you are.
Randy: It’s almost like you’re not listening to us.
Kara: Need to make that leap from a singer to an artist. Your lower range really suffers.

Anoop Desai
Song: True Colors by Cyndi Lauper
Randy: You can actually sing. Very nice, controlled vocal.
Kara: You controlled the song. You did not let it control you. Pop song interpreted with soul, but not trying to be something you’re not.
Paula: Flawless choice of song.
Simon: Like a singing yoyo. Very good this week. Not fantastic, though.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-04

Scott MacIntyre
Song: The Search Is Over by Survivor (playing guitar)
Kara: Not sure I would have picked that song for you. Some good moments but also some off moments. Parts were too overambitious.
Paula: Give you credit for stepping away from the comfort zone of the piano. Not sure why you picked electric guitar. Some of the high notes came off a bit screeching.
Simon: Go back to the piano next week. Song was horrible. Guitar playing wasn’t much better. Weird. Paula’s advice was wrong.
Randy: Just all okay.

Allison Iraheta
Song: I Can’t Make You Love Me by Bonnie Raitt
Paula: Undeniably Allison. Can’t put a price tag on that.
Simon: Very good. Need to be more likeable, though.
Randy: Reminds me of Kelly Clarkson, but you need to engage the public more.
Kara: Talent. Let’s go make a record.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-06

Matt Giraud
Song: Part Time Lover by Stevie Wonder
Randy: Vocally one of the best of the night.
Kara: Incredible on every level.
Paula: Two words: standing O.
Simon: Million times better than last week. Well done.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-07

Adam Lambert
Song: Mad World by Tears for Fears
Simon: Words are unnecessary, but I’m going to give you a standing ovation.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-08

Simon’s the only one with time to discuss Adam’s performance. Next week, try to keep it under 61 minutes, Fox.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another recap of American Idol Season 8 episode 28, which airs Wednesday at 9/8c on Fox.
