So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 Episode 14

Karla and Vitolio were eliminated in So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 Episode 13, and tonight the top 12 will dance. Each couple will dance twice.

Tyce Diorio joins Nigel and Mary.

Melissa Sandvig & Ade Abayomi
Style: Disco
Choreographer: Doriana Sanchez
Song: Move on Up by Destination
Nigel: Incredible start to the evening. Really good strong couple.
Mary: The first time I’ve seen Ade just let it go. Melissa let it go, too.
Tyce: Friggin great.
Number: 1-888-TEMPO-01

Kayla Rodomski & Kupono Aweau
Style: Contemporary
Choreographer: Mia Michaels
Routine: Addiction
Song: Gravity by Sara Bareilles
Nigel: Very powerful piece of choreography. Kayla’s dancing is superb but would like to see her more. Very strong and malevolent from Kupono.
Mary: Kupono was in character from the beginning, and Kayla’s flawless every week. Staying on the train.
Tyce: The best dancers are the best actors. It’s an experience.
Number: 1-888-TEMPO-02

Caitlin Kinney & Jason Glover
Style: Fox Trot
Choreographers: Tony Meredith & Melanie Lapatin
Routine: American style fox trot with a jazzy twist with a macho man chases after the girl.
Song: Minnie the Moocher by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
Nigel: Caitlin made everything look very easy. Jason’s footwork was very good. Huge improvement since earlier.
Mary: Jason looked cool and suave. Caitlin’s kicks are so beautiful and elegant, like she was floating.
Tyce: Could have glided more. Caitlin needed more in her eyes apparently, whatever that means.
Number: 1-888-TEMPO-03

Phillip Chbeeb & Jeanine Mason
Style: Russian Folk Dancing
Choreographers: Youri Nelzine & Lilia Babenko
Song: Kalinka by Barynya
Nigel: We ask you to try anything and everything we throw at you. Just not sure we should have thrown that. Felt like two young kids doing steps. A little too folky. Not enough vodka.
Mary: Jeanine was believable. Phillip was really interesting. Not a difficult routine. At least you’ve got another routine to do later.
Tyce: Did very well at this dance, whatever it was.
Number: 1-888-TEMPO-04

Randi Evans & Evan Kasprzak
Style: Hip Hop
Choreographers: Tabitha & Napoleon Dumo
Routine: A couple just found out they’re going to have a baby.
Song: Halo by Beyonce
Nigel: You to a hip hop feel, not urban, which was good.
Mary: Not a train wreck. Did a great job. Evan didn’t fall down tonight, surprisingly enough. Randi stands out once again.
Tyce: Good, but Evan needs to find more. Randi’s doing great.
Number: 1-888-TEMPO-05

Janette Manrara & Brandon Bryant
Style: Argentine Tango
Choreographers: Miriam Larici & Leonardo Barrionuevo
Song: Libertango from the Forever Tango original Broadway cast album
Nigel: Standing ovation. Mary and Tyce join in. For a ballroom routine, as close to perfection on this stage ever.
Mary: The temperature sure is rising in here. Really outstanding. Brandon’s still not disappointing one ounce. Janette is just flawless. First class tickets on that train.
Tyce: Power couple with so much specifics and attention to detail. Like freshly squeezed orange juice. Or something.
Number: 1-888-TEMPO-06

All the partnerships will be switched up next week, although Nigel is still stuck with Mary.

Melissa Sandvig & Ade Abayomi
Style: Waltz
Choreographer: Ron Montez
Song: A Natural Woman by Mary J Blige
Nigel: Very beautiful. Melissa had beautiful lines. Ade showed strength but lacked rise and fall in his feet.
Mary: Beautiful. Ade’s lifts were effortless, but his waltz moves lacked power. Melissa was flawless again.

Kayla Rodomski & Kupono Aweau
Style: Broadway
Choreographer: Joey Dowling
Routine: Love at first sight.
Song: The Dance at the Gym from the new Broadway cast of West Side Story
Nigel: Just danced. No feeling of true emotion.
Mary: Really good job. Well synchronized.
Tyce: Timeless choreography. Danced very well but did not dig in well enough.

Caitlin Kinney & Jason Glover
Style: Lyrical Jazz
Choreographer: Mandy Moore
Song: Show Me Heaven by Maria McKee
Nigel: Very good work. Technically danced very well, despite a lack of chemistry.
Mary: Quite a bit of chemistry but not magic. Really good but may not be memorable.
Tyce: Timing was good and in sync. However, it was played safe.

Phillip Chbeeb & Jeanine Mason
Style: Jive
Choreographers: Tony Meredith & Melanie Lepatin
Song: Stuff Like That There by Bette Midler
Nigel: This is the best Phillip’s been out of his own style. Jeanine is one of the best top 10 dancers.
Mary: Jeanine will be here next week because she was on fire. Surprised by how well Phillip did. Jeanine’s on the train into the top 10.
Tyce: Call 1-888-fanfriggintastic. Phillip makes up what he lacks in technique with performance. Jeanine is a star.

Randi Evans & Evan Kasprzak
Style: Samba
Choreographers: Pasha Kovalev & Anya Garnis
Song: Ritmo De Bom Bom by Jubaba
Nigel: Evan’s not a hot samba king but is very strong. Randi, however, is hot. Together, not hot enough.
Mary: Not hot, but there was a slow sizzle. Not really dynamic. Half way committed in certain spots. Randi is a hot tamale.
Tyce: Evan needed to act more like a lunatic, or at least that’s what I’m getting from this. Randi carried the piece.

Janette Manrara & Brandon Bryant
Style: Jazz
Choreographer: Wade Robson
Routine: Thieves.
Song: Ruby Blue by Roisin Murphy
Nigel: Nothing they can’t be given that they don’t do brilliantly. Janette’s keeping up with Brandon despite all his training and her background as a salsa dancer. If they don’t get the biggest vote of the night, it will be shocking.
Mary: The best for last. Stole everybody’s heart. Brandon is the champion. Janette delivers every week.
Tyce: So proud and privileged to be watching this.
