Survivor: One World Winner

Tarzan was voted off the island in Survivor: One World Episode 13 because he’s a mastermind (who the jury hates and who can’t remember anyone’s name).

Dull cast, dull season. And then there were 5: Alicia Rosa, Chelsea Meissner, Christina Cha, Kim Spradlin, and Sabrina Thompson. As has been the case all season, I find myself struggling to find someone to root for, though the edit she’s gotten combined with the morons she’s competing against would suggest Kim is going to walk away with this, if she can make sure the jury does not hate her enough.

Kim says that the only person that can beat either her or Sabrina is Chelsea. This target is news to Sabrina, who was under the silly impression they should all stick together to the end.

For the challenge, they will untie a gate, race across a balance beam maze, collect bags of puzzle pieces on a rope net, solve a puzzle for three numbers, and use those numbers to solve a combination lock. Christina and Kim are first through the gate, but both fall off the beam, giving Alicia and Chelsea the lead. Alicia inadvertently unties other people’s bags, giving them an advantage and Chelsea the lead as they head into the puzzle. Kim is the first to piece together her puzzle, followed by Alicia and Chelsea, while the other two have no shot. Kim’s solution is incorrect, so she returns, followed by Alicia. With an alternate answer, Kim wins immunity.

Like Sabrina, Chelsea wants to stick with the final three plan with Kim, in spite of the fact that she considers Kim her biggest threat.

Alicia, the idiot who got rid of Tarzan last week, feels comfortable in her position in this tribe because Kim would be stupid to go to the end with Chelsea and Sabrina rather than her and Christina.

The jury is looking pretty miserable, a repeat of what we’ve seen in previous weeks.

Tonight is the last night Kim may play her hidden immunity idol. She declines to play it or hand it to anyone.

Alicia

With 3 votes, Alicia has been voted off the island. Strangely, she’s mad at Christina, who was on her side, rather than looking in the mirror and blaming herself for being an idiot last week.

Kim apologizes to Christina for lying to her this whole time. Christina doesn’t want to get even, though. She just wants to get rid of Sabrina.

The final immunity challenge has them using a long wooden pole to maneuver 10 wooden bowls through a maze and stack them on the maze platform that’s held in place on a spring. Interesting challenge. Hardly what I’d expect for a final challenge. Kim quickly finds herself with a healthy lead. As Kim makes a mistake, Christina closes in on her. Sabrina remains perhaps the biggest challenge non-threat of the season, even worse than Tarzan. Christina keeps things moderately interesting, but Kim never relinqueshes her lead. Kim wins immunity.

When they return, Christina poses a question to Kim. “So it’s me?” Nice to see her fighting to the end.

Now we head to questions from the jury, none of whom like anybody sitting in the final three.

Jonas comments about how badly Sabrina sucked at challenges. Chelsea takes credit for taking Kat out. He doesn’t understand why Kim didn’t take Christina with her.

Kim tells Christina she would get rid Chelsea if she had to choose. Christina’s question to Chelsea: “Why do you hate people?” This from the girl who didn’t connect with a single person her entire time on the island.

Jay points out that Sabrina didn’t do anything at camp either, and wasn’t just a failure at challenges.

Mike says that Kim failed to deflect blame to anybody else when she was blindsiding people, a key part of the blindside she seems to have missed.

Tarzan apparently brought a thesaurus as his luxury item, as he rambles in big words with little relevant point. A tearful Chelsea responds by saying she aspires to what he and his wife have.

Kim didn’t feel bad about Leif’s name being written down. Sabrina says Leif’s elimination was Kim’s fault.

The main point of Alicia’s comment is to talk about how great she is. Delusional, party of one. She congratulates Kim for having her pawns.

Kim tells Troyzan that his plans fell apart when she got rid of Jonas.

Kat tells them they all hurt her, but Kim destroyed her. In spite of all her negative comments and crying for the past couple weeks, she says she doesn’t have time to be angry with them.

Troyzan votes for Sabrina because Kim may have won a lot of challenges, but that doesn’t make her the best player. Kat votes for Kim, which she calls a lesson learned, voting for the best player rather than based on hurt feelings.

Kim is the Survivor: One World winner. Not the most compelling winner ever, but it became increasingly obvious she was going to win as her opponents made increasingly boneheaded moves. Chelsea received 0 votes, Sabrina received votes from Troyzan and Leif, and Kim swept the other 7 votes.

So apparently Blossom is still on TV.

Kim, Tarzan, Troyzan, and Chelsea are in the running for America’s vote. Kim won the vote and the $100,000 prize that goes along with it.

Survivor will be back for season 25 in Survivor: Philippines, which includes three castaways who were airlifted out of previous seasons. I hope it’s better.

Survivor: One World Episode 13

Kat was eliminated in a fun and exciting blindside in Survivor: One World Episode 12.

Tarzan thinks they would have been smarter than he is. Because apparently he is a threat. To take third place with 0 votes.

Christina, who we’ve been told for weeks is either going home or being thrown in the fire, is now everybody’s friend. Both sides want her, and they both want to bring her to the end knowing she won’t get any votes.

For the reward challenge, they will release three discs by spinning them, then use them to form a decoder. Reward is an overnight stay on a yacht. They all spin around and get dizzy, but it comes down to the puzzle at the end. They’ll have to get the right three numbers in the right order. Chelsea wins reward. She takes Sabrina and Kim, not the person she promised, Christina. Deja vu.

After discussing how Chelsea is a liar and a hypocrite, the three who remain on the island start planning a final three: Tarzan, Alicia, Christina. Worst final three ever, but at least somebody would have done something to shake things up for a change.

Kim hopes to convince Alicia that Tarzan is a mastermind. Really? And it seems to be working. A little.

At the immunity challenge, they pick up bags of puzzle pieces, then complete a fish skeleton puzzle, with one hand tied behind their backs. Kim’s first to complete the first section, with Alicia right behind her. Everybody else is out of it already. Alicia briefly takes the lead but fails to capitalize and loses it while untying her second bag. Kim reloses the lead to Alicia. In a close race, Alicia wins immunity.

So now that Kat’s gone, Tarzan is wearing her shirt, and he also has her panties on his head. But he knows about microbes, so never fear the dirty underpants.

Chelsea suggests that Kim play the idol, but Kim says no. It would be stupid to waste guaranteed final four to save someone who’s a threat anyway, best friend for as long as they’re on the island or not.

Survivor: One World Episode 12

Continuing the collapse of the male inhabitants of the island, Troyzan was the next to go in Survivor: One World Episode 11.

Alicia informs us of the new power rankings. There’s here, and then nobody else. She is afraid of Sabrina, though.

Their families have made their way to the island for a Sprint commercial. The reward challenge that follows ties them together to make their way through a rope untying course. Reward is food with their loved ones. Kat and her cousin have the lead for most of the time and squeeze out a victory over Kim and Chelsea. Although Kim lied to her and did not pick her last time, Kat will be going with Kim and her sister. Alicia and her brother will also be joining them. She just wants to spend time with them because they’re her friends. No strategy, no nothing. Sabrina, Chelsea, and even Kim say that Kat made a mistake not taking Tarzan (and his wife of 30 years) and Christina (and her father who just got a kidney transplant).

The group at the reward discusses getting rid of Sabrina. That leaves the group at camp to talk about getting rid of Kat, though Tarzan can’t figure out why because she sucks.

At the immunity challenge, they will stand on a ledge over the water while holding a handle behind their backs and above their hips, with the incline increasing at set intervals. Sabrina is out after 10 minutes. Tarzan’s not far behind. Alicia drops at 20 minutes. Chelsea’s right behind her. Christina follows them closely. The final 2, each of whom is in as much danger as the one next to her, outlast them by a large margin. After an hour, Kat starts to ask Kim to drop, but it does not happen. Kim wins immunity.

Kat’s angry about losing to Kim, who at 28 is like an old maid. Meanwhile, Alicia says she’s less afraid of Sabrina (first one out) but more afraid of Kat (second place). That makes one more potential swing vote to join Chelsea. The most adamant holdout against getting rid of Kat is Kim, who wants to eliminate the smarter player.

Sabrina promises to cast her jury vote emotionally. This will not end well when she gets blindsided.

Kat tells us blindsides are fun and exciting. Kiss of death.

Survivor: One World Episode 11

Throwing away yet another opportunity to overthrow the dominant all female alliance in Survivor: One World Episode 10, the castaways opted to get rid of Leif.

The reward challenge is a chance for people to let others know where they stand, for those who have not been paying attention so far. Three chops, and they’re out. Reward is a helicopter ride and a picnic.

Who does not deserve to still be here? Christina.
Kim, Chelsea, and Troyzan are correct. Troy strikes Kat, Kim goes for Troy, and Chelsea targets Tarzan.

Who would you trust with your life? Kim.
Christina, Chelsea, and Alicia are right. Christina strikes Chelsea, Chelsea goes for Troyzan, and Alicia eliminates Troyzan.

Who most needs a wake up call in life? Harsh. Kat.
Everybody says Kat, except for Kat, who says Christina. Sabrina hits Tarzan, Tarzan goes for Chelsea, Kim gets rid of Tarzan, Christina strikes Sabrina, Chelsea hits Christina, and Alicia eliminates Chelsea.

Who is the biggest poser? Troyzan.
Everybody says Troyzan, except Alicia, who says Christina. Kim hits Sabrina, Christina goes for Kim, Kat goes for Alicia, Sabrina also goes for Alicia.

Who does the least for their tribe? Sabrina.
Kim, Christina, and Alicia are right. Christina strikes Kat, Alicia eliminates Kat, and Kim eliminates Sabrina.

Who would you most like to be stranded with on an island? Kim.
Kim says herself (really?), and Alicia is also right. Alicia goes for Christina, and Kim finishes off Christina.

Who do you hope to never see again after the game? Troyzan.
Both Kim and Alicia are right. Kim wins the challenge. Perhaps an eye opener for somebody.

Kim chooses to bring Alicia with her in an effort to prevent her from being on the island to scheme, and she also picks Chelsea, contrary to her earlier deal to go with Kat.

The two men were knocked out first, Christina’s name gets mentioned for everything, Sabrina’s lazy, Kim doesn’t like any of these people enough to be stranded on an island with them, nobody likes Troyzan, and the cherry on top is that Kat has been left out of her clique. Somebody’s going to be upset.

Troyzan hopes to use the wedge to talk some sense into somebody, anybody. Kat doesn’t want to hear what Troy is saving, but at the same time she is crying and worried about her position in the game. Sabrina comforts her, then pretends she’s ready to flip, to which Christina quickly responds she’s onboard with getting rid of Kim.

Kim realizes that breaking her promise to Kat… probably not the smartest move.

As they’re preparing to cook rice, they see some bacon walk past them. The pig is smarter than they are, though, so no BBQ tonight.

For the immunity challenge, they will slide down a slippery course two at a time (complete with oil to lube up their bodies), grab rope rings, and toss them on hooks. Chelsea eliminates Alicia. Kat eliminates Sabrina. Tarzan eliminates Troyzan, and that’s about all most of them need to see in this game of chance. Kim eliminates Christina. Round 2 features the addition of a second ring. Chelsea lands a ring, Kat lands one, then Chelsea lands her second to eliminate Kat. Kim scores, then she scores again to eliminate the seemingly incoherent Tarzan. The final round will contain a third ring. Chelsea scores, Kim ties it at 1, Kim takes the 2-1 lead, Chelsea ties it, then Kim wins immunity.

No matter how much they try to present an alternative, Troyzan not having immunity makes what happens next a foregone conclusion. Even his best hope of getting rid of Kim is not an option.

Because they think Troy has an idol, they’re going to toss votes Christina’s way. So Kim says, so it will be. Kat doesn’t like that, but it’s not like anybody believes she’ll flip.

Alicia says that Christina has an IQ of 0, which may or may not be a real thing. She alleges that she’s a special ed teacher, who just treats Christina as if she’s one of her students. I can just picture the backlash from somebody overreacting to that comment.

Christina tells us she doesn’t trust the girls 100%. Perhaps she should change that trust level to 0%, or at least close to it.

Rather than trying to get rid of Chelsea, Troyzan has decided his best choice is to join the Christina votes to see if he can make it 4.

Kat points out in front of the jury and the rest of her tribe that she questions whether she’s a weak player who’s just following Kim.

Survivor: One World Episode 10

The decline of the male population of castaways continued in Survivor: One World Episode 9 when Jay became the last person on the planet to realize the women were turning on him.

Realizing he’s an outcast, Troyzan has decided to put an even bigger target on his back by lashing out at everybody else. Feel free to be upset, but giving people a hard time isn’t going to want them to keep you around. To add insult to injury, he says that these girls are like a lot of women, who get everything they need and decide they don’t need men any more. That’s going to piss somebody off. The irony here is that he was among the idiots to vote his fellow men off the island. Now he’s stuck with people who wish to continue that trend. Sorry, dude. Should have played smarter.

It’s time for an auction. They’re all looking for food, but Troy just wants something that will give him power. Each person has $500 to bid, and they will bid in $20 increments.

The first item is 3 donuts and an iced coffee. Bidding starts at $100. Chelsea ends up winning it for $160. Next item is chips, guacamole, and a margarita. A stupid bidding war ensues between Kat and Sabrina, with Sabrina getting it for $400. Next item is a smart one, a protein shake and a banana. Kat starts at $40, but she’s competing against Leif, who grabs it for $100. Alicia starts the bidding for a Survivor shower and toothbrush at $20. Kat seems to want to win, but she can’t figure out the next increment. Kim takes it for $40. Next up for grabs is BLT, chips, and an iced tea. Christina starts at $40. Kat again gets into a bidding war, finally winning something for $180, surprised to find out there’s bacon in a BLT. The next item is a bowl of peanutbutter and some chocolate. Kim bids $200 from the shower. Alicia only bids against her once, giving it to her for $240, well worth it. Alicia promptly bids $500 for letters from home. Tarzan joins with the same steep bid. Troyzan bids $300 for an advantage in the immunity challenge. With pressure from the other girls, who don’t like her, Christina joins, but she loses to Troyzan for $420. Kat bids $60 for the covered item with a note, and she is joined by Christina. For $160, Kat receives a cake for the tribe to share for 60 seconds.

Troy’s advantage at the immunity challenge is that he automatically moves to the second stage, an improvement from 1 in 9 odds to 1 in 4.

The girls talk about how they’re annoyed that Christina backed down when bidding against Troy. She should have taken one for the team. Please. You’ve been talking about voting her out for more than half the season.

The immunity challenge is a three stage process. The first four to untangle ropes will go to the next round, where they will race up a stack of crates and bounce a coconut off a trampoline to break 3 targets. The first two to complete that will use a slingshot to fire coconuts at a wall of targets, where they will have to make a row of 3 hits to win. Troy is first to advance due to his advantage, though I imagine he would have done just fine regardless. He is joined by Tarzan, Kim, and Christina, the most surprising trio ever. Troyzan, with absolutely no support from the otherwise cheerful peanut gallery, is first to advance, followed by Tarzan. Both connect on their first hit. Troy connects on his second, but not in a row. Both hit on their third try, giving Troy two potential opportunities to win and Tarzan one. Tarzan connects to give him three more options. Troyzan wins immunity, taunting his fellow castaways, who warn him he’s losing the jury.

When they return to camp, Tarzan asks Troyzan to have a little bit of sportsmanship when he wins. Troy declines.

Without Troy as a voting option, the two choices become Tarzan and Leif.

Not being on the chopping block, Troyzan has a proposal. The guys, Christina, and Alicia need to get away from the alliance and join forces. An alliance of convenience isn’t great, but it’s better than the alternative of merely hanging on until it’s your turn to be voted out by the now dominant alliance.

Sabrina has a point, a valid point Troy again refuses to hear. You have to outwit, outplay, and outlast, but at the end of the day, you have to be somewhat likeable.

Survivor: One World Episode 9

Yet another guy got voted off the island in Survivor: One World Episode 8, as physical threat Mike was eliminated.

It’s time for a do it yourself reward challenge. Reward is a boat ride to a local BBQ. Troyzan, Jay, Tarzan, Kat, and Alicia are on the red team; Kim, Chelsea, Christina, Sabrina, and Leif are on the black team. Troyzan is the host. Their challenge is to toss a string connecting two balls and land them on numbered poles. Kat gives the red team a 2-0 lead. Tarzan makes it 6-0. Christina puts the black team on the board 6-1. 1 toss each, and we’re done. Well, that was thoroughly lame. Red team wins reward.

Jay, who really needs a shave, tells Kat he didn’t want to send Mike home, preferring to get rid of Christina instead.

The girls decide they want to send Troyzan or Jay home next. What a surprise. The guys would deserve this outcome due to their stupidity.

Jay wants to get rid of Alicia. He still thinks the alliance is on. Troy is onboard with this plan. The girls say they are, too, except for Chelsea, who just smiles and nods.

Feeling he can trust the girls, particularly Kim and Chelsea, Jay is under the impression that everything is fine. Troyzan does not have that same level of trust and feels he needs to win immunity to stick around.

The endurance immunity challenge is to stand barefoot on a small wooden perch with their hands tethered to buckets, suspended above their heads. Within about 2.3 milliseconds, Tarzan is out. Christina drops out seconds before the cookies and milk are offered, leaving them for Sabrina instead. Kim and Kat drop out for cupcakes and milk. Alicia wants whatever Jeff offers next, sight unseen, which turns out to be a bowl full of candy. Troyzan drops after about 45 minutes. Jay hops off for chicken wings and beer. Stupid. Three burgers, chips, and a beer does not tempt either Leif or Chelsea. Leif, however, is tempted by Chelsea’s philosophy that losing makes him less of a threat, so he’s out. Chelsea wins immunity and gets to share some food.

The plan is to split the vote between Jay and Troyzan, with Troy being the target because his head’s actually in the game, in spite of the fact that he was so easily fooled last week.

Troy wants to use his idol, and he wants to vote for Kim. Jay insists he’s safe, and he refuses to turn on Kim. His other possible voting options are two seemingly expendable players, Tarzan and Christina.

Kim, Jay, and Troyzan raise their hands as being in danger, a notable increase from when everybody felt safe. Kim’s reasoning is that Jay told her she is Troy’s target, and she didn’t have enough time to reshuffle her proposed 5-3 vote.

As planned, Troyzan plays his hidden immunity idol.

Survivor: One World Episode 8

With the women voting against the men and the men following suit in Survivor: One World Episode 7, Jonas was eliminated because apparently he was a threat.

Jay and Troyzan have decided that the next vote needs to be a girl. They are worried about giving up the power. It’s a little late for that.

At the reward challenge, they will race down a waterslide, gather puzzle crates from the water, and solve those puzzles. The winning team will get a BBQ and some uncola. Jay, Troyzan, Kat, Alicia, and Chelsea go against Michael, Kim, Sabrina, Christina, and Leif. Tarzan is not chosen in the schoolyard picks, so he will not participate, to the disappointment of none. Jay and his team have a 1 piece lead as Christina heads back to work on the puzzle, not helping at all while the rest of her team carries their final piece. She nominates herself supervisor of puzzle building. This could have ended badly for her, but in the end they win as the other team squanders their lead and falls apart.

While the guys and Christina continue pigging out, Sabrina and Kim start talking strategy. They want to push the girls to the top and get rid of Mike.

Back at the beach, the losing team openly discuss their options. The men suggest Christina. The women here want to get rid of Mike, too.

As the wind picks up, Tarzan removes part of their bamboo wall to use for firewood. Here comes more yelling. He asks Chelsea if she’s happy with her breasts, since she seems to have a problem with plastic surgeons like himself.

Kim tells Troyzan that Mike wants to get rid of him. Doesn’t seem like it takes very much to get Troyzan upset or to buy a lie without questioning it.

At the immunity challenge, they will race across a bridge while maneuvering bags of puzzle pieces along a rope. The first four will move on to the puzzle stage of the challenge. Jay finishes first. Kim is second. Troyzan comes third. Mike was in it but blows it, and Alicia is the fourth to finish the first stage. This could take some time. I’m not sensing the smartest people have made it this far after what had been a largely physical start. The trick in this puzzle is that it can look right until the very last piece, which Alicia and Kim both find out the hard way. His slow and methodical approach pays off, and Jay wins immunity.

Chelsea asks Jay, right in front of Christina and Alicia, who supposedly are the enemy, what he thinks about getting rid of Mike. He responds that he’s scared of the girls. If they get rid of Mike, they’ll get rid of him next. Makes sense.

Mike tells us that he’d like to see a blindside because that’s always kind of fun. Good luck with that.

Survivor: One World Episode 7

In an anticlimactic end to one less funny than he thought castaway, Colton was eliminated for medical reasons in Survivor: One World Episode 6. Then the tribes merged.

Another night, another opportunity for us to hear about how Christina’s going home.

The new tribe name is Tikiano, a combination of tiki (god) and ano (year).

Tarzan wants to get the guys to stick together and join Alicia for the majority. Jay and Mike are not happy to be back in league with him, but they’re okay with having the numbers.

The challenge is to race through obstacles, dig for puzzle pieces, then solve the puzzle. Reward is pizza and beer, plus a secret note. They divide into two teams: Alicia, Jay, Sabrina, Chelsea, Christina, and Troyzan against Leif, Kat, Michael, Kim, Jonas, and Tarzan. Sending the biggest guy to dig proves to be better than sending the smallest guy. Kim continues her team’s struggle. The last person to go for her team, Sabrina, squanders the majority of their lead, leading to them being just about tied as they head into the puzzle. With Tarzan and Jonas struggling to communicate, their opponents win reward.

Heading into commercial, we take a look back at Parvati’s double hidden idol play and JT blindside. (Just had to Youtube it.) Parvati kicks ass. It would be nice if we had some players like that this season. Or last.

The secret note tells this random new team that there’s another new idol hidden at camp. I am sure they are all shocked. I bet it’s in a tree.

Jonas finds out about Tarzan’s plan of the guys sticking together. Somehow, this ends up with the two of them arguing and deciding they hate each other. And here I was worried we would be stuck with a lack of random excessive bitterness and hatred.

Troyzan wakes up early and begins his idol search. He is successful and finds himself a hidden immunity idol. Wait for it. In a tree.

The first individual immunity challenge is one of endurance. They will stand on a log while balancing balls. I await the double entendre. With just one ball on his disc, Tarzan is the first one to be eliminated. With two balls, Christina is out. Michael follows her. Then Chelsea and Kim. Those who remain will continue with three balls. Alicia is quickly out. Jay drops next. Jonas is out. Then Sabrina. Leif is out. Neither Troyzan nor Kat would seem to be in any danger regardless, but Troyzan outlasts Kat to win immunity.

Chelsea and Jay discuss an alternative to men vs. women. They talk about sticking to their tribes rather than genders, and Jay suggests voting out Jonas.

Learning that he’s on the chopping block leads Jonas to apologize to Tarzan for their earlier argument. They decide to vote for Kat. Not sure why.

In perhaps the most ridiculous Survivor argument yet, Tarzan’s shorts in the laundry become a big problem for some of the girls. He insists he knows a lot about microbiology, so whether his pants are soiled or not does not matter.

At tribal, Jonas makes an obvious point. Mike’s a bigger threat for immunity than he is. That said, he’s voting for him, in spite of Tarzan’s plan to get rid of Kat, as they don’t have the votes to accomplish that. In turn, Tarzan wants to get rid of Jonas again. That didn’t last.
