After briefly getting down on one knee to propose to DeAnna Pappas in the finale of The Bachelorette 4, Jason Mesnick found out that she picked the other guy instead (who she dumped a few months later). Now he’s back and ready to find true love (again), and he’s the one in the driver’s seat with 25 girls to choose from. His son Ty will be with him during part of the process, along with his brother Larry.
The entirely too lengthy cast of 25 women will be narrowed down before he (or we) really has a chance to get to know most of them, with 10 being cut the first night. In addition to Jason having a kid, for the first time four of the bachelorettes also have children, including Stephanie, whose husband was killed in a plane crash three years ago.
Last season was all about trashing Brad at every opportunity over and over and over again (granted, he deserved some of it), but Jason seems to be okay with what happened, accepting it as a learning experience.
Sharon starts dancing with Jason when they meet. Naomi mentions her 14 month old son within about five seconds. Treasure is apparently a real name. Nicole picked her dress because Ty’s favorite color is orange. Canadian Jillian tells Jason it’s very important what his favorite hot dog topping is. Emily is from Washington like Jason is. Dental hygienist Shannon’s got some fake teeth with her.
Shannon knows a little too much about Jason, but she’s not a stalker. Honest. Dom sells (toe) implants. Megan doesn’t think some of these girls know what it’s like to be a mom. In an awkward moment, one of the girls reads Jason (and Nicole because she apparently can’t wait for Nicole to leave first) a poem she wrote. Jillian follows through on her hot dog test. Jason puts mustard on his hot dog, which apparently means he’s the type of guy they all want to settle down with.
Renee has vision boards, which she believes influence her life. Whatever she puts on them comes true because the universe is listening. A little creepy.
Raquel takes Jason outside to do some salsa dancing. Molly’s not having any of that. She jumps in and begins dancing with him herself. Molly already says that she’s ready to move to Seattle. While they’re talking, Raquel interrupts and steals him back.
Stephanie tells Jason her story about how she’s a widow, but she’s ready to love again.
Tonight there’s already a twist. Jason won’t be the one making the first decision. The women will vote for who they want to get rid of first. Let the cat fight begin.
After the voting, Jason makes his decision on the first impression rose. He gives it to Nikki, apparently because of how she looks.
Before the first rose ceremony, it’s time to reveal the results of the women’s vote. Jackie, who’s a bit drunk and not being overly careful with her words, received the third most votes. The second most votes went to Erica. With by far the most votes, Megan, who Jason said he felt a connection with, will be leaving tonight. With a rose. Somewhat lame twist, but I guess it’s better than the girls deciding which of the competition they want to target first. Before accepting her rose, Megan calls all the other girls a bleeped out word. As if we really need producer created drama.
Sharon resigned from her job to come to this show. Huh?

In the previews for the rest of the season, we see that DeAnna’s not happy that her 15 minutes of fame are done. She’ll be back for a third time. It seems she’s realized that she made a mistake last time and wants Jason back.
