Laurel Responds to Wes’ The Bachelorette Controversy

Although Wes indicated after his ouster in The Bachelorette Season 5 Episode 8 that he was the only guy to ever get to the final four with a girlfriend, Laurel Kagay tells People that that girlfriend is not her.

“I was like, ‘What?’” Laurel, 29, tells PEOPLE. “There was this pause before he said my name — and then he said it quite a few times.”

Laurel tells the same story Wes told. They dated for three years, but now they’re friends. “I’m absolutely not with Wes, nor would I be with Wes if he were going on a show to be with another girl,” she says. “That’s absolutely crazy.”

She also wants us to believe he’s less of an unfeeling womanizing self centered stick in the mud than we have seen. “They have not shown Wes’s real personality at all. He’s so funny. When I was in a relationship with him, we were always laughing and having fun. And I never worried about him cheating on me.”

The sordid tale doesn’t end there. In addition to her relationship with Wes, whether it’s over now or not, Laurel also dated Brad Womack, the guy who didn’t want anything to do with any of the 25 hand selected beautiful women during his season of The Bachelor.

As if that’s not enough, she additionally dated Collin Evans, who was on The Bachelorette 3.

As for Wes, she apparently wants Jillian to be dumb enough to give him a shot. “She seems to have fun and has a good personality,” Laurel says, “and he’s really fun and funny. Too bad all this craziness had to go down.”

The Bachelorette Season 5 Episode 8

In the dramatic, yet barely believeable, The Bachelorette 5 Episode 7, first Jake returned to warn Jillian about Wes (after he introduced her to his band in another attempt to get people to hear his music) and his current girlfriend Laurel. She knew right away that Wes was the guy that the warning was about, but she still refused to eliminate him and just followed her gut, which told her to go meet his lying like rugs family. Strike one. Next intervention: Ed, who bailed on the show because his job was at stake, returned to ask for a second chance. I wonder what ABC had to offer his boss for him to be allowed to come back. At the rose ceremony, both Ed and Wes survived, while Michael and Jesse were sent packing.

The final four head to Madrid, Spain. So it’s overnight dates already.

Jillian wonders whether Kiptyn’s out of her league. They walk through the streets of Madrid. He never thought he would be there. This year. Although things have gone better than expected, he thinks a proposal is pretty far off. Jillian says there’s still a lot of time. Like two or three whole weeks. They go to learn some flamenco dancing, which they suck at, but they at least have fun. As the sun sets, they take a scooter to dinner. He reminds her a lot of her dad, which she realizes may well sound creepy. She’s worried that Kiptyn’s too soft and may not call her out when she needs it, but he reassures her that if he’s got an opinion about something, he’ll let her know. Since she is not sure yet about the direction they’re going, Jillian has decided to reject the offer to spend the night in the fantasy suite, but she does want to go back and hang out for a while.

Jillian wants to find out how Reid feels about her. When she’s around him, she can’t stop giggling. He tells her she looks muy bonita, which exhausts his Spanish knowledge. Her Spanish is about as good as his, so the process of ordering from a butcher in Seville proves to be comedic. His family loved her, though he imagines she was just as good with the other three families and Wes’ band. Reid thinks he’s in love. Maybe. He realizes that he’s slow at these things, perhaps slower than the other guys may be. They get the fantasy suite card. He’s leaving this up to her. She declines with him as well, but he doesn’t appear to even get an invite back to spend some time on the bed.

As much as Jillian likes Ed, she missed out on a lot when he abandoned her, such as the hometown dates. They hop on a carriage ride, where he believes he’s starting over. The carriage ride is focused entirely on his leaving and why he decided to come back. She wants to know what it would have been like if she did have the opportunity to meet the family. His response is that everyone would have loved her, and they wouldn’t have had any concerns. That all sounds a little bit too easy. Jillian’s plan is to ask him some serious questions, but for now, her plan is to just keep kissing him. She’s not real sure what her concerns are, since she hasn’t had time to develop those concerns. He wants to know how open she is to moving because it doesn’t sound like he has any interest in moving. Although Ed is interested in spending the night with Jillian, she does not want to spend the night with him either. That lasts about two seconds before she decides to go back to the suite with him. Because he bailed on her, he gets what the two previous guys could not get. They’re greeted by a hallway lined with candles, champagne and strawberries, and of course one bed.

Jillian heads to Barcelona to meet Wes, who would feel at home living around Spanish people because he had a song on his second album that was #1 in Chihuahua, Mexico. This guy just doesn’t quit. They get on bicycles to ride through the parks. Jillian’s a little worried about Wes’ lack of affection. While he’s talking to her about how she’s perfect and he could bear his soul to her, he’s sitting as far away from her as he can. Hypothetically speaking, they’ve decided that he will move to Vancouver. That would be… crazy. Okay, so how about meeting her in the middle? His response: that bird has no foot. Then he spills his beer.

She drops it, but then at dinner, she brings up the Laurel issue again. He doesn’t want to talk about it, as usual. As for the music thing, he’s gotten about all the publicity he needs from this, so he can now go home with that mission accomplished. If he really cared for her, maybe he would have kissed her at least once during their date. The other guys sure have. Wes responds that, if she wants him to show her affection, she will need to be dumb enough to tell him that he’s the one first. Numero uno is most important here. Okay, so how about let’s go back to Laurel. Why would Jake give a specific name? He told Jake the whole story about his girlfriend… uh, I mean, ex-girlfriend…

Will Jillian invite Wes back to the fantasy suite? He’d like to go to the suite with her, but now it’s about time she punch him in the face, which unfortunately does not happen (would have made great TV). She has finally realized that he may have something to hide. He may have something to hide? She feels sorry for him and puts him in a taxi to send him away.

In what was a bye week for the other three guys, Wes has finally gotten kicked off the show after Jillian’s weeks of denial end. He probably didn’t quite get the amount of fame he hoped for, but at least he leaves without his dignity. In his limo ride home, Wes admits he’s got a girlfriend.

Melissa Rycroft Engaged (Again)

Melissa Rycroft was The Bachelor 13 winner. The next night, we found out that putz Jason dumped her. To make it up to her, ABC pretended she was a star and gave her a spot on Dancing with the Stars.

Shortly after, Melissa got back with her ex, Tye Strickland, who she had dated on and off for two years. Now, People has confirmed that the two are engaged.

While filming The Bachelor, Melissa complained that she always dated losers before. Well, that doesn’t bode well for new fiance Tye.

“He’s my best friend,” Rycroft, 26, gushed to PEOPLE last April about the 28-year-old agent.

“He is a great home-town boy,” Rycroft’s DWTS partner Dovolani told PEOPLE of Strickland. “He will love her endlessly.”

The Bachelorette Season 5 Episode 7

Robby was let go after his individual date, and then Jake and Tanner were eliminated at the rose ceremony in The Bachelorette 5 Episode 6.

That leaves 5 guys to go on hometown dates.

The first stop is Reid’s hometown of Philadelphia, PA. They will be meeting his mom, dad, and brothers. If one of them disapproves, he’s going to have to follow that advice. Reid is a realtor, which could easily fit in with Jillian’s business as a designer. Jillian’s concerned that Reid is afraid to open up about his feelings. His mom thinks that because he’s been hurt once before, he will be slow to open up, though his older brother thinks he has commitment issues. His father tells him that he should jump into it head over heels if he feels strongly enough, whether there is a chance he could get hurt or not. Later on, the rest of the family joins them to celebrate Reid’s 30th birthday. They are surprised to see him being so affectionate. Jillian fell hard for Reid and his family today.

Michael’s hometown of Valencia, CA is up next. Jillian will meet his identical twin brother, mom, and dad. He got all those roses because one thing on her non-negotiable list is someone who can make her laugh. While Jillian’s downstairs, the brothers decide to switch places. That lasts about two seconds before she busts them. Michael’s mother is impressed with how much he adores her, but his father is worried that he’s falling pretty hard. Regardless, he has no plans to hold back. His brother answers Jillian’s concern that he’s too young. They always planned since they were little to get married young so that they could enjoy their wives before having to worry about having kids or anything like that. During dinner, Michael’s sister surprises him and returns home from Australia, and then they all gather around and dance.

Kiptyn’s hometown of San Diego, CA is the next stop. Before going to visit his family, he warns Jillian they might bring some heat. She meets his mom, stepdad (who’s like a second real dad), sister, brother, and brother’s girlfriend. They saw the last few episodes of The Bachelor, so they’ve put up the caution tape around the hot tub. Then they put Jillian through a taste test, where she has to choose the lasagne and wine she likes best. She is correct in identifying the ones they wanted her to pick, so her reward is to listen to them speak in French. Will they end up just thinking she’s a total hillbilly? Jillian discusses unconditional love, which Kiptyn’s mom is not so sure she believes in. She’d like someone to be honest with her, not perfect, and his mom tells her that won’t be a problem. After dinner, they cut down the caution tape.

Jesse’s family vineyard in Carmel, CA is the next destination. He hasn’t brought a girl home in about 4 years. Jillian’s concern with Jesse is that they got off to a slow start. It usually takes him a long time to figure things out. They don’t have a long time, though. They meet his dad, mom, and brother. Jesse doesn’t seem overly sure, but he doesn’t think it could have gone any better than it’s gone. His brother says he’s like an emotional ice cube sometimes, and he hasn’t seen anybody yet who’s been able to crack him, though Jillian’s doing a lot better than anyone else has. After they eat, they make an effort to be a band. Jesse doesn’t know how many more steps he’ll need to take forward, but he wants to keep getting chances to try.

Wes’ hometown of Austin, TX is the final stop. Will Jillian be introduced to his girlfriend? Maybe a wife or some kids? No, she meets his band. Are you kidding me? Is she still dumb enough to think he’s actually here just for her? He acknowledges his ultimate goal is to get people to buy his CD, and Jillian will have a copy of that CD to remember him by before she leaves town. Jillian doesn’t find anything wrong with this at all. She’s having the time of her life.

That’s not all. Jake is back. He wants to tell Jillian the truth about Wes. So let me get this straight. This guy hasn’t spent very much time at all with Jillian since their first date back at the beginning of the season, and when he asked her why she was dumping him, she couldn’t give him a reason. Yet, despite that, he’s here to be her knight in shining armor. Three words: scripted for television. He wants to tell her before she goes in and meets Wes’ family.

Jillian can’t stop thinking about how excited she is to meet Wes’ family. Oh, I think she can stop thinking about it for a few minutes. There’s a knock at the door. It’s Jake. She thinks he must be there to ask why he got let go again. The first words out of her mouth are an apology. Out of everybody, he’s the one she wished she could see again to make sure he’s okay. He’s not there to get her back, and he doesn’t really want to talk about why he was let go. Rather, he’s there to warn her about Wes. It’s not about his career, which in itself is a big problem. In addition to that hurdle that he’s there just to sell records, Wes has a girlfriend named Laurel, who they have discussed on multiple occasions. Jake will be leaving now, but if Jillian needs him, she can call him.

Now Jillian needs to hear it from Wes. When he comes to pick her up, she wants to ask one more time if there’s anything he needs to tell her, a question he’s getting real tired of hearing because it means he has to keep lying, which is apparently a tough position for a con artist to be in. Putting the band aside, Jake told her that he’s got a girlfriend. No, that’s crazy. Laurel is an ex. Jillian has a lot of tolerance for people, but she can’t tolerate liars. Jump ship now, then, as it’s been getting pretty deep in here. Wes says he would stick around if he were the last man standing.

Time to call Jake and ask him to come out to discuss this. He’s staying down the hall. He’ll be right over. Can Wes look him in the eye and tell him he doesn’t have a girlfriend? Of course he can. He’s been acting since day one. Not time to give it up now. Wes doesn’t like that Jake is trying to ruin his integrity. I think it’s a little too late for that. A rat fight ensues. This isn’t going anywhere, so Jillian asks Jake to leave. So what’s her next move?

With all that drama said and done, it’s time to go meet the family. Wow. Just. Wow. Perhaps meeting his family will help lay some of her fears to rest. Yeah, hold on to your wallet. They meet his stepmom, mom, and three sisters, pretending they’re a happy couple. The family’s in on the act, too. How much is their cut from this record deal? Either that, or they just don’t know any better. Based on what she’s heard from the family, Jillian has decided that Wes is there for all the right reasons. Oh geez. If Jillian gets hurt after this night, it’s really going to be hard to feel sorry for her. She’s made her own bed. Short of showing her clips of Wes saying why he’s really there, there’s nothing left that anybody can do to convince her.

Perhaps there is something else that can sway her to at least not consider Wes, however. As emotional as Austin’s been, Jillian doesn’t think she can handle any more surprises. How about a visit from Ed? So why is he there? He realizes he made a huge mistake. He should have given up his job for her, recession be damned. When he got home, he couldn’t stop thinking about her. He’d like another shot. She agrees to let him come to the rose ceremony. He’s way behind now, including having missed the hometown dates, meaning that if he were to propose, he’d have to do so without her meeting his family.

Although Ed has returned, there are still just four roses, so two of them will be sent home.

Roses
Reid
Kiptyn
Ed
Wes

The guy who bailed and the guy who will bail if chosen remain in the game, while both Michael and Jesse have been dismissed. Jesse’s not a surprise because of how slowly they were moving, and I guess Michael isn’t a surprise either since Jillian isn’t looking for someone that young, which she really should have told him sooner. Like every guy before him, Jesse says that Wes is there for all the wrong reasons. Michael was close to telling Jillian that he loved her, and he could see himself getting down on one knee.

The Bachelorette Season 5 Episode 6

Ed left because his boss threatened him (Jillian couldn’t understand why he would want to keep his job, rather than having a 1 in 10 shot with her), and then Mark was also sent home in The Bachelorette Season 5 Episode 5.

It’s time to leave Whistler and head via train to… somewhere that’s else. This luxurious train has been reserved just for them. They basically get one car each.

Robby gets the first individual date. They go to their own private car away from the other guys. He starts off showing her how to be a bartender, more or less. They head to the caboose for dinner. His family thinks he will be the first to get married, despite being the youngest of four. Jillian wants to have a family within the next couple of years (at least she doesn’t want to have three kids by age 30 like DeAnna did). He says he’s open to this. Although he’s 25, in between jobs, and hasn’t had a relationship in a couple years, he doesn’t see a problem with all that. Jillian’s fear is that, while Robby may be ready to fall in love, he’s not ready for more than that. With that said, the train starts to slow down. Good luck walking home from the middle of the Canadian wilderness. Maybe in another 5 or 10 years, she’d be interested, but at this point, she will have to let him go.

Wes says that, if there’s anybody here with a hidden agenda, it would probably be him. Ya think? He goes to comfort Jillian, who said she thought there would be more jerks. Wait for it. He’s got some records to sell. I’m curious how many people watching this would actually want to buy them. Granted, his target audience is women who like bad boys, like Jillian.

Tanner, Wes, Michael, Jesse, Jake, and Kiptyn get the group date. They stop at Emerald Lake for some snow shoeing, which I’m taking them by their word is a real thing. So that he can get closer to her feet, Tanner grabs the shoes that match Jillian’s shirt. The group of them play hide and seek, or so it appears. Jake “accidentally” stumbles over Jillian when he finds her, turning it into an opportunity to cuddle.

After playing in the snow for the day, they go to warm up by the fire. Jake is falling for Jillian, although he hasn’t had very much time alone with her since the first week. She’s a lot like his mom, who he hopes she’ll go to meet next week on the hometown dates. Before he gets the chance to say everything he wants, the entire rest of the group decides to break things up.

Then Kiptyn steals her away and goes inside. He is worried that he is stepping back too far because he’s not sure how she feels since there are so many other guys around. Unlike Jake, who didn’t have the time to get to where he wanted, Kiptyn manages to get plenty close to Jillian.

The group comes in, and Michael decides that he wants to know what Jillian wears to bed. Somehow, this leads Tanner to show off his underpants. Okay, nobody’s ready to see his package, at least not without peeking (Jillian did notice it was huge, for what that’s worth). Then they get some alone time, complete with a foot massage. Yeah, still creepy. He rates her feet a 9-9.5, with a higher rating pending her painting them mango mango.

Jesse really wants Jillian to come to his hometown, and he’s convinced his family will love her.

Michael wants to prove he’s more than just the young crazy guy who makes everyone laugh. His parents, his brother, and his dog would kick him out of the family if he doesn’t marry Jillian. Her main concern is his age.

Tanner decides to tell the truth to the other guys. He was the rat who mentioned the guys with the hidden agendas. If they’re all there for the right reasons, nobody should be worried, though. So Wes now has a target for his anger. He doesn’t like tattle tales. Regardless, he’s already made it 6 episodes and sang his song. He already got all the publicity he wanted, so it really doesn’t matter if he gets sent home tonight. Jake intends to get to the bottom of this, whether Wes is his friend or not.

At the end of the night, Jillian gives away a rose, and that person is guaranteed to be going on the hometown date. Kiptyn gets a rose.

The next morning, Jake wants to open up more because he’s afraid he won’t get a rose. While he’s not in love yet, he’s crazy about her. Then he tells us that Jillian’s who he wants to marry, which is confusing, or at least I’m confused.

Reid gets his one-on-one date. That means he’s all alone on the train all day, with the exception of some train staff. One of them happens to ask whether he’s told her how he feels. No, he hasn’t. They will hit the slopes at Lake Louise in Alberta. Since they’re on snowboards instead of skis, he gets the chance to practice his falling. He’s completely open to this new adventure, even though he realizes he sucks. Jesse is expecting to see Reid get cut since he can be annoying sometimes, and he doesn’t see how they could be compatible. Reid is neurotic… fondue and unwashed vegetables concern him. The girls he’s dated have been blonde and otherwise don’t look like Jillian. When she questions him about whether he’s concerned about the fact that she lives in the sticks while he lives in Philly, he responds that they can figure it out when they get there and not worry about it just yet. Although she’s a little bit worried how they’d actually fit into each others’ lives, Reid gets a rose.

They have arrived at their final stop on this train tour, Banff, Alberta, Canada.

Jillian’s well aware that Wes has a career to promote. She even indicates that may have been his primary purpose for coming on the show, but she thinks he’s into her as well. It’s possible (yet getting less likely) she’s right, but nonetheless he’s not going to lose any sleep if he gets cut.

Before the rose ceremony begins, Jillian still has a few questions she needs to ask Michael. She never expected she’d be falling for someone who’s 25. With the exception of Jesse, the other remaining guys are in their 30s. The one thing he’s missing in his life is the forever person.

Joining Robby from earlier in the show are Jake and Tanner. These are the two guys who have been the most vocal about guys with a hidden agenda. Will they speak up? That would be a no. Tanner doesn’t know what he did wrong, but he does still want to know what Wes is doing there, even if he’s still not naming names. Jake wants to know why he wasn’t chosen, but she doesn’t have an answer for him. He doesn’t get her choices of dangerous, flimsy, and really young over him. His last word of warning: she will get hurt by Wes.

The Bachelorette Season 5 Episode 5

Following Mike’s departure after the two-on-one date, at least producer plant was sent home as arch nemesises (nemeses? nemesi?) Juan and David were both sent packing in The Bachelorette Season 5 Episode 4.

Everybody goes to Whistler, BC, Canada, a ski resort town a couple hours outside of Vancouver.

Michael gets the one-on-one date. Jillian just about let him go last night (maybe), so she wants to see if there’s a connection there on this solo date. They start off ziplining. Jillian feels like a kid again. That night, they go to a champagne place, where they see hundreds of bottles dating back to the 1800s. At dinner, Michael says he’s a cheesy hopeless romantic. Jillian doesn’t know what she’s looking for, but she is ready to ask someone to do this forever. He broke up with someone eight months ago, and this is his first dating experience since then. He was happy the first night when Jillian breakdanced with him because it was a relief since he doesn’t know a lot of girls who like to let their hair down like that. Michael makes her laugh, and there’s never a lack of conversation, so he gets the rose, although she still has some concerns that she’ll need to figure out.

The guys at the house are still trying to figure out the girlfriend thing. Is it a lie? Is it real? Is Wes a bigger phony than he seems?

The group date is for Wes, Robby, Kiptyn, Tanner, Ed, Jake, Reid, and Mark. They will be going snowmobiling. Jillian selects Robby to ride with her, while the rest of the guys can ride in groups of two. This is every Canadian girl’s dream. Robby apologizes for his outburst at the rose ceremony. She thinks he’s honest and doesn’t believe she has to worry about him having a girlfriend. Next up is Tanner. Is he going to reveal a name? No, he’s just going to leave it up to her. Wes could see someone thinking he’s there for the wrong reasons, what with his CD coming out and all. He doesn’t want to talk about it any more. Jillian likes that he’s kinda bad ass. I don’t think she’ll like it for very long. After asking Kiptyn to feel her butt, Jillian reveals that she doesn’t suspect him. She doesn’t know what he’s actually saying to her… she just keeps thinking how cute he is. Reid has gotten off to a slower emotional start with her. He’ll definitely be married with children in a few years. So anyway, who’s the one with the girlfriend? He tells her everybody’s got a girlfriend, if not multiple girlfriends, and that he’s got some wives.

Ed seems distant from everyone. He’s wondering what he’s doing there, having had a conference call with his boss that morning. If he wants to stick around, he’ll probably be unemployed. Ed receives the rose so he knows she wants him to stay. Does he want to keep the rose, or does he want to give it back? He accepts it. Jake’s pretty confident he will not be at the next rose ceremony. A recession is not the best time to play with your job.

Jesse gets the other one-on-one date. They will be flying to a glacier. There’s not a lot of talking when they’re riding over, but they both think the view is breattaking. When they land, everything’s untouched like nobody’s ever been there before. This is the best day Jesse’s ever had. It even beats his 6th Christmas when he got his Tonka truck. He’ll remember this forever. After they play in the snow for a while, they fly back to get dinner. He’s been in love once before. She let that slip on the glacier, but now it’s time for the tough questions. Is it too soon? He says it’s been almost half a year, so now he’s ready to be in a relationship and commit. Do they still talk? Oh, god no. As for her, she’s ready to bail on Vancouver and is open to moving to her man’s city for a couple years. He loves her voice, which he could fall asleep to… she just wants to know how he could fall asleep to nails on a chalkboard. After dinner they get in a hot tub, presumably prompting Jillian’s parents to turn off the TV. He wants to know how he’s going to explain this day to everyone. Tivo. Excited to see what comes next, Jillian gives Jesse a rose.

Ed needs to talk. He spoke with his boss again, and with that said, he will be leaving. Jillian’s hurt, but at least they’re figuring it out before they go too far. While he’s letting her down, he has to leave, or he’ll be letting down a lot more people. Before he leaves, he asks to keep the rose. She just wishes he would have thought about this before he came here, a valid complaint since it can’t be a surprise to him how long this process has turned out to be, unless he was expecting to be sent home at the first rose ceremony. Jillian threw away everything she had for this opportunity. Really? Everything?

Chris asks if Tanner is someone Jillian can trust. Her response: if he is there to fall in love with her, he should focus on that, not calling the other guys out (no matter how many times she asks him to spill apparently).

Jillian’s ready to get down to business. No need for a cocktail party.

Following Ed’s earlier departure, Mark, who was spared elimination on last week’s two-on-one date, has now been eliminated. He’s reconsidering putting his walls up, although he has been cheated on 4 times. Since he didn’t come here to sell records and doesn’t have a girlfriend, he doesn’t feel like he got a fair chance.

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of The Bachelorette 5 episode 6, which airs Monday at 8/7c on ABC.

The Bachelorette 5 Episode 4

Jillian eliminated three more guys in The Bachelorette 5 Episode 3: Sasha, Brad, and Tanner F.

Jillian has left the country. The boys will be leaving the bunkhouse forever and fly to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They will be put up in a luxurious suite, and they’re apparently going to be staying there for a while. Heading home after a couple episodes seems unusual. So is Jillian like planning to be working while she’s trying to find her fairy tale prince?

Kiptyn gets the one-on-one date. They hop in kayaks to go get groceries at the public market. So I’m guessing that in the winter she uses sled dogs instead. While they’re shopping, they discuss charity, which they both enjoy but don’t really have time for. When they’re done shopping, they go back home to cook dinner together. She doesn’t mind that he’s hanging around/over her in the kitchen, although she normally would prefer to be alone. Kiptyn says that, in relationships, he just waits for someone come to him, rather than him going to them. I doubt he has much trouble getting people to come to him, though. As well as they’ve gotten along throughout the day, it’s no surprise that Kiptyn gets a rose.

The group date will be Jesse, Tanner, Jake, Robby, Wes, Ed, Michael, Reid, Juan, and David. That leaves Mike against Mark for the two-on-one. For the group date, they will be participating in an internationally recognized (in Canada) winter sport, curling. It’s safe to say none of these guys have ever done this before. The winning team will go out with Jillian that night, while the losing team will be going back to the hotel. Lame, but her justification that she’d rather just spend some time with a few guys makes sense. Granted, the producers could just plan more dates. While everybody else is playing, Michael just keeps hugging her. Beats curling. With one whole point (I’m guessing it’s a point… who knows the rules of curling?), red team wins the challenge.

For their reward, red team will be going on a historic boat with Jillian. David wants some tequila because it’s probably been a couple hours since he had any. While he finds that, Jake and Jillian go off alone. They haven’t talked much since their individual date. She thinks he’s perfect, which worries him. He’s been called too perfect all his life. Jillian tells Jesse that he’s there for a reason, not just out of luck. David has the opposite problem of Jake. He’s far from too perfect. When they get comfortable, he’s a little bit too comfortable with her. Her question: does he respect her? His goal is to get a kiss from her, since she turned the other cheek. Jesse gets the rose.

Mark and Michael will be competing in the two-on-one date. One will get a rose and the other will be sent packing. They get in a helicopter to ride over Vancouver. Jillian gets a window seat, which means that the guy in the middle, Mike, gets to hold her hand, while the guy who gets the other window seat becomes a bit of a third wheel. Mark’s outside of his comfort zone, so he’s struggling at dinner, while Mike is talkative and trying to get to know Jillian. There is no clear cut decision here for Jillian. She’d like to talk to each of them alone. After talking to Mike, she feels they have a lot more in common than she thought. Mark’s careful with his emotions, having been burned before, which is something Jillian’s emphasized more than once before as being important to her. Jillian has decided to give the rose to Mark. With that, Mike will be going home. She’s going for what she thinks she needs in a partner.

Reid’s worried that Wes is here for his music. He’s not alone in thinking that. The other guys pretty much seem to be in agreement with him. Here’s the (additional) complication with Wes. He has a girlfriend at home, and he’s apparently been dumb enough to tell the other guys that.

Jillian is worried that Jake may be pulling back. He wants to make sure that he actually is what she is looking for. There are some guys who are not there for the right reasons.

Tanner follows this. He warns her that there are guys she needs to know about, though he’s not ready to reveal names yet.

Following that conversation, which is becoming a theme, Jillian confronts the group as a whole about having relationships and hidden agendas. The cocktail party is over. She’ll see them at the rose ceremony.

Chris would like to get to the bottom of this before another rose is handed out, though he realizes that it’s entirely possible they may continue the charade.

So does anyone have something to say? Dead silence. Jake breaks the silence. He’s there to find love. A few other guys echo his sentiments. All the guys deny they have a girlfriend. David doesn’t like snitches (it’s probably against that guy code of his). He’d like for the snitch to reveal himself. He suggests eliminating that person. The net result of this discussion: nobody admits to anything. A defensive Tanner mostly just wants Juan to stop looking at him.

Wes lives to write another song. Arch enemies David and Juan have been cut, joining Mike from earlier in the night. Juan says he’s surprised but is more determined than ever to find a wife. David wants to know why. Jillian doesn’t want to tell him he’s a creep, so she just says she doesn’t know.

The Bachelorette Season 5 Episode 3

After Julien, Brian, Mathue, and Simon were eliminated in The Bachelorette 5 Episode 2, Jillian’s down to just 16 guys now.

Ed gets the one-on-one date. He hops in a helicopter to go to a mystery location. He’s not sure whether he likes looking at the scenery or Jillian more. Aww. They land on top of a building in downtown LA. There’s only one way down. From the outside. He considers himself more adventurous than dangerous, and he just hopes this is all legal. Jillian believes that, in order to find love, you need to take a leap of faith (off a skyscraper). Once attached to the wires, they are lowered down to the ground. Jillian’s concern is that Ed may be too involved in his career, which she is able to relate to. His other potential problem is that he doesn’t open up very easily, but he realizes that there’s not a lot of time to waste here. Jillian still wants to learn more, but she knows enough to give him a rose.

Reid, Wes, Mike, Michael, Tanner F, Mark, Brad, Robby, Tanner P, Kiptyn, and Juan get the group date. So that’s 11. They take a limo to the wild west (movie set). Half the guys on this show are probably hoping to get acting/modeling gigs out of it, so this should work quite well for them. The guys are excited to find out they’ll be kissing Jillian. The bad news is that a lot of guys will be kissing Jillian. Too bad for Michael he’s playing a gay cowboy, and he’s been paired up with Mike. So will they be kissing? Jillian kisses at the card table, she kisses the guy who rescues her from the guy at the card table, she kisses her guy farewell, she kisses in the jail cell. She asks for less tongue. The one kiss that wasn’t her acting was the one with Robby. Feeling left out, Wes takes Jillian away to talk to her about this kissfest. This jealousy isn’t lost on Jilian. As for Mike and Michael, they’re not going to be kissing anyone. They do get hugs, though. Manly hugs. Jillian’s glad they didn’t kiss, no matter how much the other guys wanted them to.

Once the acting’s done, they go to a penthouse. Reid says he’s only been in love 1.5 times in his life. Just as he’s going in for the kiss, Juan barges in. He wants to defend himself after what happened the other night with him being voted by the guys as the one they wanted to leave most. He realizes that people picked people they didn’t like. Speaking of Juan, David’s sitting at the house going on about how much he hates him (yeah, that same broken record). I get the sense that David didn’t pass the psych test coming into this. Back at the hotel, they get in the hot tub built for a dozen, where Tanner P immediately starts getting off on Jillian’s feet. Jillian tells Robby that she liked their scene the best, as well as their kiss. Their kiss at the hotel doesn’t last very long before Brad starts yelling about it, but Robby gets the rose.

Sasha gets the one-on-one date. According to him, he’s one of the more well rounded individuals in the house, so she made a good choice by picking him. If you say so, dude. Wes is bummed that he’s not getting this alone time with her, so he wrote a song for her and will sing it later to promote his country music career win some points with her. Like this guy isn’t getting old already. Sasha and Jillian go to see some antique cars because she loves “anything with a motor.” When they’re done taking pictures of each other, he drives like a maniac, presumably breaking at least one law on national TV, and she loves it. At dinner, he tells a story about his first truck flipped over on his back, which nearly crippled or killed him. He learned from that experience (apparently not the don’t drive dangerously part) and says it pointed him in the right direction in his life. Jillian appreciates that he told her this sad story. He’s been in love three times (twice in high school, which didn’t really count) but hasn’t had his heart broken. He is in search of a mythical unicorn called true love. Afraid that Sasha’s not quite ready for this experience yet, Jillian has decided not to give him a rose. Next she’ll break the news to him about Santa Claus.

Now that the date’s over, it’s time for Wes to sing Jillian the song he claims he wrote for her. I’m having trouble taking this guy seriously, but apparently Jillian’s falling for it.

This week, three guys end up dateless: David, Jesse, and Jake. Jake got the individual date with Jillian last week and got to spend some time with her at the mansion, so he should be good.

David, however, is in the process of freaking out because he doesn’t feel like he’s getting enough time with Jillian. While they’re talking, he begins to say that there are other guys in the house that she’s not a good fit for. With that said, Juan would like to steal her away. This won’t end well. David’s patience is starting to wear thin. I didn’t notice a change. Jillian appreciates that Juan is there for her and not really paying attention to the guys.

Tanner P is there to suck on some toes. But first, he wants to get to know Jillian better. While they’re talking, she tosses her feet in his lap to distract him.

Ed is expecting the rose ceremony to be a train wreck. The increasingly drunk David is growing increasingly angry. David’s not saying he’s the person for Jillian, so long as he can make an effort to ruin Juan’s chances. Brad sees David with his mad face on (as if there’s another) and confronts him about it. He tells Jillian that Dave’s the scariest dude in the house. David begins to take it out on the other guys because they’re not trashing Juan as well. Into this discussion walks Juan, who’s told to go back inside because they’re talking about him.

Taking a break from the drama for a bit, Jillian asks Kiptyn how come he’s never been dumped before. She’s getting really hung up on that question.

Back to the ranting maniac. In the middle of this latest rant, Juan walks out and is told to go back inside again. This time, he speaks his mind. David’s entire issue apparently stems from Juan faking drinking a shot. In Dave’s world, that is justification for hating someone’s guts. After a couple minutes of ranting, David, who previously mocked Juan for walking away, now walks away himself. He’s done complaining now that Juan’s actually in the room. Jillian comes to talk to the guys, but before they can tell her what’s been going on, Chris conveniently walks in to drag her away.

Following Sasha’s departure earlier in the episode, Brad and Tanner F have now been eliminated. Tanner F just hopes Jillian doesn’t pick someone like Wes, but he realizes he should have tried to make a connection earlier. Brad doesn’t get how Tanner P or David are still there. After his display tonight, David looks pretty close to sealing his own fate and being kicked off the show, should the producers allow it.
