America’s Got Talent Season 6 Episode 28

Posted by Shane on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 8:49 pm

The last of the semifinalists performed in America’s Got Talent Season 6 Episode 27, and tonight 5 more will round out the top 10.

Gymkana, Steven Retchless, and Silhouettes are up first. Obviously, Silhouettes is advancing, though they’re going to have to step it up if they want the title.

Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. and Anna Graceman are next. I assume they’re both advancing, and in spite of Nick’s lame attempt to fake everybody out, they are.

Professor Splash, Fatally Unique, Summerwind Skippers, and Landon Swank are the next group. I’ll have to go with Landon of this lot, and he is the next one to enter the semi-semifinals.

That brings us down to Smage Bros. Riding Shows, Kinetic King, and Snap Boogie. The act eliminated is Kinetic King. Sharon votes for Snap Boogie. Piers votes for Smage Bros. Howie also votes for Smage.

Big Brother 13 Episode 24

Posted by Shane on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 7:52 pm

After Porsche opened Pandora’s box in Big Brother 13 Episode 23, the duo twist returned for one week.

Porsche admits to receiving money for opening the box, but she doesn’t tell anybody that Kalia has money, too.

Nominations
Kalia is safe by default.
Adam and Shelly are safe.

Rachel and Jordan have been nominated for eviction. Because they didn’t talk to Porsche about the nominations, or so we’re told. So Jordan goes upstairs to talk, and they’re not happy. Their plan is to get rid of the floaters instead. Porsche’s interpretation is that this deal stands regardless of who wins veto.

With her shouting out of her system last week, Jordan won’t say anything to Shelly any more.

With only six players left in the game, this week is the first time that everybody gets to participate in the veto.

A bunch of dummies are out in the backyard, the evicted houseguests. They have to hop on their former partners and stay on the longest. Thinking back to the very first competition with the bananas, it would seem this is Rachel’s to win. On the other hand, Shelly and Jordan were the first ones out of that. Adam’s the first to fall after 4 minutes. Jordan drops after 8 minutes. Shelly’s out at 12 minutes. Porsche lasts 18 minutes. Kalia’s not happy because her alliance (including herself) can’t ever do anything. After 32 minutes, Kalia falls, and Rachel wins the power of veto.

This is my favorite rigging of this show ever.

Now that she’s in danger of leaving, Shelly wants to speak with Jordan alone for a few minutes. Jordan says she forgives but does not forget.

As if they’re going to trust her, Shelly offers to be in an alliance with Jordan and Rachel again. Of course, they couldn’t trust Adam either, although he’s somewhat more useful in competitions. She says she won’t beat them anyway, and if a competition comes down to them, she’ll quit. That would be a great offer if she had a chance of winning anything or if she were at all trustworthy.

Rachel removes herself and Jordan from the block, and by default, Adam and Shelly have been nominated.

America’s Got Talent Season 6 Episode 27

Posted by Shane on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 8:46 pm

Team iLuminate, Poplyfe, Lys Agnes, Miami All Stars, and West Springfield Dance Team were the first groups to advance in America’s Got Talent Season 6 Episode 26. Tonight the next half of the semifinalists perform.

The Kinetic King returns again for more domino fun. Piers calls him his favorite act, although he didn’t find tonight as explosive as last time.

Fatally Unique is the first dance act of the night. Dance party in an insane asylum? Well. I guess that qualifies as unique. Sharon likes their breathtaking speed. Howie wonders whether they’re fatally unique enough. Piers thinks they’re one step closer to winning.

Landon Swank won the magic showdown. His new illusion for tonight is a real life version of Russian roulette. Piers, Sharon, and Howie each pick a button, leaving one untouched. Landon’s in one of the boxes rigged with explosives. They blow up all but box 2, which Landon’s in. Far more slick than the similar act we saw in Vegas from Frank Miles.

Gymkana return for some more gymnastics/dance. Piers buzzes, and it’s clear what he’s going to say: too repetitive. Eventually, the act comes crashing down in flames, literally, as one of them hits the flaming hoop and knocks it down.

Summerwind Skippers are quite good at jumping rope, but I’m not sure how far this can go without a big twist. The big mistake at the end gets a buzz from Piers. Howie’s been won over, though.

Snap Boogie continues his street dancing to support his family. Howie loved it. But Piers didn’t. It was a weird start, followed by cheesiness. Sharon didn’t like the other dancers, but she does like Snap.

Singer Anna Graceman performs Home Sweet Home by Carrie Underwood. She gets the whole building on their feet. Don’t know. I thought her earlier performances were better.

Steven Retchless learned to pole dance on the Internet. Where else? Piers buzzes. To be fair, Piers never liked this, but the music and the additional dancers aren’t helping. Sharon felt that was fantastic, though. Howie’s somewhere in the middle.

Smage Bros. return with their one dumb friend who’s probably had his head squashed a few times, and this time they’ve brought the rest of the family. Piers thought that was incredible. Howie’s word is amazing.

Professor Splash is diving (not just a belly flop) from 70 feet into an 8 foot flaming diving tank. In the event you have a way to dive into a pool of fire from a height of 70 feet, don’t try this at home. The judges aren’t sure that was as impressive as the shallow diving.

Old school singer Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. sings some Sinatra. Sharon and Howie have glowing comments, but Piers doesn’t think that was his best performance.

Silhouettes are the last dancers of the night. Still very good, but they’re going to have trouble topping their quarterfinal routine.

Big Brother 13 Episode 23

Posted by Shane on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 7:00 pm

A double eviction night in Big Brother 13 Episode 22 brought us the eliminations of Daniele and Jeff.

Flashback to Thursday morning because we didn’t have time to catch all the drama in the busy show. Jeff denies throwing the competition that got Brendon sent home (not that he was alone in that), which Rachel heard from Shelly. Eventually, Jeff calls Shelly out for playing in the middle. He’s finally sick of what’s been going on all summer. Barging into the room, Shelly puts her foot in her mouth, revealing the plan to keep Daniele. She tries to blame Adam, but nobody’s stupid enough to believe this.

Shelly burned the bridge to her alliance, which has her worried, but ultimately I can’t see how she’s in much danger. She’s a strategic disaster who can’t win any challenge of any kind. Her only value is that of a vote, which makes her a good person to take to final two.

Jordan’s as disgusted as I am with what the house has become, a bunch of people who have slept through the summer dumb lucking their way to the end. Add in the sting of betrayal, and you’ve got one angry Jordan.

They walk out into the back and see a bunch of snakes. The HOH competition is to move a ball across a snake. Jordan scores 18, Porsche scores 11, Rachel scores 13, Shelly gets 16, and Adam gets 4. This determines the rankings, matching Porsche against Adam. Adam performs poorly again with a 10, and Porsche beats him to move on to the next round against Rachel with a 14. Porsche scores a 20, the second best score possible, eliminating Rachel who scores a 7. Having had the most opportunities to practice pays off, and Porsche scores snake eyes, eliminating Shelly after her score of 15. In the final round, Porsche gets snake eyes again, beating Jordan’s score of 16.

In this competition, something interesting happens. Porsche tells us it’s newbies against veterans. I haven’t seen those battle lines since about week four when Daniele started plotting her demise.

Now that Porsche has won HOH, Adam flips back to the newbies.

Porsche gets Pandora’s box and is shown a picture of champagne and $10,000. She opens the door, and the next card tells her she’s won the money, which she will split with another houseguest. She says the word shocker as she reads this, a word that has now lost all meaning. The next card tells her that she’s unleashed the duo twist on the house for one week, and all of the original duo rules apply. Duos will be nominated as a pair, and they will be removed from the block as a pair if the veto is used. Porsche picks Kalia, who is now safe for the week. Rachel picks Jordan. That leaves Adam and Shelly.

If Jordan or Rachel win the veto, the other one is safe, too, which is great news for them because otherwise one of them was going home for sure, so at least this way they have a fighting chance. Meanwhile, Shelly, who otherwise made herself safe by stabbing Jeff and Jordan in the back, is now in danger of nomination in that scenario. The worse news for her is that Jordan and Rachel would then control the vote, making revenge very easy to seek.

Big Brother 13 Episode 22

Posted by Shane on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 7:56 pm

Jeff won the power of veto in Big Brother 13 Episode 21 and used it to remove Porsche from the block and nominate Daniele against Kalia, the most satisfying outcome of the season since ED’s elimination in episode 2.

Daniele needs 3 votes to remain in the house. She’s not bothering with Jordan and Rachel. With the assumption that Porsche will keep her, that leaves her with only two options, Shelly and Adam.

Her pitch to Shelly is that she will not nominate her ever, on her grandmother’s life. Reality TV translation: I will nominate you. Then again, it would make sense to drag Shelly along because it’s not as if anybody would vote for her.

Shelly approaches Adam telling him they can’t beat Jeff and Jordan. Adam doesn’t know if he can trust Daniele, nor has she provided any reason to convince him she’d flip from her ally Porsche to him and Shelly. Oh boy. I can’t wait for this conversation to blow up in Shelly’s face, for her to get amnesia again, and for her to whine and complain about it for weeks and decide she hates Adam’s guts like she hates Rachel.

Believing she won’t be able to convince Adam, Shelly now approaches Rachel instead. This should end well. She tells her that Jeff threw the Cornhole game. That’s the game that sent Brendon home. Shelly acts surprised. Oh, was it? Rachel’s willing to humor this idea because it keeps Jeff and Daniele at war. Let’s be real here, though. Jeff may have been one of the people who helped in Brendon’s exit, but Daniele was the one who nominated him. Twice.

Daniele’s speech is about how she loves and respects the game and is the only person in the house who does. I see. Apparently she’s being kicked out tonight, having failed in her attempt to resurrect her really bad gameplay.

Votes
Jordan: Daniele
Porsche: Kalia
Shelly: Kalia
Rachel: Daniele
Adam: Daniele

By a vote of 3-2, Daniele has been evicted from the Big Brother house. It’s nice to see Shelly finally pick a side after lying badly all summer. In Rachel’s goodbye message, she tells her she could care less about her stupid jury vote and calls her a horrible bitch. Wow.

The HOH competition is before or after, based on a series of questions about the events of this summer. Everybody gets the first question right. Adam is out on the second question. Porsche, Rachel, and Shelly are out on the hit or miss question regarding Dominic’s elimination speech. Jordan is out, and Kalia wins HOH, which I take it she’ll use to bolster her claim that she’s done something this season (she hasn’t).

In this live nomination, Jeff and Rachel have been nominated for eviction. Jordan’s the biggest threat in the house if you ask me, though nobody seems to realize it.

Porsche, Shelly, and Adam join Kalia, Jeff, and Rachel in the veto competition. The challenge is to find two yellow clown shoes from a ball pit. I see they’ve dumbed this one down for the sake of fitting it into a couple of minutes. Rachel finds the first shoe. Shelly, Porsche, and Adam are behind her. Then Jeff. Porsche finds her second shoe and wins the power of veto.

The veto is not used. Jeff asks Shelly to rejoin him. I guess he has no choice, but Shelly’s the worst ally ever. She can’t be trusted, can’t strategize, and can’t win anything.

Votes
Jordan: Rachel
Porsche: Jeff
Adam: Rachel
Shelly: Jeff

We have a tie, which the HOH must break. Kalia votes to evict Jeff.

A rollercoaster of a night. The evil player gets struck down, followed by the good player. Either way, at least they both played the game, unlike most of the people left in the house.

America’s Got Talent Season 6 Episode 26

Posted by Shane on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 8:06 pm

America’s Got Talent Season 6 Episode 25 brought us the first of the semifinal acts. Tonight 5 acts will advance as the top 10 starts to take shape.

Apparently Demi Lovato is out of rehab and back to performing, even if she has been kicked off the horrible sketch comedy So Random.

Sandou Trio Russian Bar, Zuma Zuma, Matt Wilhelm, and Team iLuminate are up first. Before last night, I would have been stunned if Sandou got eliminated, but they just threw it away. Team iLuminate, meanwhile, are among the frontrunners. That said, these are all very strong acts. Team iLuminate is the group advancing to the top 10.

Poplyfe goes up against Lys Agnes. Nick tells us this is the closest result ever on this show. Really? Both acts advance.

Melissa Villasenor, Miami All Stars, and Kevin Colis are next. Well, I guess Miami All Stars is the right one to advance here.

Beth Ann Robinson, Daniel Joseph Baker, and West Springfield Dance Team are the final three acts competing for the last remaining spot of the night. Beth Ann Robinson has been eliminated. Howie votes for West Springfield Dance. Piers does, too, sending West Springfield Dance Team to the next round.

Big Brother 13 Episode 21

Posted by Shane on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 6:58 pm

Jeff’s HOH win in Big Brother 13 Episode 20 led to the nomination of Porsche and Kalia.

Invisible Porsche thinks she’s the bigger threat. Slightly less invisible Kalia thinks she’s the bigger threat. Memo to both of you: you both suck.

Jeff and Adam discuss how people who do nothing (like Adam) aren’t going to get to the end by continuing to do that. If you don’t want to win competitions, I have no problem with that, as long as you can at least strategize or make a good faith effort even if you’re a trainwreck (like Daniele)

Daniele’s growing hatred for Rachel is hilarious. Rachel doesn’t have to even try to get Daniele to throw a fit any more.

Jeff, Kalia, and Porsche are joined in the veto competition by veto ticket holder Daniele, plus Jordan, Adam, and Shelly (Kalia’s choice). Daniele’s happy Rachel is sitting out. Jeff is not happy his useless ally Shelly is playing.

Jordan and Jeff sit in the HOH room watching the TV monitor. On it are Daniele and her shadow Porsche. Now would be a good time to start mocking people, followed by confusion over how to pronounce the word mischievous (you’re both right).

Zingbot 3000 is back. Jeff is told to take his facial hair back to the decade it came from. Porsche is told she should be named after a car with a roomier trunk. Rachel is told about how all she ever says is the f word, fiance. Daniele is asked whether she owns a car or if she just rides her daddy’s coattails. Let’s be fair. Her dad sucked worse than she does. Adam is called Uncle Fester, Shelly a dude, and Kalia an expert sleeper. Jordan’s told Jeff hasn’t proposed yet because she’s terrible at answering questions, a statement that confuses her.

There’s actually a point to all of this. The veto competition is to build the Zingbot a bride. Jeff is pretty sure Kalia and Porsche are taking a nap. They are. Meanwhile, Shelly and Adam don’t want to win this, not that they could anyway. Jordan realizes she’s terrible at puzzles, so she zings herself. Jeff really has no competition here and wins the power of veto.

Shelly still hasn’t learned her lesson, even if her 8 year old daughter has. She wants Kalia to know she’s still on her side.

Porsche tries to talk strategy with Jeff. Eventually, he decides on a deal of a week of safety, which she accepts.

Kalia says she doesn’t want to leave before somebody who has done nothing. Jeff says that this week will result in them being even.

Daniele wants Porsche gone and a final four or final three deal. After she destroyed her game early on, her fallback plan, an alliance with Kalia, depends on something new.

At the veto ceremony, Jeff decides to remove Porsche from the block. In her place goes Daniele.

Daniele promises revenge on Jeff. Her and what army? Remember last week when you said Jeff wasn’t your target and needs to get over himself? It’s a little late to be making him one now.

Meanwhile, Kalia realizes that her odds just improved, even if she’s left with nobody.

Coach, Ozzy Return in Survivor: South Pacific

Posted by Shane on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 5:25 pm

Last season, Rob and Russell returned. Though Russell was eliminated early, Boston Rob finally won the million dollars. Both are among the best players the game has ever seen, even if Russell is so unlikeable he could never win.

For Survivor: South Pacific, we get… Ozzy and Coach? Really? 22 seasons, and that’s the best you can do?

Oscar “Ozzy” Lusth made a good run in Survivor: Cook Islands before throwing the game away and losing to Yul. His second appearance in Survivor: Micronesia ended with a 9th place finish after he was outsmarted by an awesome group of women.

Benjamin “Coach” Wade never had a shot in either season. In Survivor: Tocantins, he placed 5th. His second attempt was less convincing, as he finished in 12th place as the first member of the jury in Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains.
