Billy Dodson is trying to prove it ain’t over until the fat lady sings. She’s singing alright. Just not well. Sharon wants him to sing like a man.
Alexandra Pyles’ introduction makes me think she’ll be driving a monster truck or something. Instead, she proceeds to kick the crap out of her father. Now that’s entertainment. Piers likes her but doesn’t believe she can win. He says no, but Hasselhoff says yes. After hearing that she plans to beat up more people than just her father, Sharon lets her through as well. (Video of Alex Pyles’ performance)
Sarah Lenore has been singing since she was 4 years old and recently moved to Nashville to pursue her dream. She sings Carrie Underwood’s Before He Cheats while playing guitar. Piers thinks she has a very good voice. Sharon’s concerned that there are a lot of young blonde girls that sing and play guitar, but she’s got a great future. Hasselhoff believes she’s got great raw talent. (Video of Sarah Lenore’s performance)
Family group SQ Entertainment (a group of about a dozen cousins) dances their way to Vegas.
The James Gang had a rough start in life but are hoping to reverse their fortunes with a singing and dancing act that mixes the old with the new. They’re good, although I’m not real sure who this act is intended to appeal to. The Hoff believes they’re a great representation of what New York’s about. Sharon and Piers also let them through.
Victoria Jacoby was adopted from China when she was about 6 months old. She’s a contortionist. She definitely works the cute little girl angle (albeit inadvertently), but she’s got the talent to support it.
Matt and his wife Elaine Bonowitz (Polka Today) tell us that they’re the number one polka dancers and that we’ll enjoy polka dancing. For real. They get buzzed by all three judges at the same time. Sharon calls them silly. Piers believes it’s really Polka 50 years ago.
Kyle Rifkin from Harlem had to raise his brothers and sisters after his mother left because she was being abused. He’s now been reunited with his mother and hopes to make her proud. He sings Ain’t Too Proud to Beg, quickly getting the audience on their feet. Hoff says he’s what this show is about. Piers feels like he’s watching the heart of America performing.
