While we were on the island to visit my grandparents in Port Alberni we took a quick trip up the east coast of Vancouver Island and stopped off at Horne Lake, where my aunt has a gorgeous brand new cabin on the edge of the lake and Campbell River, where my grandparents used to live, where most of my dads family currently lives and where I used to spend every summer vacation.
We snapped lots of pictures of Cameron Lake just outside Port Alberni, watched a bear walking beside the river in Port Alberni, enjoyed the view from the Pier in Campbell River, took in the results of the Campbell River wood carving competition and enjoyed the utter silence of Horne Lake.

On our way home from Vancouver Island we stopped at the West Vancouver SPCA to pick up our new kitty. The folks at the West Vancouver SPCA told us that they wouldn’t be able to hold him for us, which had me worried as we originally planned to pick him up on Wednesday but had to run to the island, but they assured us he would be there. Sure enough he was.
We’ve been working on names for the past two weeks or so, but after having him for a little bit we decided to stick with the name the West Vancouver SPCA gave him, Felix. I know, I know, not very original, but none of the names we had come up with fit quite as well as Felix. So now we have our very own Felix The Cat and he’s as happy as could be. He’s still spooked about a few little things, like door (yeah, weird), but he’s been out and about cruising the house, socializing and getting loved since yesterday and he’s going to be a fantastic cat. You’d never guess he’s 11 years old by how he acts and looks. Once we get a few of his mats cut out, get him combed out, get his nails trimmed and get him on some good food he’ll be rockin’ We both love him and he seems to like us too, yay kitty!
