So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 Episode 12

Asuka and Jonathan were eliminated on So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 Episode 11, and tonight the top 14 will dance.

Mia Michaels joins Nigel and Mary at the judges’ table. She says that her opinion has changed for the better for a small male dancer with the initials Brandon. Perhaps that means she’s done being hateful for no apparent reason.

Janette Manrara & Brandon Bryant
Style: Cha Cha
Choreographer: Jean Marc & France Genereaux
Song: Hush Hush; Hush Hush by The Pussycat Dolls
Nigel: Possibly the best damn cha cha I have ever seen on this show. Would have graced a world championship stage if this were a professional dance competition. Brandon is the Michaelangelo of the dance floor.
Mary: Janette made that look exciting. Can’t believe Brandon keeps being brilliant every week. Two first class tickets on the hot tamale train.
Mia: Brandon has so much ability and potential that I am not going to be satisfied until it’s fully realized. Janette has been on fire since day one.

Kayla Rodomski & Kupono Aweau
Style: Contemporary
Choreographer: Sonya Tayeh
Theme: a trip to the dark side with a vampire
Song: Eyes on Fire by Blue Foundation
Nigel: Kupono is a new man up there this week. So much technique thrown into a very modern routine. Both of them are reaching their potential.
Mary: Alive and kicking. Kayla’s legs are the most beautiful. An electric feel between the two of them. Staying on the hot tamale train.
Mia: Sonya’s best piece ever on this show. Kayla is amazing. Kupono has applied every note the judges are giving him.

Randi Evans & Evan Kasprzak
Style: Broadway
Choreographer: Joey Dowling
Song: Rich Man’s Frug from Sweet Charity by the 2005 Broadway Revival Cast
Nigel: Disappointed with Evan’s performance, but the pair of them are still within the top 10 dancers.
Mary: Done fairly well. Got the character really well. Enjoyable.
Mia: Need to take that kind of work to the next level because of your height. Randi’s movement was a little heavy. Expect more from Evan.

Caitlin Kinney & Jason Glover
Style: Jazz
Choreographer: Brian Friedman
Theme: An alien that blew up Earth is looking for the last man on the planet.
Song: Creator by Santigold
Nigel: Brian Friedman comes from another planet. Very weird, but they committed themselves 100%.
Mary: Didn’t play to your strengths.
Mia: Danced the fun piece really well. Enjoyable.

Jeanine Mason & Phillip Chbeeb
Style: Hip Hop
Choreographers: Napoleon & Tabitha Dumo
Song: Love Lockdown by Kanye West
Nigel: If you guys keep dancing like that, you should be chained together for life. Jeanine makes it look like every style is her style. This is a great style for Phillip.
Mary: Really brought it on. Jeanine was just crazy good in this routine keeping up with Phillip.
Mia: A little sloppy because of the chain, but great job otherwise.

Melissa Sandvig & Ade Obayomi
Style: Classical Ballet
Choreographer: Thordal Christensen
Theme: Romeo and Juliet love scene
Song: Romeo & Juliet: Prokofiev’s Suite No. 1 Op. 64b 6th Movement by Orchestre De La Suisse Romane & Armin Jordan
Nigel: Beautifully danced. Superb job by Melissa. Ade’s feet could have been better.
Mary: Flawless chemistry. So great to see Melissa in her style. In a dream-like state.
Mia: Excited that was danced as well as it was danced. A fairy tale. Melissa was brilliant. A true ballerina.

Before the final dance, they announce the Dizzy Feet Foundation, which is meant to give underprivileged kids scholarship for dance. The people involved in this show, including many of the choreographers, Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus, Debbie Allen, Paula Abdul, and Katie Holmes are involved.

Karla Garcia & Vitolio Jeune
Style: Quick Step
Choreographers: Jean Marc & France Genereaux
Theme: A museum where Vitolio is a statue
Song: Puttin’ on the Ritz by Rufus Wainwright
Nigel: Very good quick step. Sometimes the lines took away from the style, but entertaining overall.
Mary: So much for the kiss of death dance. Really well done.
Mia: Amazing what a choreographer can do for dancers. He made you. Performed well. Vitolio needs to be more consistent with performances like that. Karla looked scared at times.
