Big Brother 17 Episode 18

All the drama of the prior week led up to a rather uneventful eviction, as Jason was eliminated in Big Brother 17 Episode 17. We left off at the start of an endurance competition for HOH, the first individual HOH competition of the season now that the battle of the block is dead.

After 25 minutes, Steve falls, and Austin is right behind him, saying goodbye to Liz’s shameless offer of a kiss if he were to win. Julia and Meg are next. Jackie falls after 1 hour and 28 minutes. Liz is the next to fall. Becky is next. Then Clay.

After begging Clay to hold on, Shelli starts talking about how she’s not sure she wants to win again anyway. She makes a deal: safety for herself and Clay. Not Vanessa or anyone else in the alliance. As they’re talking, James says John is good anyway, so John jumps off. After James agrees to keep her and Clay safe, Shelli drops. James wins HOH.

Julia confronts Liz about Austin being shady. Liz believes Jason twisted everything, but Julia is not buying it.

James may have made a deal with Shelli, but it’s not sitting well with him. They want to get rid of her anyway because she’s the queen of that side of the house. They think Becky’s on their side, but she tells Shelli and Clay who their target is.

Vanessa’s not willing to stick her neck out for Shelli this week. For their part, Shelli and Clay wouldn’t mind Austin going home.

Nominations
Clay
Shelli

James has decided not to mess around with pawns. He goes right after the targets instead.

Shelli denies any involvement in last week’s nomination of Jason, a statement that Vanessa logically views as throwing her under the bus. They’re not helping their case by speaking during the nomination ceremony.

Big Brother 17 Episode 17

All the talk about backdooring Austin amounted to just that, talk, in Big Brother 17 Episode 16, as the actual replacement nominee to go against Becky turned out to be Jason.

There’s a lot of emotion in the house following the veto ceremony, but Jason notices who’s not upset: Shelli and Clay. Their plan was to make Vanessa the bad guy, but perhaps they will not escape unscathed.

There is also a lot of surprise. Apparently, there was some belief in a final 8 alliance. Yeah, with 12 people left in the house, a final 8 really works. Even this concept of a final 6 is silly, as we have seen this week. Those in power play dumb, all denying responsibility.

Jason can easily get 3 votes, which means they would need one of the pairs in order to save him. He approaches Shelli to try to make her and Clay paranoid. He pretends that Becky is coming after them. More bad lies.

Votes
Austin: Jason
Meg: Becky
Liz: Jason
James: Becky
Steve: Jason
Jackie: Jason
Shelli: Jason
Clay: Jason
John: Jason

As split as the house is, the vote still doesn’t show it. By a vote of 7-2, Jason has been evicted from the Big Brother house.

Some of these people know how to play the game when talking to evicted houseguests, who history has shown can always come back in the house. Then there are people like Liz, who is a bitch to Jason in her goodbye.

It has been 5 weeks, so it’s time to reveal the “twin twist”. Shocking. Nobody saw this coming. For weeks.

One more bit of news: the battle of the block twist is also over.

The first single HOH competition of the season is an endurance one. They will have to hang on to the crumbling cliff for as long as they can.

Big Brother 17 Episode 16

Vanessa was convinced that she came up with the perfect plan in Big Brother 17 Episode 15. Except for the part where she didn’t let enough people in on the plan and put Clay in a spelling competition for her. Jackie’s nominations James and Liz won the battle of the block, leaving Clay (who volunteered) and Becky in danger.

Liz suspects James tried to throw that. Austin thinks Vanessa needs to know. Oh, she knows.

Speaking of Liz and Austin, she’s been leading him on, and it’s getting really awkward, as he pursues unwanted kissing.

Vanessa picks Shelli to compete in the veto competition (houseguest’s choice). Clay picks John at random. Becky picks Liz.

Their task is to toss giant nuts back and forth across a ramp and catch them on the other side. They have to do this 250 times in a row. Clay jumps out to a big lead, although who is in the lead is not necessarily relevant since all they have to do is drop once to be reset back to 0. In the end, Clay hangs on to win pretty easily.

Now it’s time to tell Liz what is happening. She trusts that Austin never had any intention of harming her game. That is true. She also trusts that he never had any intention of harming her sister’s game. That’s where she is wrong.

Then Vanessa has to confront Austin. He insists she can trust him. Perhaps she can, but doing so has been shown to be problematic. In this process, she pushes it back on the house, saying she must do it after having given her word.

His next move is to see if he can get Shelli and Clay back on his side. If Vanessa really wanted Austin to go, she wouldn’t have given him this warning, so she’s opened up a door. Shelli and Clay know that this makes her a bigger target, but that doesn’t matter to them. Their concern is that Austin is a number. Keeping him and shifting the target from themselves to her works out perfectly for them.

Clay uses the power of veto on himself. In his place, Jason is nominated as the replacement. Vanessa played this all wrong, and aside from Jason, she’s the person it is most likely to burn.

Big Brother 17 Episode 15

Audrey’s dreadful gameplay came to an end in Big Brother 17 Episode 14, then Jackie and Vanessa won HOH.

Vanessa’s been in or at least near power for a while, but Jackie has been pretty much invisible since shortly after her entry into the house.

Austin reveals to Jason what everybody knows. There is a set of twins in the house. Also, he likes one but not the other. He doesn’t know that neither really likes him. Jason tells Meg, and then they tell Shelli, who has to pretend to be surprised.

The only real surprise to her is that Austin’s telling secrets without clearing it with his alliance and also declaring that he’s fine with one of the twins being eliminated.

Vanessa asks Jackie where she’s at. That way, Jackie can tell her everything, and she can just play along. Jackie’s thoughts are Liz (who nominated her last week) and Steve. Oh, yeah, those are exactly Vanessa’s targets, too.

Vanessa is considering backdooring Austin. She needs to verify whether he’s the Judas she thinks he is, and ironically, that’s exactly who he is or at least is trying to be. When she asks him, he lies. So then she tells Julia.

Somewhere along the way, Clay decides to volunteer to go on the block. He wants to be nominated alongside Becky so they can win battle of the block. The next piece of the puzzle is nominating a pawn alongside Liz to throw the competition, and that would be James since he nominated Jackie.

There is almost nobody in the house who is not part of this plan to backdoor Austin. Of course, much of the house wouldn’t mind seeing one of the twins going either because if they don’t get rid of them next week, there are going to be two of them to deal with.

Jackie’s Nominations
James
Liz

Vanessa’s Nominations
Clay
Becky

No surprises here. Everything has gone as planned.

Having been in the house when all the drama went down, Julia does not reveal any of it to her sister.

The object of the battle of the block is to throw paint everywhere and spell out names of houseguests from BB16. As James is trying to throw it, Liz realizes she has to be the brains of this operation. In the end, by seconds, Liz and James pull out the win.

There’s all this talk about how they had this perfect plan in place, but apparently they did not, as this just blew up in everyone’s faces.

Big Brother 17 Episode 14

Audrey continued one of the most absurd paths of self destruction ever in Big Brother 17 Episode 13 and was finally placed on the block against John. I assume she meets her end tonight. I mean, there’s no way they’re getting rid of John, right?

It looks like they’re not going to edit it to try to make us think John is going home. Rather, Julie poses the question whether Audrey is just going to quit the game, which provides some important footage of Audrey ignoring everybody in the house for days and not fighting to stay.

It doesn’t end there. Audrey chose to violate the have not rules, resulting in a penalty vote. This is just a disaster. Slop may be a lame and seemingly pointless part of the game, but it’s something you agreed to do when you signed up. You can’t just do whatever the heck you feel like doing.

By a vote of 10-1, Audrey has been evicted from the Big Brother house. The lone vote in her favor was from Austin, who just wants to screw with the house. She started off the game with a bang because of her story, but her gameplay has been absolutely terrible. She can blame everybody else if she wants (like Da’Vonne before her), but she dug her own grave.

The HOH competition is to listen to songs and identify which type of competition they are about. There is no hiding in this. The split between the house becomes clear when they have to pick people to compete against each other, as it’s typically an indication of which people they won’t mind being eliminated.

Jason beats Steve and chooses John and Austin to go against each other. Austin wins and picks Jackie and Becky. Jackie wins and chooses Liz and Vanessa. Vanessa wins and selects Jackie and Meg. Jackie wins and picks Austin and James. James buzzes in immediately with a random 1/3 chance and wins, choosing Vanessa and Clay. Vanessa wins and picks James and Jackie, one of whom will win HOH. James makes a random guess again, and Jackie wins HOH. Vanessa beats Jason and is the second HOH.

Big Brother 17 Episode 13

Jason, the apparent target, and John, pawn for another week, lost the battle of the block in Big Brother 17 Episode 12 to Jackie and James.

Audrey’s pissed at Shelli because Shelli caught her in her lies. She tells James. He brings this information to Clay. Audrey just keeps digging herself in deeper and deeper. This has been going on for weeks, and she’s not learning. A for effort. D+ for effectiveness.

Shelli acknowledges that she handled her discussion with Jason incorrectly, but whether that’s the case, she’s the HOH who may need to choose a replacement nominee. Don’t go talking about her behind her back. This can wait a week or at least until after veto.

Shelli chooses Vanessa at random to play in the veto competition. John chooses Meg. Jason picks James (houseguest’s choice). Jason’s happy. He thinks people (like James) will save him. Shelli is happy that Audrey did not get picked.

Because she made promises to Audrey, Shelli does not like being in the position where she may potentially need to nominate her like everybody wants and has wanted for weeks. There’s a solution for that, or at least there was. Make sure Liz’s nominations lose so that she has to make the decision. Don’t nominate John and tell him to throw it as usual.

At BBside High, they will view videos with colored chemicals then pour the correct chemicals into their flasks. They are playing Saved by the Smell, complete with laugh track. Ugh. Everybody is correct on the first smell. James is out on the second. Shelli is eliminated on the third. Then Meg. Jason and John are next. Vanessa wins the power of veto.

Clay and Audrey get into a battle because the lies continue. She claims she never told him to swear on his life that she won’t be backdoored. Replaying the tape, she did. Her defense is that she doesn’t have a selective memory. That’s probably true. Just bad lies. Not content to leave this as is, she goes up to the HOH room, where the argument with Vanessa (the veto holder) begins.

It’s time for the veto meeting. Audrey has decided to pout in bed rather than participate. This is ridiculous. Vanessa uses the power of veto on Jason. In his place, Audrey has been nominated.

Big Brother 17 Episode 12

Jeff came closer than I thought he would in Big Brother 17 Episode 11 but was unable to secure the votes to stay. Liz and Shelli then won HOH.

Austin’s not happy with the votes. He’s so clueless that he continues to not know that Liz is the fourth vote. The rest of her alliance isn’t taking the hint that her being in her bed with Jeff probably meant something either.

In Liz’s HOH room is not a recent picture. No, it’s one from when she was younger and had missing front teeth. That way the dentist can’t see the crown.

Austin’s trying to get Jackie on his side, apparently. His method to do this is to tell her she’s going to go on the block as a pawn, which he hasn’t discussed with his alliance.

Remember last week and the week before when John was nominated as the person to throw the battle of the block? Yeah, that’s going to happen again. Clay isn’t even subtle about it. He pulls John out of the room of actual targets so they can discuss.

Audrey throws Jason under the bus to Shelli. Better him than her.

Liz’s Nominations
James
Jackie

Shelli’s Nominations
Jason
John

I don’t think they would be upset to see any of these people leave, but Jason is the target to go home.

Jackie wants to get some answers from Liz, who takes offense at her attempt to do this. She doesn’t understand why she should explain herself. For his part, Jason is able to get answers from Shelli, who realizes she may have made a mistake by listening to Audrey.

Audrey’s attempt at damage control would have been better off unsaid because she’s just making Shelli more suspicious.

In the battle of the block, they have to find four sets of keys to free a dummy. Jason and John find the first key quickly. Then they go up to the pile of leaves, where Jackie and James have conveniently tossed a key on top of the leaves for them. With that, the outcome is seeming pretty apparent. Eventually, though, James and Jackie catch up, and it all comes down to who can smash open the pumpkin with the key inside first. That would be James and Jackie, who win the battle of the block and dethrone Liz as HOH.

Big Brother 17 Episode 11

After John won the power of veto again in Big Brother 17 Episode 10, Jeff was nominated in his place against James.

Jeff doesn’t believe Vanessa’s bad acting. Little does he know that Austin is the main driving force behind this. He still considers Austin his bro.

Oh, and then there’s Jackie. Remember her? She plans to vote for Jeff to stay, so at least he has that one vote.

After all that’s happened, he now has to try to get back into Clay’s and Shelli’s good graces, which is a tough sell considering he suggested that they need to get rid of Shelli.

Austin thinks he has a showmance going on with Liz. Perhaps Jeff does as well. Or maybe neither does and Liz is just trying to flirt the way for herself and her sister to the end.

He seems like he’s got some potential votes, but I’m getting the sense all this is a lost cause.

Votes
Jackie: James
Austin: Jeff
John: James
Meg: Jeff
Clay: Jeff
Shelli: Jeff
Steve: James
Liz: James
Jason: Jeff
Becky: Jeff
Audrey: Jeff

By a vote of 7-4, Jeff has been evicted from the Big Brother house. His mistake was trusting Austin and never realizing it was blowing up in his face. Liz’s vote is an indication exactly why Austin wanted Jeff gone.

In the HOH competition, they will watch a lame 90s dance routine and must answer questions about it. James, Jason, Steve, and Clay are eliminated on the first question. Meg and Austin are next. Liz and Shelli are the only two to get the next question correct, and they win HOH, so basically the same power in control as the last couple of weeks.
