American Idol Season 10 Episode 31

The top six performed in American Idol Season 10 Episode 30. Tonight one more person will be sent home.

Haley Reinhart steps forward first. By some miracle, she is safe.

Scotty McCreery is up next. He is going to relax for a minute. Really, Seacrest? Lauren Alaina goes next. She, too, can relax for a minute. Okay, tired of this game already. Casey Abrams next. He attemps to explain his lame growling, but regardless, his result can wait a moment.

James Durbin is next. He is safe.

Now the others return to the stage. Lauren is safe.

Jacob Lusk and Casey are in the bottom three as expected/usual… alongside Scotty? That’s different. Jacob is safe. The person that leaves the competition tonight is Casey Abrams.

American Idol Season 10 Episode 30

Stefano was finally eliminated in American Idol Season 10 Episode 29. Tonight the top 6 perform and hopefully will be able to put together a show that’s close to as good as The Voice (but I doubt it). This week’s theme is songs from Carole King. If you say so.

Jacob Lusk
Song: Oh No Not My Baby
Steven: About time you shook your tail feathers.
Jennifer: Not perfect, but you brought the performance.
Randy: You brought yourself back.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-01 or 1-866-IDOLS-07

Lauren Alaina
Song: Where You Lead
Jennifer: So proud of you. Felt you pushing.
Randy: Song was a little safe and boring, but you came out with a vengeance.
Steven: Saw you shine tonight.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-02 or 1-866-IDOLS-08

Here’s how they plan to fill in the night. Everybody will be singing duets. Haley and Casey have drawn the short straw and are paired up together.

Haley Reinhart & Casey Abrams
Song: I Feel the Earth Move
Steven: Really good.

Scotty McCreery
Song: You’ve Got a Friend
Randy: Beginning was flawless. Didn’t know you had that range.
Steven: Don’t think you ever sang better.
Jennifer: That’s why we couldn’t let you get away with what you did last week. Getting much better at reaching for that higher register in your voice.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-03 or 1-866-IDOLS-09

James Durbin
Song: Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow
Steven: Had me sold right in the beginning.
Jennifer: Magical. You are going to be the star of the night. Strong every single week.
Randy: Not just a great rock singer. Proved you are a great singer. One of the performances of the last couple months. Might just win the whole thing.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-04 or 1-866-IDOLS-10

Scotty McCreery & Lauren Alaina
Song: Up on the Roof
Jennifer: Lauren, you sing your… brains off. You did a real good job, too, Scotty.

Casey Abrams
Song: Hi-De-Ho
Randy: Like this song was written for you. Took me back to New Orleans.
Steven: Found your niche.
Jennifer: In your element.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-05 or 1-866-IDOLS-11

Haley Reinhart
Song: Beautiful
Steven: Nailed it.
Jennifer: One of the best voices in this competition.
Randy: I didn’t get it.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-06 or 1-866-IDOLS-12

Jacob Lusk & James Durbin
Song: I’m Into Something Good
Steven: You guys were having fun. Where were you going with all that?

American Idol Season 10 Episode 29

The top 7 performed in American Idol Season 10 Episode 28. Tonight one more will be sent home.

Will Casey’s increasing badness combined with a bit of creepiness be the thing that saves him? Will Haley or Stefano finally get eliminated, or even more surprisingly not be part of the bottom three? Will one of the judges say something worth listening to? Whatever the case, fewer contestants probably means more filler.

Casey Abrams and Jacob Lusk stand up first. Either of them could easily be in danger. Casey is safe. Jacob is in the bottom three.

Lauren Alaina, James Durbin, and Stefano Langone are up next. So basically that means Stefano is in the bottom three.

Haley Reinhart and Scotty McCreery are the last two. Obviously again, this time Haley heads to the bottom three.

That brings it down to a toss up between Jacob, Stefano, and Haley. It wouldn’t be surprising to see any of the three go, and whoever does survive will probably be returning to the bottom again next week. Haley is safe. Steven says nobody deserves to be standing there now. He loves them all. Yeah, we noticed with the lack of helpful critiques he’s given. The person leaving us tonight is Stefano.

American Idol Season 10 Episode 28

Paul McDonald was finally put out of his misery in American Idol Season 10 Episode 27. Tonight the top 7 perform songs from the 21st century. Really?

Scotty McCreery
Song: Swingin’ by Leann Rimes
Jennifer: Love your story telling quality. Time to pull out the big guns.
Randy: So safe. Kinda boring.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-01

James Durbin
Song: Uprising by Muse
Jennifer: That will be theatrically the best performance of the night.
Randy: Hope you follow this direction when you make a record. Slayed it.
Steven: Took it up again.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-02

Haley Reinhart
Song: Rolling in the Deep by Adele
Randy: Perfect direction for you.
Steven: Little slow at the start but did it in the middle.
Jennifer: Moments where you actually brought Haley to it.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-03

Jacob Lusk
Song: Dance with My Father by Luther Vandross
Steven: Your daddy was up there listening to you, and it was a beautiful thing.
Jennifer: Emotionally, it was a beautiful performance.
Randy: Vocally, it was just good.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-04

Casey Abrams
Song: Harder to Breathe by Maroon 5
Jennifer: Casey’s got soft lips. I loved it. The performance.
Randy: Continue to take chances.
Steven: Bleep bleep bleep.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-05

Stefano Langone
Song: Closer by Ne-Yo
Randy: Very good job. Took your time at the beginning and kind of worked the dance steps out.
Jennifer: Speaking for the girls, I thought it was very very good. Felt like a concert.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-06

Lauren Alaina
Song: Born to Fly by Sara Evans
Steven: So good naturally.
Jennifer: So much color in your voice.
Randy: You can do it. You must believe.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-07

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of American Idol Season 10 Episode 29, which airs Thursday at 8/7c on Fox.

American Idol Season 10 Episode 27

The top 8 performed in American Idol Season 10 Episode 26. Tonight one more will go home.

As per usual, the judges loved everything, and this time they really loved Casey for some mystery reason. I give up trying to figure out who’s going home because it’s not as if this panel is providing any direction. Let’s just sit back and enjoy the moderately acceptable singing that we’d skip past if this were radio.

Scotty and Lauren are actually quite good together. I could see these two collaborating with each other at some point. They are joined by Casey and Haley in the lineup first. Haley could easily be in the bottom again, but I’m on the fence about Casey because the judges so humiliatingly fawned over him. Scotty is safe. Lauren is also safe. Haley is in the bottom three, and Casey is safe.

James, Jacob, Stefano, and and Paul are up next. Obviously, James is going to be safe. It could be any of the other three below the line. I fear it will not be Paul, though. Stefano is in the bottom three. Paul joins him.

Either Stefano Langone, Paul McDonald, or Haley Reinhart will be going home. I don’t know. Does it really matter which? Haley is safe, so this will mark the first time a girl is not sent packing this season. I didn’t think it was going to happen, but Paul has finally been eliminated.

American Idol Season 10 Episode 26

American Idol Season 10 Episode 25 really emphasized one reason why Simon Cowell was such an important part of the show. Steven thinks everything is beautiful/perfect. Jennifer is only slightly more useful. Then there’s Randy, whose only criticism aside from pitchy is boring, which he called Thia and Pia, both with the same result of getting them booted when they previously were not in danger because the parrots in the audience started having that same opinion. Pia’s exit last week was called one of the most shocking ever, but the warning signs were there, whether it was still surprising or not. If they’re that afraid of a contestant leaving, they probably shouldn’t use the save the first time the opportunity presents itself, and they should go for the jugular on the weaker contestants rather than offering up occasional random critiques when the mood suits them. If Alabama’s own Paul McDonald isn’t any good, feel free to call him on it. Simon would have.

This week is movie week, and Seacrest hopes people are still watching.

Paul McDonald
Song: Old Time Rock and Roll by Bob Seger from Risky Business
Steven: I liked it.
Jennifer: So great to watch.
Randy: First number at the Paul McDonald concert.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-01

Lauren Alaina
Song: The Climb by Miley Cyrus from Hannah Montana The Movie
Jennifer: Loved hearing you sing that.
Randy: The Lauren we first saw is roaring back. Like that was written for you.
Steven: Beautiful.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-02

Stefano Langone
Song: End of the Road by Boyz II Men from Boomerang
Randy: Just slayed the song. And I know Boyz II Men.
Steven: You know how to milk a song.
Jennifer: It’s about being a great performer. You now understand that.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-03

Scotty McCreery
Song: Cross My Heart by George Strait from Pure Country (we get the hint)
Steven: Just love your voice.
Jennifer: Everybody wants us to be tough with you guys. (Or at least offer some criticism of some use.)
Randy: Love it when you return and stay with your roots. A star is born.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-04

Casey Abrams
Song: Nature Boy by Nat King Cole from multiple movies (against Jimmy’s advice)
Jennifer: You don’t have to be a pop star. (Well, that’s good then.) I hope America got that. (I don’t.)
Randy: Real true artists on this show. I hope America gets this. Genius.
Steven: My mama sang this to me when I was a little baby.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-05

Haley Reinhart
Song: Call Me by Blondie from American Gigolo
Randy: Didn’t love the beginning. Kinda karaoke.
Steven: Agree, but you nailed the chorus.
Jennifer: Love the end. Agree with Randy but afraid to say anything about any of the girls.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-06

Jacob Lusk
Song: Bridge Over Trouble Waters by Simon & Garfunkel from The Pursuit of Happyness
Steven: How well you put together a song is just incredible.
Jennifer: Pulled the chills out of me.
Randy: Perfect, perfect, perfect harmony.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-07

James Durbin
Song: Heavy Metal by Sammy Hagar from Heavy Metal (Jimmy hates it)
Jennifer: Killing it dead.
Randy: Just at a James Durbin concert.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-08

Stay tuned to dingoRUE for another live recap of American Idol Season 10 Episode 27, which airs Thursday at 8/7c on Fox.

American Idol Season 10 Episode 25

The top 9 performed in American Idol Season 10 Episode 24. Tonight one more will go home.

It’s anybody’s game. Unless James, Scotty, or Pia go home, I won’t be very surprised by whatever happens. I can’t see that happening, but this leaves us with a lot of choices. Haley was the bottom three queen, but she’s come on strong, especially last night. Paul’s worster support seems to be on its last legs. Jacob’s struggling to be the stand out he was initially. Lauren’s kind of just there, but for her sake hopefully somewhere in the middle. Casey fell hard and already got voted out once. Stefano, meanwhile, wasn’t even voted in to begin with, relying on the wild card to make it to the top 13.

Stefano Langone, Lauren Alaina, and Casey Abrams step forward first. Lauren is safe. Casey is also safe, leaving Stefano in the bottom three.

Paul McDonald, Pia Toscano, and Scotty McCreery are up next. Scotty is safe. Paul is safe. Really, America? Really? That means Pia is in the bottom three.

James Durbin, Haley Reinhart, and Jacob Lusk are the final group. Because he’s got a following already built, James is safe. Haley is also safe. That makes Jacob the final person to join the bottom three.

Stefano, Pia, and Jacob have formed the bottom three. Pia notwithstanding, this is not too unexpected. Jacob is safe. Stefano is also safe. That means that Pia is leaving us. The judges are angry. Should have saved their save.

Okay, contestants. Reality check. Thia was told to do up tempo by Randy. She obliged. She was sent home the following week, having never previously been in the bottom. Pia was told to do up tempo by Randy. She obliged. She was sent home the same week, having never previously been in the bottom. Ballad singers, do what you do best and don’t focus on impressing Randy by listening to his bad advice. Granted, when he keeps harping on his opinion that you’re boring, he’s pretty much torpedoing any chance you have anyway since it’s not like another judge on the panel is capable of countering him without Simon around any more. But you may as well go down swinging.

In his parting (cut off by Tivo) plea, Ryan asks the audience to stick around this season. So begins the damage control.

American Idol Season 10 Episode 24

The double elimination in American Idol Season 10 Episode 23 meant the end of the road for both Naima and Thia. Tonight the top 9 perform songs from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Jacob Lusk
Song: Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson (not Let’s Get It On)
Jennifer: You can do anything if you believe in yourself.
Randy: So proud of you. That was hot.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-01

He tells us that if he’s in the bottom three, it’s because America can’t look at themselves in the mirror. Really?

Haley Reinhart
Song: Piece of My Heart by Janis Joplin
Jennifer: You’re a contender.
Randy: That’s the Haley we loved when we first saw you. Welcome back.
Steven: Nothing wrong with that. Took it up a few notchees.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-02

Casey Abrams
Song: Have You Ever Seen the Rain by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Randy: Made CCR proud. Making the upright bass cool.
Steven: Not just a singer. A true musician.
Jennifer: I’m paying top dollar to be in the front row.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-03

Lauren Alaina
Song: Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin
Steven: Tonight you are a natural born woman.
Randy: Probably picked one of the most difficult songs. Not jumping up and down, but you did a good job. Some people in past seasons (Kelly Clarkson in season 1) really laid it out.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-04

James Durbin
Song: While My Guitar Gently Weeps by George Harrison
Jennifer: Nice to see that other side of you.
Randy: Loved seeing the emotional side of James Durbin.
Steven: Good to see you gently weep.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-05

Scotty McCreery
Song: That’s Alright Mama by Elvis Presley
Randy: Scotty is in it to win it. You can perform.
Steven: Brought Elvis into the house. Heard girls screaming in the audience.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-06

Pia Toscano
Song: River Deep, Mountain High by Tina Turner (as promised, though I’d have rather heard another ballad)
Steven: Murderer. You killed it.
Jennifer: Proved you can sing an up tempo.
Randy: Showed what I already knew. You can deliver on an up tempo.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-07

Stefano Langone
Song: When a Man Loves a Woman by Percy Sledge
Jennifer: Felt maybe for the first time you were singing to somebody.
Randy: First part felt a little jerky but liked it.
Steven: Nailed it. Lot of passion.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-08

Paul McDonald
Song: Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash
Randy: I loved it.
Steven: I loved it.
Jennifer: I loved it.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-09
