Survivor production crews invaded Vunivutu, Fiji earlier this month to begin production on the next installation of the Survivor series, Survivor Fiji.
The 6-week production schedule is estimated to generate roughly $6-million in revenue for the community and Labasa’s economy. The production will create 230 job opportunities for local residents and a drastic increase to the economy as the 250 person production crew will need food, shelter and the essentials.
Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase was on site and launched the official start of the massive 6-week production.
To return the hospitality of their host’s the Survivor production crew held a cocktail party for government officials, businessmen and local villagers. A total of 200 people attended the cocktail party, which came to an early end at only 6:00pm.
The Audio Visual Commision, along with Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase, were hopeful when bidding for the opportunity to host the Survivor production crew. Securing the Survivor Fiji production deal falls perfectly in line with the governments “Look North” policy, which was created to spread the appeal of Fiji to other countries in an attempt to drive TV and movie filming business into the Fijian economy.
It is the Fijian governments hope that Survivor is only the first of many substantial productions to pick Fiji as a location for filming. Through the influx of film and TV productions, Fiji is also hoping to increase the tourism industry.
More information on the upcoming season of Survivor Fiji will be released as I get my grubby little paws on it. In the mean time, find out what’s happening in Survivor Cook Islands.
