Don’t mess with Dick Cheney! This is one of the funner mash-ups I’ve come across lately. It’s Dick Cheney speaking at the Republican National Convention, only not.

Kinky Boots Review
The other night we made use of a free DVD rental we had amassed at Blockbuster and took the oppertunity to pick up a copy of Kinky Boots. We’ve been trying to get the movie since it came out, but the Blockbuster near our house only got two copies of the movie for some reason and it was out everytime we went. But we got lucky and finally got a copy, yay! Now, on to the Kinky Boots Mini-Review:
Kinky Boots is a UK flick that came out late in 2005 and was just recently released on DVD. The movie is based on a true story and, from the special features included on the DVD, it seems like they actually kept the movie quite close to the true story, which is definitely a rarity now-a-days.
The Price & Sons Shoe Factory has been in business for years in Northamptonshire and has been passed down from generation to generation. In a sudden change of events, Charlie Price’s father suffers a sudden and unexpected death, forcing Charlie to follow in his dear ol’ dads foot steps, only problem is, he’s terrible with shoes and the industry is taking a huge dump. For years the Price & Son’s factory has produced well made, high quality oxford shoes but there’s no longer a market for plain, well made shoes with cheap, foreign imports flooding the market.
Free Transit From Translink
To all you folks out there that are still in school (high school, that is), be sure to take advantage of a new offer Translink has running until Friday, October 6th, 2006.
For all students between Kindergarten and Grade 12, transit of all forms is completely FREE until October 6th, 2006, as long as you have a student ID to prove you’re a student.
Translink is offering the free ride to all school students to promote international “walk to school week”, if such a thing really exists, and in the hopes of making kids “think outside the car” when it comes to transportation.
From October 2 through 6, students from kindergarten through Grade 12 are being encouraged to walk or take alternate modes of transportation to get to school. TransLink will make transit an easier choice by providing free rides for students on Coast Mountain and West Vancouver buses, SeaBus, SkyTrain and West Coast Express during that time.
This is a great way to get from A to B if you qualify and can save you some cash. Naturally it’s only running during the week, so if you’re skipping school to hit the mall, take the bus and save some cash. Oh, and they don’t stipulate any times anywhere, they don’t say is has to be during school hours, to take full advantage and ride for free at night too. Taking advantage of Translink is like taking advantage of Starbucks, only less free starbucks coffee and more stinky people.
Stupid World Records
Matt McAllister of 99.9 KTYD’s The Early Show, a radio show in Santa Barbara, CA, set quite possibly one of the oddest Guiness World Records I’ve ever seen but putting on as many shirt as possible in 4 hours.
The Results?
- 155 Shirts
- 100 Extra Lbs
- 4 Hours of Wasted Time
- And one stupid video to prove it all
Good Deals in Vancouver
Being the cheap bastard that I am, when Chrys and I were thinking about going out for dinner and the various other things we might do over the weekend, I hit the interweb and started to deal search. After all, what sense is there in paying full price if you don’t have to, right? Right.
We ended up going to Original Joe’s on Broadway and Cambie for dinner, which I didn’t find any coupons for, but is well worth paying full price for anyhow. It’s been over a year now since we’ve been to Original Joe’s, the last time we were there was when Chrys & I went to pick up her wedding dress. It is a bar, but there is just something about it that has a homey, relaxing feeling to it. We always both feel really comfortable when eating there and, the best part, the food is always really good and a good price. They also have beer special everyday and are one of the few places in Vancouver that sells Russel’s Cream Ale, which, if you haven’t tried it yet, just so happens to be the best beer on the face of the earth, and it’s made by a local Vancouver brewery. Yay, local! Original Joe’s is well worth giving a shot if you’re looking for a yummy meal of comfort food and a good beer. I highly recommend the Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich, very tastey.
Anyways, back to the good deals in Vancouver portion of the post. I was originally on the search for an illusive 2 for 1 Vancouver Aquarium coupon from the newest Yellow Pages or this years Entertainment book, but alas, I couldn’t manage to find one. Speaking of which, anyone know where I can get a Vancouver Entertainment Book? Anyhow, on my search I found a few websites with some good coupons and deals on restaurants and various other things around Vancouver. Check them out before heading out for a night on the city and you could just save yourself a few bucks.
DatersCorner.com
FoodVancouver.com
VancouverAttractions.com
PriceNetwork.ca
PriceGrabber.ca
Enjoy! And please, let me know if you have any sites you use for coupons and various other good deals in Vancouver.
Amazing Race 10 Recap: Duke & Lauren Eliminated
This weeks episode of Aamazing Race 10 stars off as usual, with a brief recap of what went down in last weeks Amazing Race 10 episode.
Peter & Sarah were the first team to finish the last leg of the race, as such, they were the first to head out on this leg. They both leave at 6:54am and head for Hanoi, Vietnam where they will search for the “Hanoi Hilton” Prison.
All teams get $0 to start this leg of the race and will be left to rely on whatever money they have left over from previous legs. They are also not allowed to beg or sell anything to make more money. This will certainly prove to be a lot harder for some teams than others.
In order to get to Hanoi, Vietnam via Mongolia all teams must go to the Ghengis Chan hotel where they will buy plane tickets to Vietnam. Big downer for the teams in the lead, the travel agent doesn’t open until 9:00am, at which time almost all the teams have arrived and are battling it out for a spot with one of four vendors, which also doesn’t matter, since everyone gets on the same flight.
Dustin & Kandice cut the line on Tom & Terry and the boys whine and cry like 3 year olds for a few mins before making some snarky comments, giving up and waiting back in line.
All the teams get booked on the 1:00pm flight to Beijing, where they will connect to Hanoi, Vietnam.
Duke & Lauren are falling behind at the airport because, for some stupid reason, Duke decided he wanted to wait for a lady he met on the plane to get help finding where they need to go. Big mistake, as waiting for her to get back to the cab uses up precious time and, to top it off, she wants to be taken to her brothers house before they head to where they need to go. The kicker, her brothers house is 30mins out of the way and they’re no going to have enough money to pay the cab driver. HA! Idiots.

Technical Difficulties
Looks like the site was down for a while for some stupid reason. I’m not entirely sure how long it was down for but I figured out the problem and got it all fixed up, so tonight’s Amazing Race 10 Recap will be up at the usual time. Stay tuned.
Old Woodwards Building Implosion
As I’m sure almost every Vancouver resident knows by now, today marked the official ending of an era as the old Woodwards building in Downtown Vancouver was imploded today. I’ve been sick and didn’t want to drag my butt out of bed to go watch it, so I’ve been watching videos and checking out pics to see what there is. This is, by far, the best video and angle I’ve been able to find:
