Big Brother 14 Episode 7

With Willie gone, Shane and Jojo were nominated in Big Brother 14 Episode 6. Then Shane won veto, and Danielle was nominated in his place.

I’m not sure it really matters which of these two weak players gets sent home. The most compelling reason to eliminate either one of them would seem to be to get rid of Dan, though he’d probably be back in a couple weeks anyway.

Dan told Danielle she’s on her own because he wanted to light a fire under her and make her fight for herself. Instead, she falls apart.

Ian’s in the have not room trying to get some sleep. Meanwhile, Shane and Jojo are talking about climbing on each other. Wait a second. I thought he was with Danielle. Well, whoever he’s with just became a bigger target.

Britney’s plan to save Jojo: do all the talking for her.

Dr. Will thinks Boogie’s doing a phenomenal job, though he’s concerned about his ego. He warns the others are about to be steamrolled. Dan picked a lot of chicks, Britney must be doing something wrong seeing as one of her players got evicted for violence, and Janelle has proved she sucks at strategy. He predicts Ian’s going to win.

Frank says he trusts Janelle and her players completely. Seeing as you nearly ran out of players to nominate this week, I think you might want to consider a plan B.

Votes
Wil: Jojo
Joe: Jojo
Ashley: Jojo
Shane: Danielle
Ian: Jojo
Jenn: Jojo

By a vote of 5-1, Jojo has been evicted from the Big Brother house, keeping Dan around but also bringing Britney down to just one player. Shane continues to remain loyal to a sinking ship. Not sure whether that hurts him or earns him points, but since his alliance is now all gone, I’m leaning toward the latter.

Like when she was in the house, Jojo doesn’t shut the hell up and listen to people, talking the entire time her goodbye messages are playing.

The HOH competition involves shooting balls with hockey sticks into the slot with the highest number. Odd numbers are on the left side in ascending order, then the even numbers are on the right in descending order, making the middle the sweet spot. Ashley scores 4. Joe scores 3. Jenn does not score. Ian scores 9 to take the lead. Wil score 2. Shane scores 20, the highest number. So apparently they are considering his arguably not far enough shot sufficient to count. Danielle scores 12. Shane wins HOH, once again coincidentally shifting power back to the person in danger just a week before.

Getting back to the discussion about the coaches entering the game, it’s time for America’s vote. Should the coaches remain as coaches, or should they become players? At least America doesn’t get the chance to decide between the four coaches because you know they’d get that wrong.

America’s Got Talent Season 7 Episode 21

When the judges said that there was a lot of talent in store in America’s Got Talent Season 7 Episode 20, the natural response was to mock them, especially after the joke that was last week’s show. However, it turned out to be true, and the result was a bunch of acts that deseve to advance to the next round.

Ulysses, Olate Dogs, and David “The Bullet” Smith are first. It was obvious Ulysses had no chance from the start. Either of the other two could make it, but Olate just has the more viable Vegas show and all the animal lovers supporting them. They are the first act to advance.

William Close, Unity in Motion, and Sebastien “El Charro de Oro” are the second group. I was expecting both of the first two acts to make it, which they probably would have any other week. Instead, only William Close advances.

Joe Castillo, Eric & Olivia, and Horse are the third trio. It’s clear that Joe is the one to advance here.

The final set of acts is Lindsey Norton, Eric Dittelman, and All That!. Less than 1% separates each of these three acts in the voting. Lindsey is out. That leaves Eric as the obvious choice. Howie votes for Dittelman. Sharon votes for All That. Howard breaks the tie with a vote for Dittelman.

We’re not done yet. Sharon picks All That as her wild card act, so they’re coming back anyway.

With the Olympics being on for the next couple of weeks, America’s Got Talent will be on hiatus until August 14, returning with the Youtube show.

Big Brother 14 Episode 6

We skipped past the results in Big Brother 14 Episode 5 so Willie could be kicked out of the house after he flipped out because the whole house hated him for… some reason. Tonight some results.

Britney and her team blame Willie for the fact that they’re targets, but they made their own bed no matter how much of a jerk he may have been.

Boogie wants to use a pawn so they can get rid of Shane, but his new ally for the week Janelle is not happy with that plan. Shane may have joined in the Willie hate and helped push him over the line, but he needed him in this house because now he’s the biggest target.

Nominations
Ashley has immunity.
Jenn is safe.
Ian is safe.
Joe is safe.
Wil is safe.
Danielle is safe.
Shane and Jojo have been nominated for eviction.

In spite of the nominations and the fact that he just nominated him, Boogie suggests that Frank should try to get in good with Shane. We saw how well that went last week.

Frank chooses Ian at random to partcipate in the veto competition, Shane picks Ashley, and Jojo picks Wil. This leaves Danielle, the likely replacement nominee, with no hope of defending herself. Not that anybody thought she was going to win anyway.

They are brought outside for a Mexican inspired veto competition, complete with margaritas for the spectators. The participants are dressed as chips who must dip themselves while looking for menu items to build a complete menu. Since this is basically a memory game, you’d think Ian is going to win, though speed and not falling also play a part. In a close race between Ian and Shane, Shane finishes first. Meanwhile, Ashley is trying to figure out why fajita has a j in it.

Ashley gets 13 out of 16 correct. Wil gets all 16 correct and has the fifth fastest time. Frank also has them all right to take the lead. Jojo has them all right, too. Ian does as well. Rounding out the results, Shane has everything right and has the fastest time, so he has won the power of veto.

With Shane saving himself, the logical replacement becomes the other person who voted to get rid of Frank, Danielle. In what was looking like a good week to get rid of a big threat, Frank seems to be left with the two least threatening people as his targets.

Following the competition, Shane says he’d like to make a final two deal with Frank. Boogie asks him to not tell anybody. He complies with this request, telling Britney and Jojo that no deal was struck.

Shane suggests an alternate plan rather than continuing to decimate Dan’s and Britney’s already down teams. He wants Danielle (also one of his allies) to be kept safe so that they can work together with Frank and target Janelle’s team, taking out the second biggest physical threat in the house, Wil.

At the veto ceremony, Shane saves himself. Danielle is the replacement nominee.

America’s Got Talent Season 7 Episode 20

Following a terrible performance night, four decent acts made their way to the next round in America’s Got Talent Season 7 Episode 19. Tonight 12 more acts perform: Eric & Olivia, Sebastien “El Charro de Oro”, Horse, All That!, Eric Dittelman, Joe Castillo, Olate Dogs, Unity in Motion, Ulysses, William Close, Lindsey Norton, and David “The Bullet” Smith.

First everyone heads outside for David “The Bullet” Smith’s human cannonball act. He scores a human field goal. I’d guess this is probably cooler live than it is on TV, though either way I wonder how it would be a 90 minute show in Vegas.

All That! is an all male clogging act, but you wouldn’t guess that by looking at them. They make clogging cooler than you’d think. Sharon suggests a leather and topless performance next time, with oil. Howie and Howard tell us about how the talent tonight sucks less than it normally does, so this is going to be tough.

Ulysses is a retro TV show theme song singer. Well. Then. Howard buzzes. Sharon buzzes. Leave it to Howie to let it keep going, but he does finally buzz at the very end. Howard compares him to the recession and terrorism, but no offense.

Joe Castillo stumbled upon sand art by accident. He’s a talented artist, and his story about what we’re doing to the planet and those who live on it is fascinating to watch.

Sebastien “El Charro de Oro” is like any other kid, aside from his singing of mariachi love songs. I’m not sure this style of music in a foreign language can appeal to a broad enough audience, but in spite of that, Sebastien has the talent and the charisma that he may well pull it off.

Eric Dittelman has secretly wanted to be a game show host. So tonight he has created a game of Deal or No Deal. He correctly guesses which case Howie will choose.

William Close builds totally unique instruments, including his earth harp, which turns the entire theater into an instrument. This music looks like it would be awesome live, though I suspect it loses quite a bit in translation over the air. Howie says it’s over. He won. Sharon calls him the best thing she has ever seen on this stage. Howard would be willing to put up his own money and produce a show with this guy.

Unity in Motion is the act Howard warned Turf about. They mix dance, tumbling, and a bit of contortion. Howard reiterates that this is the best dance act in the competition. Howie, however, does not believe it was good enough.

Eric & Olivia are a singing and guitar duo that I still don’t get, as it’s her voice that either carries or lets down the act. Howie thinks they should stick to lounges and coffee houses. Howard didn’t think that was good enough either.

An overly perky Lindsey Norton is another contortion and dance act. I think she’s going to fall short of Unity in Motion.

Each night there has to be a pointless act. Tonight’s jackass is Horse, who just gets hit in the nuts repeatedly.

The final act of the night is Olate Dogs, featuring half a dozen dogs doing tricks, all very well trained to perform some tricks I’ve never seen a dog do before.

Mariah Carey Joins American Idol As Judge

After two judges quit American Idol (care to make it three, Randy?), now it’s time to start replacing them. It was rumored that Mariah was being considered for X Factor, but she was pregnant at the time. No longer pregnant, now she’s been snapped up by Fox’s other singing competition.

As far as singing talent goes, I don’t think they could find a higher caliber person for their panel, even though I can’t point to anything compelling she’s done since the 90s. Unfortunately, talent does not necessarily equate to judging ability, but anyone has to be better than Jennifer and Steven. Granted, I said that same thing when Paula Abdul left (both shows).

“As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with AMERICAN IDOL,” said Mariah Carey. “I’m currently in the studio working on my new album and its first single, ‘Triumphant,’ which will be out early next month. I can’t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon.”

“We are proud to have one of the world’s greatest-ever female singers join our show,” said IDOL creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. “Mariah defines the word ‘Idol’ and will inspire every singer that has the honor of performing in front of her.”

“Mariah Carey is a global icon whose list of musical accomplishments is unprecedented,” said Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO, FremantleMedia. “Having sold more than 200 million records worldwide, she’s a true artist, ideally suited to identify and nurture AMERICAN IDOL’s next great music superstars. We warmly welcome her to the IDOL family.”

“Mariah Carey is the real deal. Not only is she one of the best-selling artists and performers on the planet and one of the world’s most gifted vocalists, she also is a successful songwriter, record producer and actress,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “She has a deep knowledge of music and a career insight that will make her a really amazing asset to our judges’ table and to our contestants. It’s the dream of almost everyone who auditions for IDOL to sing like Mariah and we couldn’t be happier to have her be part of the show.”

Big Brother 14 Episode 5

Frank narrowly escaped eviction against Kara in Big Brother 14 Episode 4, so of course shortly thereafter he became the new HOH.

Ashley says she got rid of Kara because Kara was just going to fly under the radar, which she doesn’t like because that’s her strategy. A dull strategy, but a safe one.

Even Britney has accepted the fact that her player Willie is a sinking ship and needs to go.

Not having much of a team any more nor an alliance with Boogie, Dan sends Danielle to partner with Janelle. She’d rather have a showmance with Shane.

Ian wants to have a slop date with Ashley. She likes nerdy guys, which in the Big Brother house gives her one option. This is as odd a couple as they come, but the date seems to go fine.

The coaches have to compete on balance beams while wearing ridiculous clothes that are apparently supposed to be 90s hip hop (was there hip hop then?). They have to transfer all their cash one brick at a time from one side to the other. Britney, the only one who would actually want to get rid of one of her players, takes a big early lead, but she drops some of her cash, which is instant elimination. Dan has no interest in winning because he wants to be seen as the weak coach (tough sell), which makes it a competition between Boogie and Janelle. Boogie wins by a couple stacks. Or does he? He jumps off, then he hits the button. Disqualified. Janelle wins by default, which she takes to mean the comp queen is back in the house.

After winning, Janelle declines to trade one of her players. Instead, she opts to keep Ashley safe. Willie, Jojo, Shane, and Ian are have nots, the latter two for a second week in a row. In addition to slop, they get pork rinds and pudding.

Willie wants to round up his old team, but Britney vetoes it. Shane refuses to talk to him, but Jojo has to be told no. Britney rides Willie, who in turn goes upstairs to confront the people in the HOH room to tell them he messed it up so don’t take it out on others. I’m still not sure what he did to end up in this position, but Willie’s quickly becoming the leper of the house.

He assumes he’s out anyway, and not only does everybody hate him, but now not a soul will talk to him, which in such a confined environment where all there is to do is talk could get problematic real quick. So if he’s going down, he’s going down swinging. Joe says something to him in passing, which leads to shouting and a headbutt. Violence is a sure way to get kicked off a reality show, and so officially ends Willie’s game. Hopefully this is the last Hantz family member CBS has in store for us.

Britney and her players think he should have stuck around to continue to be walked on. Now they’re screwed because it would seem the target that was previously on Willie shifts to Jojo and Shane, which ironically enough is exactly what they were trying to avoid by saying they can’t talk to him any more.

Big Brother 14 Episode 4

Shane won the veto and opted not to use it in Big Brother 14 Episode 3, helping to ensure conflict between the ill-fated and already outnumbered Boogie/Dan alliance.

Frank thinks Willie is the key for him to stay in the house, and Willie tells him he doesn’t have to worry because he’s safe. He doesn’t need to do much talking to convince his already convinced teammates to get rid of Kara. Janelle goes to Dan to tell him the plan, in full view of the rest of the house.

Britney’s starting to suspect that the coaches will somehow make their way into the game at some point. There are too few players for too many weeks. She tells this to Willie and makes him swear not to tell anybody. So he calls a house meeting with no coaches allowed.

The plan for votes, as if there’s a hidden immunity idol in play, is for the votes to be split so that it doesn’t look like the blonde side is working together. Hearing this, Frank has decided he doesn’t trust Willie. I would have thought him nominating you was the first hint.

Not content with Willie’s reassurances that he’s safe, Frank starts to talk about Willie to the others. Yelling ensues, and Boogie latches on to stir the pot further.

Ian says the house is living up to his expectations, and he has hasn’t been bored once. How is that possible? There’s really not much to do but talk and talk and talk. You really need to love the sound of your own voice.

Votes
Danielle: Frank
Shane: Frank
Joe: Kara
Ian: Kara
Jojo: Frank
Jenn: Kara
Wil: Kara
Ashley: Kara

By a vote of 5-3, Kara has been evicted from the Big Brother house. Frank’s alternate strategy of branding Willie a bully seems to have worked, as only Willie’s and Kara’s teammates ended up voting against him.

Kara’s eviction brings Dan down to just 1 person left. This seems to make him a useless coach, until such time as somebody needs a swing vote.

The preparation for the HOH competition will go on all night. Each time they are awakened, they watch breaking news reports about a burglar in the house. The competition tests whether they have paid attention. Everybody gets the first question right. Shane is eliminated on the second question. Everybody other than Wil and Frank are out on the third question. Because of the way the burglar was sitting, I got that wrong, and I just watched it. They are both incorrect on the next question. They are both correct on the next question. Wil is incorrect, and Frank is the new HOH as the power swings, as it always conveniently does.

Boogie promises loyalty to those who kept Frank safe. Words are cheap in the Big Brother house, but Frank targeting Willie and one other person from his team seems like a pretty logical guess.

Julie has some news for the coaches. The winner of this week’s competition can either keep one of their players safe or trade one of their players (anyone other than the HOH). Britney may wish to offload one of her liabilities, but other than that, I’m not seeing a compelling reason to switch.

America’s Got Talent Season 7 Episode 19

Even some of the good acts fell apart in America’s Got Talent Season 7 Episode 18, leaving America hard pressed to find 4 acts worth voting for.

Rock Star Juggler Mike Price, Jacob Williams, and Cristin Sandun are up first. The juggler dropped, and the circus act fell, leaving funny comedian Jacob Williams as the only logical choice of the three. If he didn’t fall, Cristin could have been a contender.

Lightwire Theater, Inspire the Fire, and All Beef Patty puts two more mediocre acts against a clear favorite, as Lightwire Theater is the obvious choice to get through.

Elusive, The Untouchables, and Jake Wesley Rogers are next. The two dance acts were among the second tier acts of the night, but Jake’s performance of a bad Britney Spears song sealed his fate. The Untouchables are the third act to move on.

All Wheel Sports, Wordspit and the Illest!, and Spencer Horsman are the last group. Spencer Horsman is eliminated. I find him more interesting than the other two acts, though I agree last night was not his best work. Seeing as two of the three judges gave Wordspit a hard time about their bad song, I don’t see them advancing. Howard votes for Wordspit. Howie votes for All Wheel Sports. Sharon votes for All Wheel Sports, allowing them to advance to the next round.
