The Bachelorette 5 Episode 1

Jillian Harris was eliminated in third place in The Bachelor 13 Episode 7, sparing her from the drama of the finale. Now it’s her turn to pick from a cast of 30 guys.

John P wants to see what a Canadian hick is. Brian greets Jillian as hot tub Harris. She earlier told Chris she didn’t regret that scene. Pilot Jake has given Jillian (presumably) her first set of wings. David stumbles over his nerves. Tanner looks forward to being 90 and in a rocking chair. Mathue comes up with a cowboy hat, which he’s gotten signed by a lot of country musicians, including Jillian’s favorite Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, which I’m going to assume is a real thing. Simon from England is one of two foreign born candidates. Juan is the other, coming from Buenos Aires. Jillian tells pizza shop owner Greg that she likes pepperoni, green peppers, olives, mushroom, ham, and sometimes anchovies on her pizza.

Jake is the only member of his family who’s not a doctor, instead opting to be a pilot. Jesse is wearing an Aspiring Canadian T-shirt. Tanner says that he’s looking for his best friend, too. Kiptyn admits he’s a ketchup guy. Juan moved to the US when he was 2. He says he works a lot but plays hard as well.

Jillian’s realized she’s going to have some hard decisions to make. I could have told her that.

The first impression rose comes out, and the happy time starts to go south. The guys are starting to get catty.

Bryan and Kyle talk to Jillian at the same time and are a tale of two cities. Kyle’s more of a city guy, while Brian is a fan of pickup trucks and double wide trailers. Jillian says she’s looking for an open honest communicator with a good sense of humor. Wes, a musician, has written a song. At her request, Michael teaches Jillian how to break dance, in a dress. During the lesson, Greg, who goes by his last name Bilbro, challenges Michael to a dance off. David has this theory that he’ll need 17 more chances with Jillian to make up for his first impression.

Chris has a surprise. There aren’t just 25 guys. For the first time, there are 5 more, bringing the total number of bachelors to 30.

The 5 guys who just came in have some time to make up for. As if the face time isn’t limited on the first night as it is, they have even less than usual. Tanner P has one goal. He needs to see Jillian’s feet. He plans to pick his wife based on her feet. Jillian doesn’t seem to realize that he’s a little bit creepy.

Jillian has finally made up her mind to give the first impression rose to David. Saw that one coming. She says it’s based not on his first freezing up but rather their conversation afterward.

With those decisions, 10 guys have been eliminated, all of whom were apparently actually on tonight’s show: Adam, Bryan, Bryce, Caleb, Greg, John H, John P, Josh, Kyle, and Stephen. John P says Jillian seemed like his soulmate. You realize it’s been one night, right? Stephen says that maybe she’s looking for a country guy, or maybe she just doesn’t like awesome guys. John H thought they connected pretty good.
