Survivor: Africa Episode 6

The tribe shuffle screwed Silas over, and he was voted off the island in Survivor: Africa Episode 5.

Before they left tribal council, as if voting off a member wasn’t bad enough (not that they minded that part very much), Jeff Probst made sure to cast doubt into the tribe’s minds whether there would actually be a merge in three days. They have planned their food rationing according to the assumption of when the merge would be. If the merge is not when they think it is, they have no food.

Tom and Lex don’t like that their fellow tribemates are only doing an hour and a half or two hours at night on watch duty, while they get stuck with three hours or more. Their most recent shift was five hours. Lindsey asks “Was it? Really?”

Boran realizes it’s all about past votes in the event of a 3-3 tie. Unlike the other side where Frank and Teresa needed no convincing at all, they are not considering eating their own.

No eggs yet, so it’s time to kill a chicken, or at least that’s Clarence’s hope because he is looking forward to the slaughter a little too much.

The reward challenge is based on a series of questions about Africa. First tribe to reach the finish gets reward, which is Mountain Dew, fresh pasta, sandwiches, and cookies. Tom sits out for Samburu.

The closest ocean to Kenya is the Atlantic. True or false?
False. Indian Ocean. Both are right.

To save the elephant population in Kenya, military rangers are instructed to shoot to kill ivory poachers. True or false?
True. Both are right.

On safari, the animals known as the big five are the elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, and what other animal?
Leopard. Samburu is correct. Following Kim J’s lead, Boran is incorrect.

Diurnal is a term used to describe what?
Animals that are more prevalent by day. Both are correct.

Kenya’s Lake Victoria is the world’s largest salt water lake. True or false?
False. It’s not the largest, and it’s fresh water. Samburu wins reward.

Now that they know Silas is gone, Lindsey realizes she probably played stupidly with her power trip.

As much as Clarence wants to accidentally kill one of the chickens, the rest of the tribe wants to give them more time to lay some eggs. If they don’t lay an egg, it’s on them. If they lay an egg by tomorrow morning, he agrees to spare them. The next morning they wake up, and Kim finds a single egg. Aw, hell no. They did it just to spite him. After tormenting Clarence for a bit, the others agree to kill a chicken for dinner anyway.

Lindsey believes that Kelly may be fearful of her demise, and thus willing to make a deal.

At the challenge, Kim J kept giving her old tribe a signal of an L. Is she calling them losers? Does she want them to throw the challenge? Oh. Maybe it means Lindsey. Kelly thinks that, also, Kim’s signal for the number 4 is B in sign language, meaning Brandon (she’s right, but, c’mon, really, sign language?). Well, you were on the right track for a minute there anyway.

They suspect that Brandon, on principle alone, has votes from Frank. That may be the safest bet. Brandon hopes they’re dumb enough to vote like that. They know what the last tiebreaker was, so if it’s questions again, that puts ex-Samburu at an advantage, particularly if they go up against Big Tom, who they suspect is not very bright.

Treemail contains a bow and arrow. Boran hopes that Frank, who’s a hunter, can teach them archery. Each tribe has 5 targets ranging from 30 to 75 feet. The first tribe to light up all the targets with flaming arrows will win. Kelly sits out for Samburu. Kim P and Teresa miss. Lindsey hits the target, but Kim J misses. Ethan and Brandon miss, with Brandon just about hitting himself. Clarence and Lex hit their targets. Frank and Tom miss. After a bunch more misses, Ethan connects to tie it at 2. Lex retakes the lead for Samburu. Ethan reties it. Big Tom retakes the lead for Samburu 4-3. Kim J ties them at 4 each. Next strike wins. Lindsey misses. Brandon misses. Ethan hits the target again to win immunity for Boran.

Prior to tribal council, Kelly overhears a conversation Brandon is having. Now maybe they realize Lindsey has votes, as if the L clue weren’t enough. Lindsey’s pissed. She has herself a new plan. Vote out Brandon. She goes to the other side and tells them she wants to get rid of Brandon. The problem with this is that, if she’s lying to them and they vote Brandon, they’re screwed. The other problem is that Kim P will not vote against Brandon no matter what. Then again, there’s Lindsey, who has not yet made up her mind what she’s going to do.

Because it’s a tie, they will revote, assuming Lindsey sits back down and lets the ceremony conclude. Not that it matters anyway because they aren’t going to change their minds.

In the event of a tie, previous votes count against them. Tom has had 0 previous votes. Lindsey has had 4. She has been voted off the island. Dumb luck that the others overheard Brandon. Would have been more interesting had they continued along their previous poorly planned path.
