Now that Michael Sarver was sent packing in American Idol 8 Episode 24, we’re down to the top 9.
Tonight’s theme is popular downloads in iTunes. Apparently that’s supposed to be a theme anyway.
Anoop Desai
Song: My Way by Usher
Randy: Vocals were really good considering it wasn’t the right song for you.
Kara: Kinda just played it safe and did what Usher did. Feeling like a bunch of frat guys dared you to sing that.
Paula: Loved the return to the playful side.
Simon: Complete and utter mess.

Megan Joy Corkrey
Song: Turn Your Lights Down Low by Lauryn Hill/Bob Marley
Kara: I really like you, but I think you’re in trouble. Just not the song choice for you. Was getting irritating.
Paula: Need to be singing a sensitive ballad.
Simon: Boring. Indulgent. Monotonous. Nobody’s going to like that song.
Randy: Like watching paint dry. Took forever.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-02
Danny Gokey
Song: What Hurts the Most by Rascal Flatts
Paula: This is where you thrive.
Simon: Your best performance.
Randy: Very nice but keep it moving.
Kara: Moved everyone emotionally. Had some goose bumps.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-03
Allison Iraheta
Song: Don’t Speak by No Doubt (playing guitar)
Randy: A little a head of the beat, kinda cool playing the guitar. Mostly did not get the outfit.
Kara: Outfit was a little distracting. You don’t have to try to be that. You just are. Not your best performance but good.
Paula: Axe added a certain edge. Masterful and effortless.
Simon: Like a slightly precocious daughter trying to dress like and sound like a rock star. Plus you shouted the song.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-04
Scott MacIntyre
Song: Just the Way You Are by Billy Joel
Kara: I think you made some very smart decisions by picking that song. Moving, honest performance.
Paula: Took a big risk without including the orchestra, but it paid off.
Simon: Your best performance by a country mile. It’s a different Scott. Very lucky you didn’t listen to Paula’s advice about not playing the piano.
Randy: One of the best of the night.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-05
Matt Giraud
Song: You Found Me by The Fray (playing keyboard in the audience)
Paula: Appreciate that you went with the contemporary song, but you aborted the things we love about you. More like a sound alike.
Simon: Didn’t get it at all. Somebody trying to be somebody else again. Very uptight. Not a good commercial song. Just uncomfortable.
Randy: Wrong song for you. Not a rock kind of singer.
Kara: At some point, you’re going to have to commit. Rock side of pop or R&B side of pop?
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-06
Lil Rounds
Song: I Surrender by Celine Dion
Randy: Would not have been my song choice for you, but you sang it really well.
Kara: Surprised, too. Got a glimpse of a singer who can just let it out and wow us.
Paula: Don’t want to see an adult contemporary Lil Rounds. Want to see the joy.
Simon: Safe song. Similar to a wedding performance.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-07
Adam Lambert
Song: Play That Funky Music by Wild Cherries
Paula: True genius does not fulfill expectations. True genius shatters it.
Simon: Very brave, but at least the karaoke nonsense has been gotten rid of. Won’t make you as popular as last week, though.
Randy: In the star zone.
Kara: Can’t wait to see what you are going to do next.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-08
Kris Allen
Song: Ain’t No Sunshine by Bill Withers (playing piano)
Randy: So in the zone. One of the best performances. So creative. So cool.
Kara: That is artistry.
Paula: Could be a first cut from your album. Your best performance to date.
Simon: You brought confidence tonight. Very good, cool arrangement of the song. Your best performance so far.
Number: 1-866-IDOLS-09
